Never been a Pistons fan but boy did I love me some 04 Pistons. And it all started with Chauncey. Such an unbelievably underrated and classy leader on and off the court. I'll always have much love for him
Yessss Joe Dumars sank Detroits boat entirely trading away the captain the leader the MVP of the finals not the season no no THE FINALS!Since that season detroit sadly died
A legacy sealed and untainted. After I heard about his retirement and now to this again, can't help but to shed a tear. He really brought the game for detroit. Long live Chauncey.
I still have the Sports section from the Detroit News the day after 2004's Game 5 was played. I break it out whenever I want some serious nostalgia. :)
i think every piston fan got choked up that night......i honestly think this was more emotional than hearing he actually got traded!!! 2nd greatest piston pg ever.....sorry Mr. Bing...
I was there & sitting up close at this game, I could tell Chauncey had held in alot of emotions during that intro & I know it took alot out of him not to shred a tear.
Its good to see the Detroit fans have so much respect for a friend. When we played bball when we was kids. We knew then he was going to be good and this was at smith elementary school. What even more crazy is thay we use to play this game in the gym called Detroit...
Man I was there that day, all the wayyyy at the top as usual during those pistons days. About 6-8 years old, 24 now. I'll never forget tho how connected everybody was and how dope the moment was. Chauncey was the last to come out and they brought out the fire again, I can feel it on my face every time. Then the announcer guy goes "Chaunceyyyy... B-B-B-B-Billups." Crazy I had no idea the moment I was in at the time. Crowd used to be so packed every seat was filled. Crazy atmosphere so glad I got to experience especially since Detroit ain't been the same since at all. They can't even fill up the little Caesars arena. I can't believe I never looked this up before to relive it lol but I'm here now leggo
@@seanwalters1977 We r slowly climbing out of that coffin today. But yeah we would’ve remained winning somewhere around 54 or 55 games for about 2-3 more years and competed in the finals in either 09 or in 2010, still would go like 57-25 in 11’ but lose in conference finals or semi finals cuz we were running out of stamina. Sheed, Prince, and Hamilton were getting older and older while Affalo and Stuckey were good but not superstars
@@Imadawg213 you're absolutely wrong after Chauncey Billups left we didn't compete at all we went to the playoffs and got swept and didn't get back to the playoffs until 2016
@@ki11atj49 I’m saying what would’ve happened if it wasn’t for the Chauncey trade. They would’ve had 2 more years of being the best team or 2nd best in the east and then they would prolly start declining in 2011
He'll forever be one of the greatest losses/trade blunder to the Pistons/Detroit family. We'll miss him and as a Metro Detroiter I'll always be a Billups fan.
The thing is that he never wanted to leave in the first place. He wanted to stay with the Pistons and finish his career with them. He told Dumars before he was traded that if he really had to go, he would like to go back to Denver and play for his hometown. Once the Pistons got rid of him, that was officially the end of the Goin’ To Work Pistons. Only Rip, Tayshaun, and Sheed remained from that 2004 championship team. They were still a hell of a team despite the way things ended.
The best PG in the world from 2000 to 2009. Top 5 PG ever. Had as much balance as any PG to play the game. Offense, defense, passing, shooting, handles and post game. Thank you Chauncey BBBBillups!
No because we respect Chauncey for what he's done for the Pistons organization and the fact that we had winning seasons every years after the 2004 finals and we appreciate all he's done....so If he decided to do a "decision" type thing we wouldn't hate him like those ungrateful Cleveland fans.
Yes, but he brought success and glory to Cleveland for 7 years!!! Division chams, Conference cham, Reg season champ... Clevelend became great team when Lebron arrived. And fans forgot all that great stuff. But ok, Miami will always love and respect their 2 times NBA finals MVP! :D
those players were in the nba for a reason. wished i had that much talent so i could host a show and not tell my team i'm not interested in staying with them and screwing them over for several years to come
Why are people comparing Chauncey's return to LeBron's? Chauncey never wanted to leave, he was traded. LeBron just bailed on Cleveland and sold them out on national television. The fans had every right to boo him when he came back. Comparing the way both of them left their teams is stupid because it's two completely different scenarios. Get a clue, people.
When Billups left, it was strictly business. When LeBron left, he just took off. Whether or not he brought relevance to Cleveland basketball, he deserved what he got.
This will always be known as the greatest introduction in Detroit history and in league history, mason is amazing
FACTS
JMason goes hard. That was a class act in introducing Chauncey that way.
That's that kind of Detroit love that other teams will never get! Once you are a Piston, you are always a Piston!
Never been a Pistons fan but boy did I love me some 04 Pistons. And it all started with Chauncey. Such an unbelievably underrated and classy leader on and off the court. I'll always have much love for him
Nope...
This started with Ben...
Till this day remains the WORST trade in Pistons history. One trade, and the pistons have been terrible for 9 straight years. Wow.
Yep, I love AI but that move proved to be absolutely awful.
How is AD for Aguirre a bad trade? It was the final piece they needed to win 2 championships.
Yessss Joe Dumars sank Detroits boat entirely trading away the captain the leader the MVP of the finals not the season no no THE FINALS!Since that season detroit sadly died
100% agree! All downhill from that point forward.
Update; been downhill for 12 years now
Although he never brought a title to Denver,
Chauncey is a hero in Colorado. Class act.
So glad he is on Espn
Chauncey will always be one of the most under appreciated players ever
The official day the Pistons titanic sank!
Edward Richardson The Billups-Iverson fatal trade. Idk what Dumars was thinking!!! Was Billups in his final year of his contact???
So true
Chuck Daley passed away and Dumars started making stupid decisions.
I wish Allen Iverson stayed with the Denver Nuggets and Chauncey Billups stayed with the Detroit Pistons I didn't not like the trade.
@Jay-rd6ry Yeah, dumas was dumb as hell
A legacy sealed and untainted. After I heard about his retirement and now to this again, can't help but to shed a tear. He really brought the game for detroit. Long live Chauncey.
as a sports fan this is one of the classiest moves i've ever seen Detroit really appreciates its old stars and this is breathtaking
No matter what colors he's wearing he'll always be a Detroit Piston our hearts. We love you, Chauncey, God bless you!
The tears come flooding back.
I just watched this on 5/16/21 and got chills... man I wish I could relive 2004 again

