@@elledeewhite8096 it’s deeper than that. He’s always getting drunk whining about his problems and she always has to comfort him. He isn’t really there for her at all. He’s just a weak boy not a man. She’s stronger than him. No wonder she doesn’t want to meet his mom.
Amy is timeless, borrowing a lot from the 50's and 60's she still sounds fresh to this day, her songs age like good wine (no pun intended), even from the time her albums came out, if you think about it there are a lot of 2000's songs that sound so outdated today.
When I see her and hear her music I choke up in tears til this day. There was something so real raw and authentic about her and her pain speaks to the pain in all of us who hurt. I will always love her.
Amy, like so many exceptionally talented women, is a raw nerve--totally exposed despite the brutal honesty, humor, and 'toughness' of the words she sings. True artists tear themselves open for us to re-experience our very human existences. Power and vulnerability displayed going head-to-head--such brilliance and poignant beauty.
Same here. I lost a close friend who was killed the same day Amy was born but in 2014. Everrytime I listen to Amy is a bittersweet feeling. My gf was an amazing person. Who loved just too much a bad guy…
In my opinion, her first album Frank is better than Back in Black, It's incredible that a young woman of 19 years could recorded an album such jazzy, groovy and soulful
Just came from watching “Amy” on Netflix. 💔 what a heartbreaking life she led. I’m sorry everyone in her life failed to get the help she needed (including herself) to get stronger in mind and body. She left this world way too soon. Pure talent, there will never be another. Rip angel❣️

Mrs. Angelina Parker I agree. I would say I’m a fan but I didn’t start listening until a few years after she died. If only she could have gone back in time to warn herself to get some help. I miss her, her voice is amazing.
I think deep down Amy was looking for the safety in a man, she felt like a lost girl and only wanted someone to love her and take care of her. Girls/women like Amy do cause trouble which is the root why they want someone safe so they can grew from it.
Such a great song. It reminds me of what I've tried teaching my nieces. I've always told them, "You are NOT your man's mother. Don't ever put up with such mess. And remember you are only worthy of the same kind of partner you are willing to be, so make sure you have your s*** together first before considering any man."
I'd also teach my niece to not be like the girl in the song, because expecting the boyfriend to be "manly and emotionally stronger" and to suggest that this is weakness, un-manliness or worse "gayness" is a dangerous and outdated ideal
I’d rather live life with my heart on my sleeve and get burned, than live inauthenticity and safely. A soul and talent like AMY comes across once a generation.

Till this day, it is impossible to say that another artist have continued where Amy left off. No one comes close to delivering lyrically and vocally like she did.
In some respects, despite different styles, she filled the gap left by Janis Joplin. It may be that someone else 10-20 years from now, may do the same.
Love this song! I think people constantly misinterpret the meaning. I think it's more expressing being tired of constantly being the "mature" one in a relationship. To me, she sounds more frustrated that she has to "man up" and take charge consistently than her other half taking responsibility for poor behavior be it infidelity, petty lies, money lending to others, gambling, drinking, drugs whatever. (He constantly shows the same patterns and it tiring her, he thinks he is smoothing it over, and taking her for granted even...) She also sounds like she tends to consistently emotionally be drained, or has to be consistently emotional aware in this relationship, directing it the right way, rather than her counterpart putting in his time. She wants to enjoy it, not just "mother" all the time because her partner doesn't seem to understand what a healthy relationship requires. I think she just sassed it up because some people learn better with attitude than being sweet, so you need to shake em. It sounds like someone who just had the last straw in terms or patience when handling someone manipulative or unable to be strong for the both of them to be in a proper relationship with her.

