If you remove the sprockets off any freewheel and then clamp the remaining freewheel body in a vice, you can crush the outside plate to the inside plate so it locks. then you can just turn the wheel and it will unscrew. Have done this on hundreds of different brand free wheels in my shop amd works every time. Just make sure you don’t clamp too hard and damage the receiving threads on the wheel.
You are my savior! I was starting to disbelieve in myself, because I could not get the cassette off. Your method works! I broke my table, it couldn't handle the force I had to put into my vice. But who cares. My Radwagon drives I don't need to walk my kinds to the kindergarten.
So I'm giving on up trying to get the old freewheel off since I already have a new motor/freewheel. I had tried cutting a slot a in a spline tool and the screwdriver trick and also had RadPower send me their proprietary tool for free. I soaked it in PB Blaster and it sat for a couple days but no luck. I was just going to move but I ran into the same issue at the end of the video and it looks like I need some sort of spacer. Were you able to find the correct spacer?
Man, why aren't you located close to where I live, I could do with some live help to fix this same issue and no workshop wants to touch my freewheel :(
i am trying to do this very thing, except the wheel i have has the cable on the disc side (phew). however, the whole mechanism rotates when i try to unscrew it with my park tool (and just spins under load as well). ever experienced that?
Ok, so I just picked up a Lectric xPremium. Same exact set up. I'm looking to go to a 34 tooth low gear (comes with 32). The cassette part of this thing does come apart as seen in the video. However, it is two different diameters. I need this 34 to fit the large end. Does anyone know where to find a sprocket with this unique sized inner spline diameter?
I thought Park Tool had a splined tool with a removable spline to fit that. Also Bolton bikes makes a thin wall tool that fits over the nut on the wire. Anyway, you got it done..
Fyi, AFTER we ALL had the same problem...Rad figured it out. They send you a PDF with some instructions to "jam a screwdriver" between the removal piece and the axle, to hold it from moving. Then gently apply pressure and HOLD the pressure until the freewheel releases. Also suggest using lots of penetrating oil as the freewheels tend to seize onto the hub when not properly installed with lubricant. My local bike shop couldn't even get the freewheel off... I still still sit with a broken freewheel with no top gear.
Talk about unnecessarily complicated hey? Yeesh. I want to find a way to make a 3 speed fit on a rad runner 1 (1 speed), but oh boy, I'm hoping it's not this complicated.
Hi I want to change the 1 speed’s cassette gear to put a 7 speed cassette . It’s a rad runner. 1 speed
Rad shipped me the proper tool free of charge! They are top notch when it comes to support!
I've emailed them and they said they do not provide such tools?
What did you say. I need to remove the back wheel to replace the tire/thread. etc.
Where are you located? In Canada they want 15$
@@raczyk You can do that without the tool. The tool is for removing cassette and rear motor.

Also interested in a 34T sprocket for my XPremium. 👍
Hey I'm all for improvising Too got to try something
Absolutely, just keep trying, that's our motto!

You are correct. Bolton bikes made a tool specifically for this purpose!
Tower e bikes, thanks for the video.
that tool is available on bolton bikes! to remove the freewheel
I bought the tool from Rad. The slot compromised the tool’s integrity to the point that it would not grab.

In theory you could slice the tool in half using a dremel tool

Unnecessary you got that right! Adding a 3 speed could be a fun project, but certainly will prove time consuming.
@@TowerEBikes I think I've found a freewheel that will fit... Will keep you posted!
@@YouMotorcycle Will keep you posted!????
Awwwww sheeeeeeeit 🤣🤣🤣
Pretty much
