I've been slowly adding a show archive to the videos including a full transcript added as sub titles and a full track listing (with links to RUclips videos for each track). Mrs Mathews was a terrible fool!... Thank Heaven for the K man!! He's made So Many people smile and laugh even at our darkest moments... I think he's saved more people then penicillin! He Truly is a gift to humanity!... It's almost 20 years ago now, but it's STILL fresh and entertaining!... It's like Nothing else Ever! A True legend! He's my favorite thing in the world!! I HOPE he knows how much we all love him and how much he has helped and affected people... It's sad he's not doing any new stuff, but at the same time, like I said, even after All This Time, this old stuff is STILL so marvelously fresh and brilliant! I Know I'm not the only 1, but I Really love him!

I had the thought the other day … no one listens to past radio show episodes that won a Gold or Bronze at the Sonys … yet here we are, 20 years later and RGS has a cult following and most listeners know every story Karl and Steve have ever told. I literally listen to them 8 hours a day while I’m working
Especially as they just said not to say anything controversial this episode and within 2 minutes they've said one of the most offensive stories so far lol
I've always wondered if that was the voiceover work they were talking about :) even though the timing *really* doesn't add up. For a game that came out in 2011.
Jesse Miles given how long valve takes to develop games after they fucked HL it probably was. they say that the HL3 script is written and recorded and who knows how long they have been working on it
Probably took Steve that long to call up ALL the media companies, desperate to get in touch with them. He loves money for old rope. Better still, it was a woman on the phone ;P
I’ve been listening to these for about 10 years at bedtime and they never get old. The more I listen the more I appreciate Steve merchant. He gets overlooked but he is so witty and funny. I love how funny and intelligent ricky is and karl for just being his funny manc self with a head like a fuckin orange 🍊
There’s a great moment on one of these where Ricky is telling Karl not to swear on the radio or he will. So Ricky starts saying swear words and then Steve throws ‘tits’ in there like an excited teenager.
Interesting for me it’s the other way round, as I’ve gotten older I’ve noticed more and more how desperate he seems around women and how sensitive he is when he’s the butt of the joke especially in the early seasons
@@DumboSanchez Steve being desperate around women is literally part of his schtick. He even has a stand up special called "Hello, ladies" that centers around it. I dunno how people can listen to these and not pick up on how self aware Steve is.
This is a belting episode. There are so many iconic moments from compilations etc on this one episode. I’ve been looking for “is ‘craptic’ a word?” for months and months and months. There’s at least 6 moments I’ve heard that are pure comedy gold!

Psychologically it’s fascinating how similar the details are of the stories they tell more than once. I guess it goes back to their stand up days of memorising material, but the level of detail from ‘unless it’s Hong Kong calling’ to their reactions and counter reactions is extraordinary
I completely disagree. The differences in their retold versions of stories has always made me cringe and even made me angry sometimes because i realise that at least one version was rubbish.
How can Ricky say that Karl ‘doesn’t have a malicious bone in his body’?? Especially after how unbelievably rude Karl was to Robin in the pub! That was the height of bad manners.

Recently read "Time and Time Again" by Ben Elton. Pretty much exactly what Ricky talks about around the 16:30 mark. I wonder if he recently listened to this and decided to write the book... Great read btw

Nah. These were in the couple of years following their first major success with the original "The Office" (2002/2003). The original Portal didn't come out until 2007 and Portal 2 came out in 2011. At this point in time, beyond XFM Steven Merchant wasn't really known to the public like Ricky was. Ricky gained celebrity status for starring in their show, Steve had a few years of comfortable anonymity comparatively speaking due to staying behind the camera.

At this point in time, beyond XFM Steven Merchant wasn't really known to the public like Ricky was. Ricky gained celebrity status for starring in their show, Steve had a few years of comfortable anonymity comparatively speaking due to staying behind the camera.
