I live on Long Island NY and have done over 200 miles on the beach (both south and north shore) with my Beast which I received back in august. It works and rides great on the beach but there are some guidelines I recommend. 1) You need to air down to 5 psi on an ocean beach ( i use 7 psi on bay and sound beaches where the sand is a little harder. 2) you need to use a tide chart and time the rides during low tide. Do not ride in salt water, keep the bike dry and it doesnt get that dirty. The only parts that get sandy are the drivetrain but i use Finishline Ebike lube and its somewhat dry and keeps a lot of the sand off the chain. 3) the Beast has more wind surface than a sailboat.... if given a choice ride downwind on the beach its makes a big difference.
I aired down to 8 psi because the pressure range on the Minion is 8-20, but I imagine 5 psi would be no problem. It was still quite challenging on the very soft sand, but I attribute much of that to my lack of speed. Our beaches frequently have small water crossings, so staying dry altogether is quite challenging, and the primary reason I got nailed by the wave was me trying to give the people and their dogs plenty of room. Admittedly, I took my eye off the surf to watch for dogs or people darting toward the water as people frequently throw balls for their dogs. I generally use ATB Lube or Triflow for my drivetrain. Thanks for the feedback! 👍🏻
@@twowheeltim For small water crossings I lift the bike from the back and push the front wheel through the water, A bulk of the bikes weight is towards the front because of the batteries and i find the back is relatively light to lift. This keeps most of the shit that will rust from rusting.
Hi where did you buy your new tires from? I have the same bike in gold color. I've had my Ultera beast 2 for about 6 weeks. I've already had a flat tire on the rear. I live up by Portland Or. I mostly ride in and around the city and forest roads. I'm starting to feel more comfortable riding the beast. It's a bit big frame wise for me.
I ordered them from Amazon, as I couldn't buy them directly from Vee Tire Company. I also bought Tuffy tire liners from Amazon. Thank you. To wash the bike I used a garden hose and gently ran water over all the sandy areas while covering the openings in the frame and the small gaps around the battery with a towel. Then I took a towel rinsed in fresh water and wiped down the entire bike. Finally, I took a dry towel and dried the bike. I removed the wheels to clean them and the drivetrain individually. The entire ride used 65% of the battery, and I think that was because so much torque was needed over the sand. I use Strava on my Apple Watch and iPhone for all the detailed stats, but I recently added an older Garmin 530 with GPS I had lying around so I can link it to the Relive app to create these quick realtime topo maps of my rides. At some point I may add those to videos in some way.
I just realized you may have been asking about the onscreen stats like speed? That actually comes from enabling GPS on my GoPro and downloading the videos through the GoPro app. Lately my GoPro Hero 5 has been losing the GPS signal, which is why some clips don't have the stats, and some clips have the speedometer frozen. I recently bought a Hero 10 and plan to start incorporating multiple angles when possible.
👍👍👍 great bike, great video brother
Thank you. I really appreciate the support!
FUN!!
It was, but the cleanup sucked. 😆
@@twowheeltim Oh that saltwater would scare the hell out of me. You bike looks great!!
It did me, too, but everything came out fine thankfully.

It is pretty amazing just how much weight comes from the batteries, as to be expected. What's your longest distance on a single charge?
Wish I could buy 1 but won't deliver 2 Edinburgh Scotland 😕 😪 😞
That's a bummer!

@@twowheeltim Thanks for the help.
cool video. How did you wash the bike? And how much battery did you use in this trip? Also, which software are you using to display the ride stats?

Watched it with no sound music was to much..
Well, I appreciate you watching, though. 👍🏻
