Hey guys, sorry for pinning this comment on all videos but I want to give you an update on the channel. I've been slowly adding a show archive to the videos including a full transcript added as sub titles and a full track listing (with links to RUclips videos for each track). Pilkipedia archive link has been added as well and I've been having fun illustrating some of KP's best bits, I'm adding these to a shop incase anyone is interested: www.man-moth.com/ It's taking me a while to update the archives, especially as I don't work Mondays so please bear with me as I chip away at it. Lots of love, Man Moth.
Much appreciated!

It's crazy that Karl was 30 here and I'm now 30, I started listening to these when I was 18 and have listened to them every year since.
Same haha, started listening when I was about 15, it's crazy but I've probably listened to them all over dozens of times by now.
I was about 18 too, now 28 and wondering where the times gone!
@@kdog5041Dozens? Rookie numbers 😂 25 here and must've listened to them 100 times
@@xXxWARvetxXx So funny, it's reached the point where every time hear a song from their playlist or 'songs of phrase' I"m teleported to the XFM show. I heard someone on the radio talking about Dan Hill the other day and all I could think was, "I'm sure Dan Hill was on everyone's lips"
Me too!!! I love that there’s so many of us ❤
Steve’s yelling “WHATT?” and Ricky in hysterics at the ripped tennis ball is up there in the annals of XFM history
Hands down my favorite story Karl has ever told, 2nd is Victoria plum
I've listened to these so many times that I'm thinking of going on Mastermind with these shows as my specialist subject.
great idea.
maybe we can arrange a Master Mind session between us fans?!
Mitch James I've thought about that many times. Think of all the brain space I've wasted memorising these radio shows
"You've not learned it though, you've just had it piped into your brain, easily directly and enjoyably" ...
"So what you askin' me?"
I literally have been thinking this for weeks then BAM, you beat me to it 😂😂
First installments of:
- Songs of Phrase
- Cheap as Chimps
- Cheeky Freak of the Week
First mention to Auntie Nora and the tennis ball.
The conversation about the little gay fellas at the urinals
This may be the best episode from all these shows.
I think the first episode, where they discover about Karl's upbringing. A horse in the house etc is the best imo
@Mattress Store that's my favorite one
First time listening to this episode whilst goin for a night time bushwalk, a good distraction from what could be out there 😂😂
I always thought it was cheapest chimps
@@WasteFacednah it's a play on words of the phrase "cheap as chips"
I can't believe how many times they play Feeder - come back around
+Echo Ellis ..and I keep thinking I'm listening to the same episode over and over again.........
...Sems they also play Feeder's "Just The Way I'm Feeling" a lot.
Ricky only likes like 5 bands
think a lot of these songs were forced on them by xfm. saw a 2002/03 xfm compilation disc in a charity shop recently and it had black rebel motorcycle club, turin brakes, feeder, doves, placebo and all of that shit on on there. all the older stuff was probably picked by ricky and steve tho
+Jay Allen aha that may be true, but feeder aint one of them :p
"Crush grapes" I've heard it at least 10 times and I still die laughing
+James Edwards "crush grapes m8"
No better way to shut the world out & forget all your worries than listening to these whilst laying in bed all tucked up snug
Been listening for years now
not in óne go, I hope? :P
Steve is on point in this episode. Quick-witted, hilarious, and so sarcastic toward Karl. He's usually my favorite member of the three, anyway, but he shines in this episode.
👌
ya bang out of order first of all
frarfarf he was though the cheeky bastard😂
The gap of silence right after Karl just declared "Cheap as chimps!" Made me laugh so hard out loud
...You see everything...
The delivery of this line from Karl is perfect
49.03 "He never forgets Rick" Probably produces one of the best Ricky laughs from the series....
Dean Davis yes indeed. This one is amazing.
Dean Davis and Karl has literally 0 reaction.
And one of Steve's best bits...!
a : 49:03
"Crush grapes."
(Ricky does an air horn impression.)
This has got to be one of the best episodes. The cat on the belly, the tennis ball, so much gold.
Think of that!! a well known phrase from the show, “the cat on the belly”
Every time the “Chinese” part in Songs of Phrase comes on, I honestly can’t help burst out laughing 😂
Genius
The "kid" bit gets me 😂
Love these and listened repeatedly for 5 years! Smerch is a genius and is so quick.
Alan Dodd same for 3 years!
"You give him a bun and he forgets it "
"....he never forgets, Rick."
Steve is just the wittiest of the 3. Comedy genius. I love the one in the previous episode when Gervais mentioned the Cabin Crew in first class covered him in a blanket then says "oh I didn't wear a suit, I just had tracksuits on" and Merchant goes "well that's why she covered you up" 🤣
"He never forgets, Rick" definitely Steve's greatest xfm moment!
16:04 It's ''ripped tennis ball'' the first time Karl says it. In all episodes after they call it 'split tennis ball'. But think about it. Ripped is sooo much more graphic than split.
oh god, you're right :s
A tennis ball torn asunder
Milan Smidt and 90 others dirty little fffffff
@milan Thank you. 💜🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"I think I've seen his brother". LMAO
That line "And you see everything!" Straight from this to Extras with Patrick Stewart. This episode could have been called "Spilt Tennis Ball".
