Lyrics
You should be stronger than me
You been here seven years longer than me
Don't you know you supposed to be the man?
Not pale in comparison to who you think I am
You always wanna talk it through, I don't care
I always have to comfort you when I'm there
But that's what I need you to do, stroke my hair
'Cause I've forgotten all of young love's joy
Feel like a lady and you my ladyboy
You should be stronger than me
But instead you're longer than frozen turkey
Why'd you always put me in control?
All I need is for my man to live up to his role
Always wanna talk it through, I'm okay
Always have to comfort you every day
But that's what I need you to do, are you gay?
'Cause I've forgotten all of young love's joy
Feel like a lady, and you my ladyboy
He said, "The respect I made you earn
Thought you had so many lessons to learn"
I said, "You don't know what love is, get a grip
Sound as if you're reading from some other tired script"
I'm not gonna meet your mother anytime
I just wanna grip your body over mine
Please tell me why you think that's a crime
I've forgotten all of young love's joy
Feel like a lady and you my ladyboy
You should be stronger than me
You should be stronger than me
You should be stronger than me
You should be stronger than me

She looks so healthy here. A true Jazz and Soul singer. Miss you little lady. Wish you could have stayed here longer.

The fact that a 19 year old had the wherewithal to put these feeling into words and into a song is amazing! Amy was a true talent!
I was just thinking this
Not only talent. She was a born singer and musician.

Yep. Look up Laura Nyro for another example. She was another goddess who wrote many hits during her teens.
@@hippydippy Can you recommend a song?
I was there in the studio audience. Still remember it vividly, marveling at finding a new and wonderful talent, coming seemingly out of nowhere.
Damn. What an experience that must've been.
You were in the presence of greatness. Im so jealous 😭
Did anyone complain about the clapping?
How phenomenal Rowdy. Truly one of the most important vocalists in musical history. Lucky you, man.
What made her talented? Her voice sounds copped from earlier artists. I don't think her guitar playing is even outputting to the speakers.
The older I get , the more I appreciate her .

@@annecaru9208 , I realise how gifted she was. When she first came on the music scene I thought she was just another young pop singer with a gimic hairdo and eye liner. This is one of my favourite performances of Amys.
R.i.p
Her voice was an unique instrument
It was very horn like
More specifically it was her "vocal phrasing", it was "next level". Unusual for a pop artist !
@@HM55-77 She grew up on Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington, The Shangri-Las and Phil Spector records, so she knew how to really sing.
@@j.c7719 That answers a lot of my questions !

Yes, such beautiful truth ❤
this comment hurt me so much
and so much pain she would be feeling.... :/
That's awesome
Her victory voice? What the fuk does that even mean?
I just think that Amy and her guitar is the best combo ever.
is she ACTUALLY playing in this performance
@@HM55-77 yeah she most definitely is playing the guitar live as she sings. It’s much easier to tell with earphones or headphones but if you listen to and specifically focus in on the right side, you can clearly hear a rhythm guitar. As a musician and guitarist myself, I can tell you that the melodic and rhythmic phrasing she’s using on the guitar and all of the dynamics of the performance you’re hearing do indeed line up perfectly with what she’s playing visually! She was immensely talented. There’s quite a few great videos around of her playing alone with an acoustic guitar and she’s definitely quite competent to do what she did, especially while singing so brilliantly well. Usually one takes a back burner to the other and by comparison leaves the lesser skill feeling lacking. With Amy tho, she was one of those true unicorns that could do it all and although her vocals took the spotlight, her talents on other instruments she played should not be overlooked or taken for granted.
@@HM55-77 re watch the opening and you can see the other guitarist is not playing, plus his hand is above the twelfth.
I immediately scrutinized the performance thinking too good to be true... pretty impressive.
@@roscius6204 Thanks for the reply. I see what you are saying, but not sure I am totally convinced. Its a minor detail. Always glad re-watch her performance. What a talent !!! I just love her vocal phrasing
@@HM55-77 Hi, there's 2 guitars in the mix and one is hers, he's not playing the same chord voicing a lot of the time. the other tell is that she's got eyes on the fretboard, when people are faking it they tend to over shoot reality a bit
Lady plays the Strat. While singing the blues, Lovely combination.
She IS a phenomenon. That maturity, level of professionalism, the quality of her voice, sense of rythm, just one ina million talent! She couldn't be taught, cause she already knew it all, and had it all...