JAYLYN S all this song does is promote normative gender roles and the idea men should be "tough". talented? i think not. stereotypical and champion for the normal? yes
+Jill Scheintal nah, she makes explicit references to gender roles several times and even questions his sexuality. This song is inherently sexist, let's not be fools now. Imagine a man going on about how a woman should be weaker than him and live up to her role ??
Amy got healthy in this video and said exactly what millions of women have wanted to say to their men for god knows how long! Girl, we lost a shining star when you passed away.
Mark Santucci she had a unique style that im sure alot of girls woulda been inspired from. She coulda done work in fashion. Or cosmetics. Britney and mariah are okay but amys songwriting skills are on a whole other level. We will never know now:(
Foe me FRANK album is Amy`s best work. She came out guns blazing. RIP love from Zimbabwe Africa. Love the Jazzy, Funky Hip Hop, Neo soul blend she made with the album.
Every time I watch the Tears Dry On Their Own music video, I always think to myself "Congratulations! Now your body weight is 60% hair." Oh the things drugs can do to people...
I mean, the rest of the lyrics are implying men shouldn't feel emotions or want to talk about them; she even goes so far as to ask "are you gay"? So...... I personally don't think we should confine men to those roles.
A long period of alcohol & drug addiction ultimately killed Amy - as sad as it is she also couldn't accept the help of her family & true friends - I truly believe up to this day if she had kept her true / real friends & family around her on a daily basis she would still be here now , but instead she sadly had alot of temporary / fake friends who were only interested for the £££ ride.
+abenaa Caesar Agree. I think we're all partly to blame just allowing the media to hound her and be so abusive towards her. I'm so ashamed that I used to follow stories in the papers about how "Amy's messed up again". We should all have just turned our backs on it and not encouraged or contributed to the media circus that tormented her.
+Lauren Walker you're basing that idea entirely off the documentary. Most professionals with experience working with people with addiction and mental health issues will tell you what happened with Amy is far more complex than her parents getting divorced. They obviously made mistakes, but I don't many who don't.
+SamanthaMumbaVEVO͘ Here's a amazing talented woman who took a lot of brutal hits in her life and coped the only way she knew how. I'm not making excuses for her...I'm just saying when you hear and see her perform you get a sense of the incredible talent she had and deep pain she went through with everyone taking from her life and not understanding or caring what was in her mind and heart. I'm not a expert on A.W....in fact I didn't even discover her music until after her death. But once I heard those pipes of hers ...WOW it was instant love. Soon after I began to read about her ups and down's in life and her struggle with addiction. How sad the only way she knew how to ask for help was through her music. I wish she could have gotten the help she wanted before she began to self medicate and most of all I deeply regret I didn't get hip to her until after the death...what a wonderful talent and wonderful lady

True, but she was singing about not really wanting to be in a relationship or too serious. "I'm not gonna meet your mother anytime. I just wanna grip your body over mine."
@@elledeewhite8096 it’s deeper than that. He’s always getting drunk whining about his problems and she always has to comfort him. He isn’t really there for her at all. He’s just a weak boy not a man. She’s stronger than him.
No wonder she doesn’t want to meet his mom.
@@faithb8347 Yeah, okay. She is just as toxic. Leave him alone if he is bringing that much drama to her life.
I’m 54 and my life experience tells me this was a masters!

The instrumental for this song match lofi songs perfectly. This song was really ahead of its time
Amy is timeless, borrowing a lot from the 50's and 60's she still sounds fresh to this day, her songs age like good wine (no pun intended), even from the time her albums came out, if you think about it there are a lot of 2000's songs that sound so outdated today.
You’re so right omg
Yes right!
It's not lofi, it's like a chill rap instrumental
Oh wow it's like lofi beats are not derived from hip hop beats
What a beautiful talented young woman the world is poorer without Amy !!!
Still missing you amy

Hello
I love the way she sings "I'm not gonna meet your mother"
Especially how she sings "not" with that unique voice.
I love more the special "anytime", with a perfect face XD
I'VE REPLAYED THAT PART 30 TIMES I swear I love that part
❤ lol...😂😂❤
When I see her and hear her music I choke up in tears til this day. There was something so real raw and authentic about her and her pain speaks to the pain in all of us who hurt. I will always love her.
beautifully stated
exactly how i feel, me too
Amy, like so many exceptionally talented women, is a raw nerve--totally exposed despite the brutal honesty, humor, and 'toughness' of the words she sings. True artists tear themselves open for us to re-experience our very human existences. Power and vulnerability displayed going head-to-head--such brilliance and poignant beauty.

In my opinion, her first album Frank is better than Back in Black, It's incredible that a young woman of 19 years could recorded an album such jazzy, groovy and soulful

And it's not all about a man who basically helped destroy her life
No way! She was 19?? Seriously?

Just came from watching “Amy” on Netflix. 💔 what a heartbreaking life she led. I’m sorry everyone in her life failed to get the help she needed (including herself) to get stronger in mind and body. She left this world way too soon. Pure talent, there will never be another. Rip angel❣️
On netflix? I can’t find it :(((
Agnese Barile look under Amy
Noone deserves to feel like nothing and destroy herself. It's always sad. And we already lost too many people suffering.. Because of other people.. because of lack of humanity.. it's a common problem and it's so sad.
I want to watch I cant I might start crying.
That film broke my heart.
She was so Beautiful and Healthy!!! My Heart Breaks for Her. She had so much Talent.
God, her eyes. It looks so alive here compared to her later songs where you could see that her eyes are already dead. so sad.