The outtakes of him trying to film that are the best ever
I was in hospital for a few months just before I turned 19, got told about Karl by a friend and these shows kept me sane throughout that time. I'm 31 now and still listen every night
Omg Duck in a microwave ~~~ BILL WITHERS thats obscenely ridiculous 😂
God bless you Man Moth
Steve's "Mmhmm" at 55:35 is one of the funniest things I'd never heard before as I go through these. It's brilliant.
I was thinking Karl's sceptical "hmmm" after Ricky's "they're emptying their bladder".
If this was on the air in 2020 there would be so much outrage hahaha
Ricky would go even more all in, then.
Wow. 20 years ago today. I’d have been 9 years old, just a little fella. Now here I am, approximately Karl’s age at date of recording. Mad world tho innit
so many of the best bits are from this episode
These help my anxiety
"And pretend to be a lesbian..."
Man he's quick...
I was dying after that one 😂
Steve's "he never fogets" comment made me laugh so hard, everyone bus turned around to see whether I was okay xD!! Best comment of the show!
16:05 The way Smerch says whaaat cracks me up every time.
I'm sure 15:12 is the origin of Patrick Stewart's "I've seen everything" from Extras.
I was thinking the exact same thing!
it is interesting hearing bits from these shows that became material for Extras and even The Office. At some point Steve brings up the idea of someone getting caught wanking with a nudey pen, and they do the gaylords thing on Karl that I think appears in the Office finale.
@@kitpalmer1583 Ricky's stand up is just a series of things Karl has said.
@@kitpalmer1583 yeah and Steve's TV situation, almost word for word
Some people listen to these before going to sleep but I have a Sunday morning ritual of smoking weed and having morning tea while listening for an hour or two. Great way to start the day!
what an earth would we do without Mr pilkington brightening up our day. and of course Ricky's infectious laugh
It's funny that Karl is paranoid about a gay guy looking at his junk when he himself has said many times that with nudists and the co-ed stripper story he had a "little cheeky glance" at the men's bits!
"if you're uncomfortable staring a knob in the face, something's wrong with you."
Because he has no sexual desire for knob, so it's like a doctor looking at a knob.
+iamhim Yes, Karl is very much like a doctor
like a lot of people who are ever so slightly homophobic, there's more than a hint of projection, isn't there?
Joy Woffindin he has also perused a gay magazine
Personally I think this is THE best show of all xfm stuff. So many amazing bits and intros to features, so many of the quips and statements that we all know are in this one show. If you ever want to introduce a friend to these three, get them to listen to this....
I like how Ricky is giving out to Karl for time off and yet he and Steve had been off for two weeks in a row the previous few weeks
They view karl like how we view pets. But with less respect. Thats why i appreciate moaning of life more than idiot abroad. Its pure untainted karl 😂
Yeah, they were WORKIN’! They went to America - they were WORKIN’! 😡🤬😡
@@greglynch391 Oh shut up!
@@greglynch391 I thought of this as soon as I read the original comment haha
They went to America to talk to Steve Carrell for the The Office remake. May be not Steve Carell, but the producers of The Office US.
Why is this not called "Ripped tennis ball"?
I think another one is down the line
"This cat that was dead violent, the most violent sort of angry cat I have ever.."
"A tiger?"
"Honestly Steve, if it was bigger it would have been." 😂😂😂😂
20:30 - "If I put you in a room and there was 10 naked men, right? And er could yo...there was 5 gay men and 5 hetro...could you walk along that line looking at thos gay.." "Am I naked?" "No you don't have to be naked, why would you have to be naked?" "To catch 'em out." xD
30:35 Stephen Merchant pretending to vomit is one of the best moments 😂😂😂😂
20:40 "To catch 'em out." Possibly the funniest thing Karl has said?
I love 28:36 - Ricky's instant recall of Karl's friend Colin Makin,
like the chemistry and quick wit shines through in these shows but the beating heart is how much Ricki really does love and pay attention to Karl.
Man moth your a legend!!! Thanks so much.
Alan Dodd Very welcome :-)
Alan Dodd you're
ur*
Listening to this walking along the canal during shutdown - when he said he was sick I burst out laughing everyone looking at me 😂😂😂 Karl is my hero
no RamPack.
49:00 Possibly the best line Smerch has ever said.
frankieaglow He’s as sharp as a tack, bless him!
I like it when he says "Karl, I treat your girlfriend better than you and I've only met her twice."
Drop your trousers.
Mechant ís quite good at quick comedy quips. He's a good example of some basic tálent you have to have to be in comedy. Seeing this is (allegedly :p ) unscripted, he's very often lightning fast with good lines.
43:23 Ricky's laugh at "Crush grapes" gives the effect of him shooting high up into the air out of his chair.
Just like Bill the lizard from Alice in wonderland
This is one of the finest episodes. Crying!