I love the way she dances around the beat. Sinatra is the only other singer I can think of with such sophisticated timing
Perfect description. She's so good and comfortable that she doesn't need to stay with the beat, she dances circles around it, somehow without sounding messy.
É que ela era um cantora de jazz em essência ❤
Her exchange with Benny Goodman is so cool… And yes, any musician could probably learn boatloads from her time in the way you described it.
Sly Stone, Mel Torme, Ella Fitzgerald, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Janis Joplin, Willie Nelson are all rhythmically sophisticated as Sinatra if not moreso in some cases. Sarah --- I agree completely...and as a guitarist myself I can tell you she knew how to lay back and "comp" while another musician is playing their solo...I don't know why (or who) she was persuaded to just sing because she is as good as a jazz rhythm fingerstyle player as you'd likely find...I MISS HER!!!
@@1060michaelg do you think it’s possible that maybe it was her choice? I am being serious. I feel like I’ve seen interviews with her talking about what it’s like writing with her bandmates. It always seemed symbiotic to me, but I wasn’t there. I hope that she wasn’t really put up on the shelf like that. It is extremely satisfying to watch her play and sing at the same time. I find it just as satisfying to watch her just sing sometimes too, but that’s because she was so very amazing.
@@kassandrakid9440 Anie--- I agree with as regards the symbiosis that existed between her and her band...maybe at some point Amy just figured, I'll just sing because she had top notch players so perhaps she thought "It'd be redundant to have me playing as well..." but I can't get over that, to me, she looked a little uncomfortable without her guitar, but not all the time. Certainly her producer and her "people" had influence and were no doubt saying, "Amy, they come to see you sing..."
and there is a parallel between Amy and Karen Carpenter in this area; Karen was an expert drummer (and many other instruments). It gave her joy to play. But in Karen's case, she was tactlessly pushed into giving up playing onstage and just be the front girl, singing. Karen HATED not being able to play, and you could see it.
But I don't think Amy, even at her most vulnerable, could be "Pushed" into anything!
Heh, that's my long winded way of agreeing with you!! Peace.
Nobody is stronger than You.Thank You-Amy Winehouse.

Amy would have been 40 this year. My goodness to think what her voice, personality, creativity and presence would have been if only she made it to 40, 45 or 55 and brought the weight of time, experience and confidence to her music. It boggles the mind to think this was Amy in her raw youth, and with age, would have take us all to even greater heights. Her premature death is an incalculable loss.
You still have lady gaga lol.. same person different characters..
@15gb I loved Gaga in the past but she'll never be what Amy became in a short period of time. She just became a slave to the music industry and that is something Amy wouldn't do. She had a record label, Lioness Records, and she would have done something with it. Also Amy and Gaga are not the same person... that bullshit theory
Her loss is a disgrace. She is and continues to be, with the music she left behind, the best artist of this generation. Love you Amy❤️

One of the few singers who sang directly from her soul.
There are many.
Amy Winehouse was a true soul singer. But there are hundreds (at least) of well-known singers who sang from their souls.
@@Beherenoww She was very talented, I agree.
My point was that there are and have been many, many singers who also sang from their souls, and who wrote great music. Some people have a tendency to indulge in hagiography of a particular singer, especially if they died young.
I am a long-time professional singer, who has played countless gigs with other singers and songwriters who reinvent their songs every time they sing, and who write powerfully from their souls. And that's not even mentioning the many well-known artists who also do that.
Again, Amy Winehouse was a great talent, and I really do love her chops and music. But there are many who are equally talented, and each one is "inique" in their own way.
Yeah, we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I'm not going to do your homework for you and direct you to the many other great singer/songwriters from past and present who are in the same class musically. That's for you to do, because that's where the fun is!
Open your ears, and don't get stuck on the comparison game where a singer or band must be 'the greatest' or whatever. I'm a long-time gigging professional musician and singer, and I can tell you that most professional musicians simply don't play that whole "who's best?" game. We recognize the many incredibly talented people out there, each one unique in their own right.
'Nuff said.@@Beherenoww
