I really appreciate that you not only post success stories but also when something failed. I'm totally new and still reading and watching videos. I read that you must take care with raisins and especially when you buy fruits with are prepacked. They add many other products with it.

Been patiently waiting your results in hopes of a far better turnout than ours. I commend you for taking the experiment even a bit further. Thanks for recording both your successes and well, not so successes. Great job. Looking forward to your next challenge. Cheers!

It,s not just you my friend. I watched four videos read a couple recipes and they all said things like, no watermelon flavor or essence, smelled like cucumbers, etc. With the exception of running it again and then adding a watermelon essence which some good ones online sugar free, i wouldn't buy watermelons for making anything other than enjoying on a hot day. Bananas, are inexpensive and amazing flavors. Keep up the good work. It's a great hobby for sure! tom

Can't be a failure if (a) you warn the world not to make the same mistake and (b) you have a decent quantity of near 100% alc you can now flavour any way you want. What's so special about watermelon anyway...

I do a stripping run , and a spirit run and add a doubler on the spirit run to infuse with more watermelon flavor I fill the doubler with the pulp which I reserved from making the wash and added about 2 liters of spring water to pulp . My wash recipe also calls for the juice of 8 limes.

Thanks for sharing this experience. One question and that is where did you get that hose holder on your pot still and what is it called?

From my understanding one can extract more flavor from a properly run Pot Still but at the same time less ABV than the Reflux set up

Yes, exactly Ken.... If you can imagine, in the boiler there is a certain amount of alcohol + flavor water. Running a pot still gets all the alcohol and also adds some flavored water also get through thus giving you a tasty but weakened ABV from the flavored water) brew.
A reflux column is specifically designed to not weaken the ABV with water and flavor.

Try cutting down to 80 proof. Let it sit for a month then try it.