[Verse 1]
You should be stronger than me
You been here seven years longer than me
Don't you know you supposed to be the man?
Not pale in comparison to who you think I am
You always wanna talk it through, I don't care
I always have to comfort you when I'm there
But that's what I need you to do, stroke my hair
[Chorus]
'Cause I've forgotten all of young love's joy
Feel like a lady and you my ladyboy
[Verse 2]
You should be stronger than me
But instead you're longer than frozen turkey
Why'd you always put me in control?
All I need is for my man to live up to his role
Always wanna talk it through, I'm okay
Always have to comfort you every day
But that's what I need you to do, are you gay?
'Cause I've forgotten all of young love's joy
Feel like a lady, and you my ladyboy
[Verse 3]
He said, "The respect I made you earn
Thought you had so many lessons to learn"
I said, "You don't know what love is, get a grip
Sound as if you're reading from some other tired script"
I'm not gonna meet your mother anytime
I just wanna grip your body over mine
Please tell me why you think that's a crime
[Chorus]
I've forgotten all of young love's joy
Feel like a lady and you my ladyboy
[Outro]
You should be stronger than me
You should be stronger than me
You should be stronger than me
You should be stronger than me

Letisha NativeNYer I'm mostly into christian music because I'm a follower of Christ.ive never listened to her..not when she was alive.i think I saw one video of her years ago.didny realize who she was.i began looking at pix of her before her death in comparison to how she is here.my heart aches.im mean seriously I'm not even a fan.but my suspicions would be that she had endured many traumas and the pressure of Hollywood wasn't for her...also the elites may have set her up with many people who'd entice her and offer her such a party life . She's so beautiful.when I see pix of her so skinny and high I just wanna hold her and tell her Jesus loves her. Idk why someone...someone didn't help her before she got that bad.anyways to someone...there's hop a in Jesus.he set me free.hell set u free.try Him.ask seek knock.
Mrs. Angelina Parker I agree. I would say I’m a fan but I didn’t start listening until a few years after she died. If only she could have gone back in time to warn herself to get some help. I miss her, her voice is amazing.

Look how beautiful she looks here!😍I wish she never got into drugs.
It was the alcohol that ultimately killed her. She was always an alcoholic. Tragic either way. She was a true artist
@@dianatorres9902 alcohol is a drug... But yeah I agree.
Whatdo uknow!!!
The drug was Blake and Love.
Sadly, her fame came not just by her talent but also because of her abuse of drugs.
That's why I liked her. She said what most women are unable to!
Unfortunately she only sung about it, instead of being about it....Blake was trash!
He was and he made her worse
she had too much heart for him and that lost her
It's not a song about Blake:)
I think deep down Amy was looking for the safety in a man, she felt like a lost girl and only wanted someone to love her and take care of her. Girls/women like Amy do cause trouble which is the root why they want someone safe so they can grew from it.
WHY SO CUUUUTE AT 0:54 OMG SHE IS FLAWLESS
Literally EVERY song on her Frank album gave me LIFEEE. I wish Amy had made one more Jazz/R&B album after Frank.
Such a great song. It reminds me of what I've tried teaching my nieces. I've always told them, "You are NOT your man's mother. Don't ever put up with such mess. And remember you are only worthy of the same kind of partner you are willing to be, so make sure you have your s*** together first before considering any man."
Word Up!!!!!💯💯💯💯
Your speaking truth!! Love what your trying to teach your nieces!🙌🏻💪🏻💯💯
I'd also teach my niece to not be like the girl in the song, because expecting the boyfriend to be "manly and emotionally stronger" and to suggest that this is weakness, un-manliness or worse "gayness" is a dangerous and outdated ideal
Love this 💙🤍💙🤍

