This looks to be in incredible condition considering it's a KO from the 80s. You'd think barely any would exist now let alone being practically mint. Gawd I want one.
Well good luck cause this specific KO is in the same situation as the KO TrainBots in other words it’s still rare, expensive, and treasured by collectors.
It's retired now but i highly recommend tracking down the Lego Voltron set. I think it may be the best set Lego has ever made. It has 5 lions that combine and it's huge. A real achievement of toy engineering.
Voltron holds 2 special places in my heart. I remember as a kid seeing the toys in mt local "Toys by Roy" mall toy store. I knew I had to have one. I went to the counter with Voltron and asked the lady behind the counter, "How much does this cost?" She said, "$99.99." I started to tear up. I only had $35.00 in birthday money. She might as well have said $1000. I left the store saddened in the fact that there was no way I could afford him. That place in my heart, though sad at the time, taught me to understand the value of some toys and, later, the nostalgia of having a child dream toy. So one day what I could afford a Voltron, he was mine. The second special place was filled. Today, I no longer have that Voltron, but I still remember the fun of that incredibly simple yet fantastic toy. Great review of a fun trip down memory lane.
Sometimes I think about how Golion/Voltron has any kind of notoriety is due to it being (accidentally) picked as the giant robot show from Japan that most English speaking audiences cared about watching. (There was Shogun Warriors/Force Five before it, but I don't know how much an impact that had.)
Weirdly enough, I too had a Voltron toy, two actually, despite never seeing the cartoon. I had the transforming lions similar as shown today and a remote control non-transforming Voltron. My transforming Voltron was utterly shoddy, like a strong breeze could knock them apart
"The Deathblack Beastmen are chowing down on slave stew!" Actual line from the anime sub. Yes, slave stew as in beef stew or chicken stew. And then lions happen. Voltron is a skosh violent.
Fun fact, the US localization of Beast King Golion [as Voltron, of course] was handled here in St. Louis, MO, by World Events Productions/Koplar, which ran Channel 11 KPLR here until Nexstar Media bought them out.
I put in a preorder for a model kit of this and it's for almost the same reason, never had a childhood Voltron, I'm a young hip boy in his mid 20s, but I love a blocky lion man that turns into little lions.
But Gavin, you have to wait until the end of the combination to reveal the head and say, "And I'll form the head!" That's a fantastic find. I never had Voltron as a kid, but the cartoon was my first experience with anime. It was one of my favorite shows then. I did get the chance to play with that version of the toy back then. I'm not sure if the American version had all the missiles and lion blades. I just remember the sword and shield. Though, the actual owner could have lost them by the time they showed them off to me. Still, great video, dude.
Not sure if you are mocking this or not, but it really is incredible. I had the plastic version of the black lion as a kid but I always secretly wanted the blue lion. Unfortunately blue was taboo, because the original pilot went crazy and the second pilot was a princess which, as every young lad knows, is not a toy for boys to play with.
OH DAMN, when the box came off and there was that windowed inner display, MMMMMMMMMMMMMM. Peak toy packaging. I think I saw a box like this for King Dam Mustanger (Voltron, but motorcycles) and I about peed ma jeans.
HeMan jellies! That blast from my E-numbers and now illegal food colourings fuelled past had me reeling! I am convinced that kind of nutritionally bereft confectionary aided my now prodigious adult dexterity, as I had to learn how to peel the back off them and pop them out myself, so my parents would have. No idea how many of them I had actually eaten.
I'm pretty sure this is the very set i used to see all the time on the top shelf of my local corner shop way back when, and yes just like yourself i had no bloody clue what it was but By the Gods i wanted it!
Nice find and getting back part of your lost childhood. I remember the toy and didn't know anything about it. I just wanted the toy, took me years till I found one that I like Bandai Soul of Chogokin Voltron. Then a few years later Lego did one. I love Lego so a two for one.
old school KO sets like that are awesome, (usually) as solid as the official releases... a consideration on some tho-- I acquired a 6" Lion Voltron I learned later had been recalled for lead content in the paint, and of course you know all my robots go in my mouth 😂
I always likedthe Voltron toys. I had a neighbor who lent me the season 1 DVD (dude was in his 40's, at the time. Kinda regret it because I still have it, despite never finishing it, whoops!) But Voltron always was this cool interesting thing I'd never seen.
Great review! Honestly I had my three growing up too, mine would have been Getter G, Grendizer and She Ra, stuff that grabbed my heart as a kid despite me really knowing nothing about any of their fictions. Love reviews when we get to see this much passion, really adds something when the toy means so much to the person. Thanks for sharing.
Meow we're talikin'! I'd be lion if I said this video wasn't purrfect. Gavin really is the cat's pajamas of Transformers reviews or any other toy feLine. 🤫 And....i...umm, had a hairBall of a time...catastrophe....claws... 😔
So if you are going into the obscure How about a review for that bear with the shoulder cannons from the titans return sky shadow review Been waiting a little over year for it 😅
Once again, Gav shows that when it comes to reviewing obscure early-1980s knock-off lion toys, he's the mane man.
OH, YOU.

