Fun fact about Gone: he said in an interview that he does not remember recording that song, that he was on so many substances in the studio that he just freestyled the entire thing
The Birds Part 2 is the darkest and painful song I've ever heard. It's incredible how Abel uses a gunshot sound as the beat of the song and Valerie crying and sobbing at the beginning of the song before killing herself after Abel's rejection is something that leaves you unable to move, speechless and about to drown with your own sea of tears
the birds pt. 2 is one of my favorite songs on thursday. he's a bird, it's in his nature move on, to see other women. she's legit begging him not to, with a gun to her head, as he leaves. she is then finally out of love with him. she took her life, the only way to fall out of love with him. GORGEOUS. this song perfectly captures relationships in the present era, the madness of the weeknd considering valerie is a real person & the way people barely survive without their partner, no matter how cruel.
My interpretation of “I’ll be different, I think I’ll be different” on Rolling Stone is that he’s telling his fans he won’t sell out and will keep true to his sound. Then he admits when faced with the decision between a making a ton of money and staying true to himself, he hopes he’ll choose the money due to the less than desirable circumstances of his upbringing - “I hope I’m not different and I hope you’ll still listen” and “I’m in a life without a home so this recognitions not enough”. It’s really cool how Abel basically prophesied his own meteoric rise. I also thinks he’s done a better job than most artists to keep his core fan base happy.
Thursday is criminally underrated in the trilogy because it was a follow-up to the jaw dropping debut project that was HOB. Can’t wait to see you react to my personal favourite next, EOS ☺️
I love goin through these mixtapes w someone else and seeing their reaction. Personally, Heaven or Las Vegas is my favorite and I like how he recalled back to it in After hours w the theme. Keep up the great reactions, love the hair too! Also I’m so happy Coming Down grew on you :)
apparently ‘Gone’ was a total freestyle he did while super faded in the studio which would explain why it doesn’t necessarily fit in with the storyline
@@jcambriz5697 If u follow up the story of Thursday then, u'll understand why LIFE OF THE PARTY comes before THURSDAY. Lonely Star is the overview of the story Listeners get some ideas what the album is about then, the story starts with LIFE OF THE PARTY (as he is currently in a party getting high n abusing drugs with random girls) and ends with THE BIRDS PART 2. Just to let u know 😅
The remorse you’re looking for this storyline with Valerie is in the song Valerie(bonus track). Also you’ve got it right that she shot herself in the birds pt2, cuz that’s the only way she could stop loving him sadly. And gone is just a freestyle that he did while high af irl, but for the storyline it’s basically him getting high on drugs and all to mask the emotions, he does care(as seen in Valerie) but he doesn’t want to show it or admit it just yet.
Yes rolling stone is basically him talking to us and letting us know that he’s going to change. “I know I’ll be different, and I hope you’ll still listen”. “And baby love me, before they all love me” like we should enjoy the kind of music he made at the time before the change and he reaches a broader audience. He made a music video where he represents this. Also gone was just a long ass freestyle 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.
15:48 I'm so glad you said that, cause The zone for me is my favorite Weeknd track ever period. It just puts you in a lonely, empty void, a zone like no other (pun intended)
In the song Rolling Stone, Abel is using the girl as an analogy to address his old fans and asking them to not to leave him as he was getting mainstream attention. He literally predicted his success as his new music doesn't sound anything like the triology.
Fun Fact:The opening track, “Lonely Star,” begins with pitched-up vocals that were a source of speculation at the time. In a 2015 Pitchfork interview, the Toronto singer said that while the intro uses his voice, it’s heavily inspired by Lana Del Rey.“The whole monologue intro on ‘Lonely Star’ from Thursday-I just realized now that that’s Lana. That’s Lana’s voice,” said The Weeknd. “I mean, it’s my voice pitched up, but it’s her, it’s who she is.” As The Weeknd further explained, he and Del Rey had been friends for a long time and served as inspirations in each other’s music. “I feel like we’ve always been talking to each other through our music. She is the girl in my music, and I am the guy in her music,” he explained. “It’s just this ghostly collaboration that feels the most natural on [Beauty Behind the Madness].” In addition to inspiring each other, The Weeknd and Del Rey are frequent collaborators. Lana appears on “Prisoner” from his aforementioned 2015 album, Beauty Behind the Madness, as well as The Starboy cuts, “Party Monster” and “Stargirl Interlude.” The Weeknd returned the favor in 2017 on “Lust for Life.”
A stand alone track that I think should've made it into the trilogy series even just as a bonus was the song titled "Enemy". It didn't make it onto any of his projects but it still captures this darker period of his life. So maybe that could be included in your "bonus tracks" reaction. He's got a lot of stand alone promo's but this was one of the most cold-hearted imo.
BTW Rolling stone was a message to XO about him blowing up & moving on to the industry. At the time we ALL wanted him to stay lowkey and not be the pop star he is now. I.e "ill be different, They all love me, I hope im not different, Hope you will still listen" I remember when he dropped the video it was confirmed for the fans
Not a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday... You're really good at this btw. You say interesting things and phrase them in a way that encapsulates it.. even tho these tapes are a decade old.. the way you describe it sounds unique.
You can not understand how much I'm waiting for you to hear initiation. It's my favorite weeknd song out of all his discography, if you couldn't tell by my name and profile pic, haha.
baby get familiar with the order, just crack it, then pour it, then sip slow, then tip low, my eyes red but my brim low, that XO, she climbing.. straight to the top, forgetting why she there in the first place
