A couple of thoughts/questions: I know the BMW design chief said 1 in 5 liked this design, but it feels like way fewer actually do... I'm one of those very few who actually do like it. To me, the new grill looks angry and distinctive as compared to the normal M3 (and it's way more appealing, to me, than the awkward and gargantuan grill on the 7 series). My biggest problem is with the fact that the rear doors don't blend into the rear wheel arch flares. Now, which would people prefer: the Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio, the M3, the C63, the CT4-V Blacking, or the RS5? Anything else you'd consider over this to get the ultimate combo of performance, luxury, fun and practicality?
Actually I was thinking the same thing until i saw the car for the first time. It screams agression when u look at it, and obviously thats what the designers wanted from the m3 in the first place.

I seriously doubt it makes a difference, or they would offer it for the normal cars they sell many times more of.
Wouldnt make sense to keep a non performance sales argument from the other models.
Maybe on the e36 which was the first car to have it, it had some effect. No, I am pretty sure its just another styling choice to differentiate it from lower models, they have put tons of those on the M cars over the years.

Anything else you'd consider over this to get the ultimate combo of performance, luxury, fun and practicality?

i dont mind the grille
go for the alpina b3 then. it’s more beautiful and as quick as the m3
Would you buy it inspite of it?

When Doug's head can fit inside the grill opening, then you have gone way overboard on grill design.
grill is amazingly ugly
I bought it,for 1 reason...the grills...love it.
When you convince yourself that 4 out of 5 people NOT liking your design is actually a good thing, you're on the Hubris Road to failure long term.
BMW is trying to sell cars. When 4 out of 5 people think it is hideous you have a huge problem.
This isn't introspection and seeking the meaning of life; this is trying to sell hideous cars to people that hate them.
@CarFreak You're right. It will likely go to 6 out of 5 then.
You guys didn't even read the whole statement. I'm sure Doug did and was just being mischievous. What was said was 4 out 5 customers (note, customers not BMW customers) don't like the new grilles. The other 1/5 accounts for 20% of car customers and that is inline with BMW'S customer base. According to BMW that has always been their customer base 1 out 5 which account for 20% of all car customers.
The people bashing and condemning the grilles are motor journalists and people making comments such as these who are really not going to buy their products regardless. Their true customer base 1/5 actually love it and sales have not dropped.
So you guys can be here and whine all you want, BMW is not going to change their design language to satisfy you who is not going to buy the product in the first and neglect their real customers.
@@tjones2260 Doesn't matter if it was tongue in cheek. It is objectively hideous. The only people who "like" it were the kids in elementary school who said they didn't like pizza/ice cream/whatever because it got them attention. Everyone likes pizza and ice cream.

BMW suddenly became hostile against it’s fanbase while defending the grille’s design. They think this is a good PR plan 😒 I own a 2011 BMW E92 and loved BMWs since my childhood in the 1980s. However, what’s happening now is beyond a design change. I remember the Chris Bangle 7 series when it was launched in 2002, yes I didn’t like it in the beginning but that changed within months. I even considered buying an E60 5 series back in 2006. I think what’s happening with the new grille is just some new clowns at BMW mocking the brand, it’s fans and customers, and even the people who worked hard at the company over the past decades to build its image.
BMW has made many questionable decisions lately, read about short term ex BMW CEO Harald Krueger's misreading of the electric market trends.