At 15.18 Karl says 'and you see everything', I bet that inspired the Patrick Stewart scene in Extras
He never forgets, rick. Dyno
One of my favourite lines from the whole xfm career!
It's little quick bits of hilarity like that, makes these shows a constant stream of gold.
Theeeere's this haaaari CHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESE KID!
I almost fell over in the shower when he said ripped tennis ball
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
These are too dangerous for the shower XD If I was listening to these eps in the shower, people would be so concerned by the consistent bruising on my body that they'd probably question it as domestic abuse!
Same with driving while listening to these shows! I can barely stay on the road from laughing so hard!
40:00 I've listened to these so many times and never noticed Ricky's silly Bill Withers joke 😅
Same I just heard it a month ago!!
"Yeah but..." is just one of the most genius comedic moments of all time, and it's completely accidental. It only exists because Karl is truly an incompetent, anti-romantic, little skinflint.
This one is legendary! As soon as Steve mentions the quiz I'm thinking ooooh yes, here we go...
Having the gender toilet discussion before anyone else.
Karl ahead of it time, as always
@@ChimozuFu he is a prophet
N Milner clue: Chinese flu - first letter: C
the way ricky says "bisexuals" at 19:02 always makes me laugh
'They could shave their head grow a moustache''And pretend to be a lesbian'.That's my favourite XFM moment so good
I'm a lesbian and even I laughed tbh
Big butch Sandra with the hooped earrings, wears Doc Martens wholesale.
"Famine Academy". Fucking brilliant. I have to say, I am a fan of coming up with the name based on a pun then working out the premise later.
I don't know how held it together in the first bit of the show, Ricky absolutely going for him!!
A ripper tennis ball!!😂
Still gets me.
Please change the title to "Ripped Tennis Ball."
I agree - that would be hilarious
Deffinitely!
yearly reminder that the title should be "Ripped Tennis Ball"
3 day reminder that the title should definitely be 'Ripped tennis ball.'
Weekly reminder to change it to Ripped Tennis Ball
No matter how many times I hear Karl's clues, I always forget them and groan when I hear the answer.
More amazing work, Man Moth!! Thank you from Australia!!
should be called Ripped Tennis Ball, what a perfect description.
One of the best episodes
Definitely my favourite moments of all the shows is when Karl and Steve rip it out of eachother.
Ricky's laugh at 43:25 is everything. Omfg 😂
20:44 is pretty good too... sounds like a popped tire losing air.
Taylor TM 49:03 too!
Taylor TM - ha ha HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I love the slow clap aswell
Is it a laugh, or the sound of him shooting up out of his chair into the sky?
"Ya see everything"
eardrum bursting laugh from Ricky. lol
This is the episode where Ricky really turns on Karl and pretty much doesn't let up ever again! 😂😂
"...making the growture..."
fea
Karl’s “I’ve seen everything” is like what Patrick Stewart says in Extras
i love that he thinks that someone put the cat on his belly to keep him down as apposed to it just climbing on him
sammich3000 it wouldn't surprise me, after hearing about where he grew up...
This is one of my favorite episodes
Steve's absolute disbelief at "Cheap as Chimps" gets me every time.
Ohhhh Steve...
13:14 “Karl I could do that here, I wouldn’t have to lose a tenner” 😂
The way Karl finishes off his violent cat paperweight anecdote with "that's not normal, is it?" just gets me every time.
The amount of self-awareness behind it, as if he's just then realising how outright fucking weird his childhood was.
If he told all this to a therapist.. man alive!
I genuinely think this is my favourite episode, it’s not got the best features but the links alone are some of the most memorable comedic moments from all 3
These guys are like free prozac without the side affects.
This is in the top 3 if not best ever episodes.
I can't stop hearing "chimp" instead of "kid" in Songs Of Phrase
he never forgets Rick is still smerch's best line from all the shows
I imagine runner up for title of episode was "Crush grapes". Bless you Man Moth.
Have you seen your hands? You’re a grape crusher mate
“The Film Thing” Lol greatest segment title ever
52:54 - "You haven't seen my Village People album lying around, have you?"
best episode by far !!!!
so glad I'm listening to these now as opposed to listening to this on the radio in the car driving. If I was hearing this on the radio whilst I'm driving, I would be swerving all over the place and I would need to pull over laughing too much, I wouldn't be able to concentrate on driving.
Karl posting up 'freaks' on Ricky's website without him knowing.
“He never forgets, Rick” has me dying
I can’t believe how much younger they are than me when I first started listening to these
I listen to these at night thanks so much for them all you're fucking awesome for uploading them all (:
“To catch em out” 😂😂😂 20:49 that’s best bit hahaha
13:50 "buttplugs and amyl nitrate"
that comment killed me
Ricky howling in the background during Billy Elliot hahahahahaha
It looked “Like a ripped tennis ball” might be one of the most hilarious creative descriptions ever.
🍇 43:24 😂
'just sick' gets me everytime...
Love steves and Karl's argument about the quiz team
A FUCKING DRAFT EXCLUDER
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
