  • Hello lovelies, I have been collecting vintage cosmetics for a while now because I love the beautiful packaging. I thought it would be fun to make a video showing the vintage cosmetic packaging and compare it to the modern day packaging for skincare products you can still buy today. I decided to feature Olay and Avon for the video because there is so much beautiful vintage Olay and Avon available on eBay. I love the beautiful pink design of the classic Olay face cream and beauty fluid. I was able to find a bunch of the Avon products still available today including the original Avon Moisture-rich face cream from the 1950s that is available today. Let me know if you have tried any of these products and if you want me to continue with this series and feature other vintage beauty brands.

My mother said when my grandmother starting using Oil of Olay when it first came out her skin improved immensely. It was one of the few liquid moisturizers back then. It was mostly heavy creams that just sat on top of the skin until the 60s.

They do this for 25 cents a day so they can EAT!!!! Shameful and deplorable. I have written letters to Revlon and L'Oreal but no response yet.

Just found your channel. What memories! My Mother worked for Gimbels Dept. store (late 1940's) when she was young and sold cosmetics, etc. She avoided the sun and used Oil of Olay liquid everyday. When she was in her late 80's her skin was almost completely wrinkle free. She gave me my first bottle when I was in my late teens. I am now in my late 60's and I am told I look younger, in fact I usually have to prove my age for Senior discounts. I remember the brochure; still use some of those tricks.

My great-grandmother kept me supplied with Sweet Honesty back in the 70's. Her dresser was covered with Avon products from the 50's and 60's. Lots of it older than me since I was born in 1961. She bought me my first eyeshadow from Avon. It was a stack of little lipstick style tubes. I think 5 colors. Anyone else remember those? My grandmother used Olay and I started using it in the late 70's and still use it today. Love your videos even though they make me feel so old! Lol!

My mother sold Avon back in the 60's and she had that Rich Moisture Cream vanity jar sitting on her dresser for years. My favorite product of theirs was the Skin So Soft bath oil. We had some very harsh winters in the 70's and I loved how soft it made my skin, which always seemed to dry out in the winter time. I also liked a product they had which was a hand cream. It came in a jar and they called it "cream sachet" and these hand creams came in the regular Avon scents they had at the time, with the corresponding packaging. I'm going from memory but the scents I remember best were Here's My Heart, Occur!, Hawaiian White Ginger and Topaz. Those were all beautiful scents that I would love to find in original packaging now.

I love seeing the vintage cosmetics! I remember the glass bottles of Oil of Olay fluid. I still keep a bottle around. It is really good for the price and feels very light in hot, humid weather. I've used Silicone Glove. It's amazing if you have your hands in water a lot. The small jars of creme sachet were marketed more as perfume in creme form, not skin cream. They made excellent token gifts for people you wanted to remember with just a little something. The larger jars were/are marketed as a skin cream that is scented. One of your sachets, Cotillion, is one of the better older scents that I wish they would bring back. It was heavenly!

My mother has used oil of Olay since she was 15 , she's 64 now. And she only starting to get wrinkles and show her age about 3 years ago. She swears by the oil of Olay. I love how the packaging and jars looked back then. I wish our products today were all in pretty glass jars.

With the Olay I like the modern design but I like the fact that the vintage containers were made of glass.

I don’t know Margaret Merrill but I do know roses are named after important people so maybe she isn’t fictional. I’m 55 and remember these products! I remember the Avon lady making her house call with her blue Avon sample bag!! Mom loved Avon since she was a teen and I as well!

They used to sell makeup by Olay. It made my skin beautiful. Then they stopped it and combined it with c Covergirl , the effect was far from having the same effect.

In Australia back in the day Olay was called oil of Ulan then they changed it to oil of Olay then just Olay

Olay originated as Oil of Olay in 1949. It was created in South Africa by an ex-Unilever chemist from Durban, Graham Wulff, for his wife. Adverts were written as personal messages to the reader from a fictitious advice columnist named Margaret Merril. They ran in Reader’s Digest and newspapers and often looked like editorials (this was advertising to sell the product). In 1977 there was a rose named after the fictitious character (first the gentleman had to track down various Margaret Merrills for permission to complete naming the rose). Read more at: thisbugslife.com (Type: Oil of Olay in search bar to be taken to 2015 article).