Till this day, it is impossible to say that another artist have continued where Amy left off. No one comes close to delivering lyrically and vocally like she did.
i wholeheartedly agree. there'll only ever be one amy. she's irreplacable. truly gifted and talented beyond words.
In some respects, despite different styles, she filled the gap left by Janis Joplin. It may be that someone else 10-20 years from now, may do the same.
@@graybird2054Her lyrics + some input from her producer.
This is Amy Winehouse at her best. This video they hide for some reason. Show Amy at her best. This is a Masterpiece.
(He constantly shows the same patterns and it tiring her, he thinks he is smoothing it over, and taking her for granted even...)
She also sounds like she tends to consistently emotionally be drained, or has to be consistently emotional aware in this relationship, directing it the right way, rather than her counterpart putting in his time. She wants to enjoy it, not just "mother" all the time because her partner doesn't seem to understand what a healthy relationship requires. I think she just sassed it up because some people learn better with attitude than being sweet, so you need to shake em.
It sounds like someone who just had the last straw in terms or patience when handling someone manipulative or unable to be strong for the both of them to be in a proper relationship with her.
lol i've been feelin this
It's still very sixist... It's not a serious song though, people should relax.

the earth has lost one of the most uniquely talented and inspiring artists of her time her voice alone was like a beautiful jazz instrument for eva missed i love her she kept it real in life an thats why people hated on her cuz she didn't put train a fantasy or an allusion to a lure people she was who she was and if you judge her just remember you will be judged yourself one day the most talented and genius people in the world are the ones with the biggest addictions and problems they have the weight of the world weighing on their shoulders they're the ones that keep us entertained and if they don't live up to that we don't let them forget that we should remember there people just like us they're not dolls they do break
JAYLYN S all this song does is promote normative gender roles and the idea men should be "tough". talented? i think not. stereotypical and champion for the normal? yes
Peter Parker No. She's just sick of having to be the strong one all the time and mother him.
+Jill Scheintal nah, she makes explicit references to gender roles several times and even questions his sexuality. This song is inherently sexist, let's not be fools now. Imagine a man going on about how a woman should be weaker than him and live up to her role ??
I like the song.
Wow, that sentence was so long.
Amy got healthy in this video and said exactly what millions of women have wanted to say to their men for god knows how long! Girl, we lost a shining star when you passed away.
This was from her first album before she met Blake and got addicted to drugs. Should have stayed with jazz.
Oh, you must be new here honey lmfao 😹
This was before the addictions and blake like Veronica said. You must not be a true fan.
Shay Moore we really did, its been years and im still not over it..

this literally brakes my heart. she was beyond beautiful and so talented if only that way of thinking lasted. shame on the man who drove her downhill.
Kasie is that talent compared to Britn or talented compared to Mariah?
Mark Santucci she had a unique style that im sure alot of girls woulda been inspired from. She coulda done work in fashion. Or cosmetics. Britney and mariah are okay but amys songwriting skills are on a whole other level. We will never know now:(

Yes, but she already was alcoholic and bulimic.... :(
"All I need is for my man to live up to his role"
Yass girl! Who raised these fools?
Agreed
You're so awkward. Not sure why I said this! Oh right I know now. She's an AwkwardBlackGirl and she looks like a frikkin goth.
Yup true
Lol
I mean, the rest of the lyrics are implying men shouldn't feel emotions or want to talk about them; she even goes so far as to ask "are you gay"? So...... I personally don't think we should confine men to those roles.
An Amazing Jazz vocalist!🎯🌹 JazzyT.
She slayed
So sad what happened to her 😥 even sadder what people say about her still.
People in our society find humor in others pain it's a shame and sad. Hard drugs didn't kill her an eating disorder and alcohol did.
+Annette Her parents were to blame too. Eating disorder, drugs , and alcohol..not a good mix. She was so very talented!
+Lauren Walker you're basing that idea entirely off the documentary. Most professionals with experience working with people with addiction and mental health issues will tell you what happened with Amy is far more complex than her parents getting divorced. They obviously made mistakes, but I don't many who don't.

+SamanthaMumbaVEVO͘ what do you mean, she became more famous after her death
+SamanthaMumbaVEVO͘ Here's a amazing talented woman who took a lot of brutal hits in her
life and coped the only way she knew how. I'm not making excuses for
her...I'm just saying when you hear and see her perform you get a sense
of the incredible talent she had and deep pain she went through with
everyone taking from her life and not understanding or caring what was
in her mind and heart. I'm not a expert on A.W....in fact I didn't even
discover her music until after her death. But once I heard those pipes
of hers ...WOW it was instant love. Soon after I began to read about her
ups and down's in life and her struggle with addiction. How sad the
only way she knew how to ask for help was through her music. I wish she
could have gotten the help she wanted before she began to self medicate
and most of all I deeply regret I didn't get hip to her until after the
death...what a wonderful talent and wonderful lady

The song is ironic and sardonic anyway. It's awful how young she died but she was an aerolite personality and the clues are in the lyrics.
