  • Today, we’re in the beautiful state of Michoacan visiting a Monarch butterfly sanctuary. It’s an amazing thing to experience and we’re super excited to share it with you. We have lots of great tips and important things to know if this is something you’d like to experience, and I hope you do because we haven’t even seen the butterflies yet and we’re already in love with this magical town.
    We rented a car and drove from Queretaro to Angangueo, Michoacan stopping to stretch our legs in Tlalpujahua, a pueblo magico known for its incredible handmade Christmas ornaments. It was a lovely town and we definitely want to come back in December to see it in full Christmas mode.
    FYI if you prefer not to drive, they do sell tours to the butterfly reserves that leave out of Mexico City, Queretaro and Morelia.
    📍Angangueo, Michoacán
    Angangueo is a pueblo magico in the mountains of Michoacan, 8,460 ft above sea level. That’s about 1,000 feet higher than Mexico City. This is where we recommend booking your stay, at least 1 or 2 nights so you can enjoy the town as well as the butterfly reserves.

    🦋🦋Years ago I had a part-time job and got off of work at 1 p.m. Driving home one day there were Monarchs flying down the road I was driving, they seemed to be everywhere, it was breathtaking. I can only imagine what it is like where you were! It's bad enough that Kevin's story got me emotional, but the sculpture at the end had me in tears. Angangueo is truly magical for more than one reason, thank you for sharing this emotionally wonderful experience! 🦋🦋

Y gracias por establecer el paralelo entre la migración de las mariposas y nuestra migración a Córdoba desde el hermoso oeste de Colorado. We visited the butterflies in Sierra Chincua last month. It truly was a spiritual and memorable experience. The te de Monte was my BFF. Thank God we picked up the travel guide on the fork of the road where you go one way towards the Sierra Chincua and the other towards “El Rosario”. Driving through those mountains was no joke and we lost reception along the way! Great video 🦋 🦋 🦋

    • @EatBailaTravel
      @EatBailaTravel  3 месяца назад

      That was the other sanctuary we thought about going to! How was that hike? I bought a big bunch of the de monte to take home it’s delicious.

      The hike was very rustic (dirt road) and had two scenic spots along the way. Rode the horses on the way down so we can ride to one of the scenic routes. Both were amazing as they were the perfect outlook of the mountains.

  • @karenga11
    @karenga11 3 месяца назад +1

    Awww you guys…besides the horses, pobrecitos….this video made me tear up…the butterflies, the flags, the sculpture de la “frontera”, families separated, immigrants….thank you! 🇲🇽
    Being an immigrant myself, my parents moved us to the US when I was 13. I’m only a DACA recipient and had never been able to go back to Mexico in almost 28 years until last summer when I was granted an Advance Parole to be able to go see my last grandparent I had left 😭, then he passed last January.
    In about 3 years, after having lived in the States for about 31 years, my husband, my girls and I are planning on moving to México. I am done with the unfairness we are treated here. I’m grateful for everything this country has given me, although, nothing has been “free or gifted”, I’m just ready to go back to my country where I will no longer feel like an outsider, like an “alien” as we are called here (and many foreigners in Mexico call themselves Expats? They are immigrants too!). I will be in my homeland, my heart belongs there. 💚🤍❤️
    Gracias por este video que provocó tantas emociones en mi. Saludos chicos!

      @EatBailaTravel  3 месяца назад +2

      🥺the immigrant life is NOT easy when it comes to situations like yours, which we’re super familiar with. I’m glad you got to see your grandparent one last time 🕊️
      The American dream they sold our parents decades ago is not the same today. Being able to choose your home is a privilege and I hope the move brings you quality of life ❤️ have you decided where in Mexico you’ll be moving to?

    • @karenga11
      @karenga11 3 месяца назад +1

      @@EatBailaTravel Yes, the American dream is definitely not the same today and having had the opportunity to go back to Mexico last summer gave me the reassurance to want to move back 100%. We still don't know where, a lot depends on the job my husband gets with his recent PhD, in fact, before you stopped working for UNAM, my husband had sent you a message through Linkedin to ask you some questions....If I am able to get another Advance Parole, I will go back again this summer and I want to go to Yucatán...I've heard it's very pretty there pero no sé si el calor lo pueda soportar! lol.....We have thought about Querétaro as well but we don't know for sure......I love watching your videos because I feel like they give me more of a feeling of México and the different places you've been to give me more of an idea. Last summer I was there for two months and traveled through 11 different states.....we have also considered Puebla.....we will see....meanwhile, we continue planning, saving and waiting, which is the hardest part for me.......vamos a ver.....saludos chicos!

    Kevin and Jenny, Thank you for creating this video! I grew up against the San Bernardino mtns, where I discovered a small rock-creek canyon. I was drawn there often for its beauty and during one of my visits there, I encountered an area covered in Monarch Butterflies! Now I realize that they must have been only one of the several generations enroute to one of their homes in Mexico. They know no borders! In a cosmic way, via these creatures, and many years, we again have made a form of contact! Happy trails, Kevin and Jenny!

    The park appears to be at about 10,000 ft high elevation. Last year I was i Peru doing inca tourist site and stayed in Cuco..11,200 feet above sea level! I was feeling sick the whole week except the day we went to Machu Picchu which is actually below 9,000 ft.
    Jenny mentioned some high altitude leaf? I’m Peru they have coca…yes, the leaf that gets turned into that stuff. It actually works though just temporarily and reduces some high altitude symptoms, doesn’t eliminate it.
    The high altitude made me feel tired all the time, ran out of breath just walking, and felt like there was a pressure on my chess that wouldn’t go away

      Yes! The same happened to us when we visited Cuzco and Machu pichuu. Kevin actually ended up very sick and in the hospital during that trip.
      Did you enjoy your visit to Peru?

      @Homer-OJ-Simpson 2 месяца назад

      @@EatBailaTravel I absolutely LOVED Peru. I almost passed out from the altitude! We had TWO of the 6 people in our group get sick. One bad enough she missed a whole day of activities and the other (happened to be her sis) had to cut her Machu Pichuu day short...sad that she only spent 50% of the time there that she wanted and probably didn't enjoy it much with her upset stomach.
      Machu PIchuu (the whole park & mountains not just the settlement) is high on my list of most beautiful things I've seen. Lima was a boring city though had a nice neighborhood that was lively but it was just one area. Cuzco had the inca charm! The old spanish colonial look. Loved t.

    Many of those butterflies will end up here in my Part of Canada very soon but sadly its crazy you post this video when you did. 2 days ago the Canadian government bowed to US pressure and now require Mexicans to have a Temporary Resident Visa to enter the country. Just another way the US can track people if they cross the Northern boarder illegally.
    Canada has not required Mexicans to enter the country with a visa since 2016 and there have been little to no issues. The number of Mexicans trying to cross to the US after coming to Canada is so small this will cost all 3 countries more than its worth.
    Just be kind to each other and enjoy what everyone brings to the table.