That is a really good KO of the original diecast Voltron figure. I'd kill to have something like this today.
Ebay $200

Can confirm. Watched a friend assemble it over a few nights. Gorgeous.

Golion >>>>>>>>> Voltron
Just sayin
The "Let's Go Lion" on the front of the box is extra nerdy/silly because Voltron was originally called Golion in Japan
OOOGH GAVIN! WHY HAVE YOU CURSED ME TO ALWAYS TALK LIKE THIS GAAVIN? WHY HAVE YOU DONE THIS TO ME GAAAVIN? MAY GOD DAMN YOU FOR YOUR SINS GAAAAVIN!

Once you GoLion, you never go back. I, for one, welcome this new era of All Voltron, All the Time TRDQ.
A beautiful toy reviewed by a beautiful man, well done sir, now back to my own dollies.
Weirdly enough, I too had a Voltron toy, two actually, despite never seeing the cartoon. I had the transforming lions similar as shown today and a remote control non-transforming Voltron.

I had the Trendmasters re-release of the original Voltron many years ago as a kid. I wish I still had it
Buying toys from forty years ago for the next forty.

* wipes away happy tears * that was beautiful Gavin ya big lug.
I still have my Matchbox die-cast Lion Force Voltron. It's seen better days but it just means it was loved.

Haha love it. Feels good to get some nostalgia 😂❤🎉 always love it and I’m glad your moving away from one plastic toy series to another hahaha 😂

I'm pretty sure Babies and Con Men are the two main transformers factions, even.
Great review!

I currently own the fortress of fangs and it's awesome
You should give it to me!
weird, just saw a dnd fortress of fangs at a local shop in my town
Voltron is a lovely design, I have the lego version
Go go lion
Now I want one too
Cool as fuck? AGREED.
I can't believe it's a knock-off. Ah, they don't make knock-offs like they used too...
Hello Gavin
Hello Lex
So if you are going into the obscure
How about a review for that bear with the shoulder cannons from the titans return sky shadow review
Been waiting a little over year for it 😅
Oh boy I’m first to view 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hope you'll have a good day
I was whacked in the head by the black lion when I was a kid 😵💫 it's diecast alright.
Where is your nostalgia gland located?
Vehicle Voltron is cooler, hehe
Forming the head at the start feels... _wrong_
It feels... great
No, Gavin.
That's how fairies die.
4:17 okay Gavin, now mention Bloodborne
Am I right in thinking not a single one of the Voltron lions has a mane?
That’s strange right?
You're thinking of gerbils.
@@TRDQ Oooh you’re right, my bad 😵💫
now why in the world is the red lion the left arm
It isn't
Voltron always felt underdeveloped to me. It just feels wrong that the individual lions don't each have their own robot modes.
Just uh, never watch any combining mecha that isn't transformers or braves in that case. Not many designs bother with it
I, for some reason had only the green lion and no known reason why...
Thanks as always, Gavin!!!
