Great explanation. I knew something wasn't right when I was seeing used G80's go for $95K with 10k miles. Probably cheaper order a new one. Can't wait for this bubble to burst.
I was at the dealership in Brooklyn yesterday. Calculated quoting for a new 2022 M3C G80 XDrive + equipment + NY tax = $86, 395. Then adding a dealership fee of $6,000 makes a total selling price of $92,395
Paid sticker for mine in August, and it was a custom order. BMW in Murray (Salt Lake City) was completely honest with me on the deal. This is the first time I ever paid sticker for a car, but it was also a custom order. They said they had 4 people that offered to buy the car from them at over sticker.
The reason is because BMW will not let dealerships put much markup on the vehicles. Or that dealership will not get a large allotment of cars from BMW. But that does not count on use cars😉. So some dealerships used the cars as demos then sale them as used and marked them up to get around the agreement.
That is exactly what I saw as well. I’m looking at cars with 500 miles being purchased a week ago and somehow get traded back into the dealer. I’m like who waits 6-10 months for a car and trades it a week later? Also same thing with 992 GT3, it’s two years or more to get one and see low mileage just get traded back to dealer.
Eh, not 100% agreeing with this one. I paid $103k for my G82 M4. The base, base model, costs $78,800 when I bought mine. So, I specd $24,000 in options. Luckily for me, I paid MSRP. But you are saying, don’t buy a used G80 M3, to just wait. Well, even the allocations are being marked up, in most cases. You’re still getting an allocation from a dealer. It’s not like you can order a car directly from BMW at MSRP. People are still paying markup for allocations. Second: The e46 M3 market, has been inflated for a while. I’m not surprised. I was looking at them 3 years ago, and a fine example with low mileage, was $40,000. The e92 is now in the same category, as far as pricing goes. But, it’s also, as the world eventually shifts to electric cars, the e92 will be the last naturally aspirated M3 and it was also a high revving V8, also worth more money. Also, when it comes to the G8X, again, you can’t order the car, directly from BMW. You have to sit down at a dealer, that actually has an allocation, or put a deposit down, and get on their waiting list, assuming the dealer is even going to be getting any more allocations. Are they even going to tell you if they’re eligible to get any more? Allocations are generally based on their sales performance numbers from previous years. A low end dealer may have sold 10 M3s last year, and may only be allotted 6 allocations, this year. Where a high volume dealer, may have sold 40 or more, and have an allocation coming of 30, or more. And that dealer knows that. So, if you want one, knowing that they’re going to keep a steady flow of allocations, you’re going to pay their allocation markup, or keep looking, elsewhere. It does come down to a simple supply any demand. Browse the BMW forums, and see how long peoples cars are sitting at the port, waiting for parts. Some peoples cars have been built for 2 months, and they’re sitting at the destination port, waiting on RAM (receiver audio modules) my car was stuck at the port only 8 days, so, I really can’t complain. My car took 98 days from order to my driveway. And that’s sitting on the boat for 28, coming from Germany. It’s a dog eat dog world, out there, right now. So, it’s just not that easy to order a car, and expect to get it, in under 6 months, right now. There are massive delays on Laserlights, carbon bucket seats, and parking assistance package, because it comes with 360° cameras. So, are you willing to sit down at a dealer and pay an inflated sales price, or sit down at a dealer, pay an inflated allocation price, order the car, and then be told that some options have been removed from even being able to order them, like carbon bucket seats, laserlights, and 360° cameras? And then saying yes, I’d like to keep those options on my order sheet, and then getting your order pulled from the production schedule, completely, because you want something thru can’t give you, with no ETA when it’s going to be available, or pay a little over for a used car, with everything you want, and you can have it, today? Tough decision.
Lol you bought arguably the worst m3/4 for 100k??? Lol I would of bought a lime rock e90 or even a stupid low mileage e46 and made some money on that in the long run.

I don’t see any problems with used car mark ups, new cars are cheaper because you had to wait 3-5 months for it. It’s the same with everything else in life - you want it quick , you pay more.
My G80 xDrive "should" be here around late May to early June. I went all out on this build with individual paint & M performance parts. After all said & done, buying at MSRP (No markup) the car is coming in right around $106,XXX after tax/tags/title. I considered the M5 after seeing this but decided this one was best for me....plus the M5 would be about another 20-25k more. Can't wait!!
@@megamangib Thank you! Yes, so with all G80 orders there can be a lengthy wait list for allocations. I placed deposits at 3 dealers to get the first allocation & cancelled the other 2 (got money back.) I ordered Twilight Purple. Vehicle production is scheduled to be completed Wednesday the 9th. @@Grumps5 wow that’s crazy i was just thinking how gorgeous the twilight purple looks haha! Do you need an allocation to put an order in (in general) or just need to do that if you want an individual color? Also how much was each deposit for allocation if i may ask?
@@megamangib Thanks! It's becoming a popular color, I cannot wait to get it. The factories are currently shut down right now with everything going on in the Ukraine. I do agree with your opinion and explanation of the used market! Although, the E30, E36, and E46 M3 are more than likely never coming back down so I wouldn’t recommend waiting on these older M cars! But definitely E9X, F8X and G8X will all ~hopefully~ settle down here soon!
I'm cross shopping a 2018 m3 competition manual to the new g80 manual. A low mileage 2018 f80 with some decent options gets close to 70k. A few examples are more than 70k and even those rarely have the color combo I want. When you factor in the warranty expiring for 2018 cars, the lack of android Auto, and missing things like the new carbon seats, it pushed me to put a deposit down on a g80 allocation. I think when the market corrects in a couple years the f80 will be hit harder vs a new g80 right now. That, and when more people get over the front end and start to accept it.
I don't understand the issue: if the latest model costs more because of extras you're not forced to take, then just order one without those options. It's a bit strange complaining about having to pay for stuff that didn't even exist during previous generations while you're not obliged to take that stuff. Unless you're really impatient ... but I myself would never buy a new car sitting at a dealership. Just configure, order and wait ...
Its the worst time to buy any car unfortunately. People are just not patient but I agree, unless you absolutely need the car, don't buy a car right now. Hopefully prices will come down eventually but then I am afraid we will have to deal with the cool ICE cars are expensive because all the new cars are EVs
The 2023 G80 m3 increased its base price. Now has has the idrive 8 big screen. Not a fan of either at all! Giving up my allocation spot I’ve held since January. I wish I could just order the 2022 I’ve had in the build que since the beginning.