#1 being Isiah

It was so cool that Mason (the pistons announcer) still made it sound like chauncy was part of the Pistons team once a Pistons always a piston
My Favorite PG of all time. What a Class Act. MR. BIG SHOT.

Sometimes when I know I havent cried in a long time, I tend to watch these “Player return” videos. They make me cry. 😂

6'3!!!! Chauncey!!!
I hardly ever go to games but I was there for this. Cool moment. At least we wound up winning.
"THE 6'3, ChaunCEY, BA - BA - BA - BILLIUPS!"
Can’t thank you enough Chauncey🙌🏽
my favorite piston player😢
Chauncey deserves all the love he gets from Detroit
Very nice. Billups, a competitor, leader, clutch player & professional. Love to see players rewarded for their loyalty and hard work.
I got chills too!
Mason induces goosebumps frfr!
Chauncey didnt leave Detroit like how lebron left cleveland
The fans know it. Dumars was a fool

Miss him here in Denver. I hope the Mile High City gives him as warm of a welcome as Detroit did. We all love Chauncey B-b-b-b-b-billups
Pistons went down hill since we lost Chauncey. Thanks for the sweet memories.
CB is pure class. We love him here in Michigan.
Billups was a classy, classy guy. Great person and great basketball player. I'm glad I had the chance to watch him play in the Pistons era.
Detroit and Boston have the best welcome-back tributes.
I was there the place was deafening after he stood up. It seemed like the crowd went forever. One of the best feelings
Agreed man, Chauncey Billups is one of the most underrated players in NBA history
i f***ing love billups, 04 pistons were phenomenal to watch, staying classy in the D!
00:23 How long has Nicola Jokic been at the Nuggets for???!!
The Best Point Guard in the Nba I Like this Guy!!!

This video gives me chills when I see it just on what Chauncey meant to the pistons wow

He'll forever be one of the greatest losses/trade blunder to the Pistons/Detroit family. We'll miss him and as a Metro Detroiter I'll always be a Billups fan.

0:23 Jokic is a time traveling demon 🤣

ugh.... I CANT WAIT FOR DETROIT BASKETBALL!!!!!!!!! welcome back CHAUNCEY! missed ya bro!
Chauncey is still and always will be Mr. Big Shot
hey Cleveland, this is how you greet a player for bringing success to your team
No because we respect Chauncey for what he's done for the Pistons organization and the fact that we had winning seasons every years after the 2004 finals and we appreciate all he's done....so If he decided to do a "decision" type thing we wouldn't hate him like those ungrateful Cleveland fans.
I have tromendous respect for you Chauncey Billups by Steve Irungu Jermaine
You can’t tell me that’s not Jokic at 24 seconds. 😂
I can't wait for the season opener!
Brings goosebumps to my skin
So glad he's back. Pistons look like they might be a playoff team next year (obviously not just because of him)
Welcome back buh buh buh billups!

dude i wish my team had the annoucer guy he sounds sooo tight. lakers guy is just quiet and calm...
He gave the city a championship. Of course he's gonna get a hero's welcome!!!
one of the smartest playin point gaurds to ever step foot on a court.
this guy is well respected.
he get lots of respect from Detroit
I was at this game crowd was electric, Joe Dumars sure knows how to break up a team smh haven’t won a playoff game since this trade

@bear9219 I know right. We have had a soulless team since Sheed and him exited the Palace.
And now we can say welcome back home Chauncey!
Chauncey Billups is the best EVER!

im going to cry
i love billups dude!
Joe Dumars, what the hell were you thinking trading Billups?!
respect!
Why didn't they do this for Rip or Tayshaun?
G.O.A.T
Yes, but he brought success and glory to Cleveland for 7 years!!! Division chams, Conference cham, Reg season champ... Clevelend became great team when Lebron arrived. And fans forgot all that great stuff. But ok, Miami will always love and respect their 2 times NBA finals MVP! :D
@BigDiesel36 You're not the only Pistons fan saying that.
The Billups-Iverson trade was one of the biggest mistakes ever! You ride with your boys until the wheels fall off.
Did Ben get a similar former player intro?
Aaronstark19 he got booed
Hell no!
i wonde if billups had had a "decision" special, would they boo him????
04 Pistons baby!!!!!
Saddest shit that happened to me in my childhood
che giocatore!
@thetruthandlie i wish i could go to a pistons game, but i live in Rhode Island.
those players were in the nba for a reason. wished i had that much talent so i could host a show and not tell my team i'm not interested in staying with them and screwing them over for several years to come
awesome
@xee00 i'm assuming they mean loyalty wise
Why are people comparing Chauncey's return to LeBron's? Chauncey never wanted to leave, he was traded. LeBron just bailed on Cleveland and sold them out on national television. The fans had every right to boo him when he came back. Comparing the way both of them left their teams is stupid because it's two completely different scenarios. Get a clue, people.
