A used F80 manual commands a premium over the DCT models (if you can even find one). I own a 2018 DCT model, and while I love this transmission, I still pine over a proper manual. Curious how the auto transmission in the G80 compares to the DCT.
@@nuevocomienzo9571 Auto does 90% of what the DCT did, but feels a lot more pedestrian and less racy than the full throttle upshifts/awesome downshifts of the DCT. You get the same basic kind of trans in the M340, 330, etc.. there's a reason Porsche is still using and developing them
@@papa_pt True but the ZF doesn't have the low speed jerkiness and harsh often unsettling upshifts. The BMW DCT was never on par with the PDK or Audi DSG IMO, its not a loss but its a shame BMW couldnt develop something better
The manual G80 M3 might be one of the best daily drivers of all time… Size is just right for stuff and family, engine is an absolute savage, looks great IMO, modern tech, fast as hell, handles great, decent gas milage, sporty when you want, comfortable when you don’t & last of the manuals…
I may be in the minority, but I genuinely LOVE the beaver look on the sedan ONLY. It’s hideous on the G82. But the G80? It just works. I’m also happy that you can get it in manual. It’s definitely on my short list of daily driver purchases for my next buy.
Jack - the gear ratios are perfect. If you have gears that are too high you fall into the big Porsche manual mistake of gears being too high that you can't use on the street or too many gears in a manual that cause missed shifts. Thank you BMW for getting it right! Great review other than that one point guys!

If you’re still complaining about the grilles, you’re missing the point. Remember in the early 2000s when Audi went to a massive singular grille, and then Lexus soon followed, and then Hyundai too? The times, the times - they are a changin. Having said that, I think the M3 looks far less distracting than the diamond-cross-hatch style of the standard 3 and 4 series. As an avid BMW enthusiast and driver; thank you Mark and Jacques, and those that donated vehicles to make this video possible. Great work as always, gents.

In terms of looks, the last generation m3 had a sleek profile, and was atleast comparable to the gorgeously sculpted Alfa. But with this new hot mess, the whole sleekness is lost and the confident face is replaced by beaver teeth. The only redeeming factor about this car is the 6spd manual.
@@sidshady7413 The Giulia is nowhere near as 'gorgeously sculpted' as a lentil. Seriously. Look at a 1999 Ford Contour. Same thing. It's a sad attempt at smooshing the Alfa 8C into a sedan shape. There's zero of the charm of classic Alfas, and the only worse looking Alfas are the 147 GTA and the SZ. At least the SZ is interesting. Both the M3 and the Giulia are genuinely thrilling (as in kinda scary) to drive, even in automatic and blow away something like the Audi RS5 for drama.

I saw one of these M4s in that same spec snd color in Ypsilanti at a gas station. The guy had just bought it in Ann Arbor. He told me he had bought his daughter an M3! Crazy beautiful car!

I love the looks. And I love that it is quiet. I don’t mind that if you want to hear the engine better on track, you have to turn on the fake engine sound. I don’t like noisy cars on the road.
Much like the coupe SUVs, BMW knows what sells. As much as people complain about the 4 series, they're selling well. 2600 sold in June vs 4800 3 series. The way the internet talks you would have thought the 4 series would have been only 10% of 3 series sales, anything but. Also worth noting the vast majority of these are sold in the US, people need to stop blaming the grill on the Chinese market. This atrocious giant grill is for the US, and it's working.
here's the thing I could buy of these, but not afford it. So for the person who/whom can afford it, a large percentage will be leasing and be using it as a daily, so an auto is the smart choice, think of buying your new F150 (typical auto purchase within striking distance of this price) as a stick, nope. But as a second owner (or third) I would be looking to this as a weekend car, like my old Z4, and only a manual need apply for that job. So car enthusiasts do prefer manuals, but they don't buy cars like this new. I read similar meanderings in Road and Track in the early eighties, maybe late seventies (I'm old) Also, glad the grill, or air intake is functional, because it is an eyesore. Great review.
A wagon version would be nuts. Comp package, manual, carbon brakes, F-150 Flareside Teal, HRE wheels, on airbags, mirror tint. The envy of any cars and coffee. Do they still make Lambo door kits?

C63 is slower in essentially any performance contest. It's also slower than a ZL1 1LE on track if "brutal" is your priority. C63 reliability is also kind of sketchy
This is what BMW Motorsport does. Take their ordinary models and make them suitable for track use. It takes a lot of engineering to do that. Look at that engine. A straight six with twin turbos that brings home the bacon. For me personally, the new M3 and M4 are too big to comfortably hustle on the track. Which is why I have the M2. It's a mad scientist car that escaped the lab. I love it.
The fake engine noise is SO LOUD and totally unncessary! Like why, BMW! Maybe it was just how you guys mic'ed it, but man. Great job as always, by the way.

C63 is slower in essentially any performance contest. It's also slower than a ZL1 1LE on track if "brutal" is your priority. C63 reliability is also kind of sketchy

This is what BMW Motorsport does. Take their ordinary models and make them suitable for track use. It takes a lot of engineering to do that. Look at that engine. A straight six with twin turbos that brings home the bacon. For me personally, the new M3 and M4 are too big to comfortably hustle on the track. Which is why I have the M2. It's a mad scientist car that escaped the lab. I love it.
The fake engine noise is SO LOUD and totally unncessary! Like why, BMW! Maybe it was just how you guys mic'ed it, but man. Great job as always, by the way.
