This is an extraordinarily sophisticated, world class jazz vocal at ANY age. I'm completely blown away by this, and heartbroken all over again by the fresh magnitude of loss it makes me feel. She destroyed herself and her talent SO fast it's just dizzying.
She was ahead of her time and yet classic... A rare singer, she was this generation's Rickie Lee Jones, only Rickie survived... Like Rickie, Amy sounded like she grew up in her own unique neighborhood, with their own unique phrasing, and melodic dialect, and street sound, something old, something new, yet something completely original, that you just couldn't put your finger on, and copy, she was genius. And I'm the first to admit it, I'm a music snob...