In my head gone fits the placement and had a deeper meaning. He constantly expresses the complexity of his relationships especially with females and the type of love that is exchanged between them. As much he likes to see them come and go and is a pro at letting go he’s always wanted the type of profound passionate ‘true love’ from his perfect girl. And Valerie was willing to give him all her love in return for the same. He’s a bird so he can’t stay forever. She is desperately trying to get him to stay. Giving everything that she has. Anything she has left and he still won’t accept it. The only release for her and to also show him just how much she loved him was to kill herself because it’s better to be dead than be alive another day without him. All that passion and love or whatever is like a drug to him and now he’s on some other type level shit because it’s something he’s never had before. He’s hella high. He’s gone. In order to express just how gone he is he gets higher than a plane at this point. And as a result of him getting this high he just spits out this fire ass fucking freestyle song. Keep in mind I clearly came up with this while high.
as the weeknd is not only one of the best singers off all time but also so mysterious, its really nice to hear these commentaries on his old songs and understand him just a little better...great video 👏
Gone was basically him high and freestyling for the record label to convince them that he actually has talent for them to take him seriously and release Thursday.
Love your reaction to the music. Takes you away just like it does for myself, but if I could make you my lonely star I promise I’d love you everyday including Thursday. I hope to find someone that feels the depth of music like you do someday.
Even though Gone was pretty much a freestyle, I think it still fits the narrative. He just couldn't deal with what happened in Birds pt. 2 (whether she shot herself or him) and went back to his usual activities to numb the pain. His voice sound very painful there. Like, lirically he still tries to convince you and the girl that he's in control, but soundwise it seems like he's completely lost his mind.
The gunshot In The Birds pt. 2 is Valerie shooting the girl Abel cheated on her with. The one she mentiones in the line 'Let me fall out of love before you fuck her'. The same line he famously used years later in Call Out My Name but in a completely reversed situation with him begging and the girl leaving for another person. Enjoying your reactions can't wait for EoS
I really like your way of thinking and making theories by listening to the songs, I like moreover the way you listen to them: calm, placid, but it's clear that you are enjoing them. I'm going to wait you reaction to Echoes of silence!
Please, please do this for the EoS video: let XO/The Host play through into Initiation. They're technically two parts of the same song, and I really hope you can structure that one so you can experience that transition. I do understand what you've said in previous videos about going back later, but this one is so good and impeccably done!
There is a lot of unreleased Weeknd tracks out there on youtube that would be a great reaction. They are basically fully complete tracks just never slapped on a album. Some good ones are Enemy and Heavenly creatures. There is even a whole EP he never released that was leaked called the Noise EP. Lots of Weeknd material out there besides what’s published to review once your done with all the albums. Either way great review ;)
I like how right after Lonely Star you said it felt like you were in a crowded room rather than alone with him like on House Of Balloons. Then you figure out why 🤯😆 Love your reactions.
So In the Birds pt.1 and 2, my takeaway is him warning "Valerie" initially not to fall in love with someone like him bc it's going to end with her getting hurt.. she didn't listen and ended getting heart broken to the point I think she kills herself in the beginning of pt. 2. And pt. 2 was her pleading to him, let me fall out of love before you break my heart by sleeping with another woman. Instead, she suffers to the point of taking her own life. The birds symbolize Abel as being a free bird, unable to commit to one person/relationship. It is kinda fucked up like you said, but he did warn her🤷♂️
Thursday is easily the best. I love Lonely Star, The Birds Part 2 is my favorite song, and Rolling Stone is the best song by Abel with a guitar in it. For an 8 minute song, Gone is amazing. A lot of people like The Zone too, I personally don't but it's definitely a people pleaser.
i think the gunshot in the birds is another reference to drugs. it’s kinda like in the party & the after party when the gunshot is an innuendo to shooting up, i think just the drugs to feel or cope
Fun fact about Gone: he said in an interview that he does not remember recording that song, that he was on so many substances in the studio that he just freestyled the entire thing
That explains a lot😂
That's why he's gone
That makes a lot of sense it sounds like he was faded af the entire song lol plus it’s 8 minutes lmao
Same with the longer songs on hob. He said he was high and freestyling as well 😂 I assume with party and after party and again with glass table girls
on which interview?
Rolling stone is a mind trip when you realize he’s speaking to his fans and how he predicts his future success and sound change.
That plus same goes with the girl, hoping after his change, which he hope he doesn’t, when the mystery fades, will she still be there at the end
Yeah rolling stone feels like the prelude to kiss land in how he portrays he’s own fame.
@@Prodbyjah464 More like BBTM, Kissland didn't take off the way he thought so he went full mainstream after

In concerts back in time he used to perform an interlude, that too could've been an awesome track
I think Valerie kills Abel so that she can fall out of love.
the birds pt. 2 is one of my favorite songs on thursday. he's a bird, it's in his nature move on, to see other women. she's legit begging him not to, with a gun to her head, as he leaves. she is then finally out of love with him. she took her life, the only way to fall out of love with him. Very appropriate and a must
A must
Literally
i’ll never forget hearing the birds pt1 for the first time

The first weeknd song I ever heard was the birds pt 2 while on acid, been hooked since
Fell in love with Life of the Party the very first time i heard it. One of my favorites

The Birds pt.1 and 2 are just so fucking good.
Listening to Life of the Party is like a transcendental experience
Twenty eight and Valerie are arguably The Weeknd’s best songs. Till Dawn is great too. Crazy how those were just bonus tracks.
Listen to till dawn again and some more
The grass is always greener on the other side.
Wicked games still better imo

To your point about his vocals sounded buried on "Lonely Star", the Trilogy mix does a good job fixing that
Rolling stone is a letter to the fans and letting them know how his career will play out and he was right
Abel just freestyled "Gone" while he was high af ! So he was gone while making gone xD
