37 Days in Hell: The CZU August Lightning Complex Fires
I know this is 2yr old but for a 48v lithium ion battery charging voltage should be 54.6 max. voltage shown is for lifepo
Great. But in this way, 2 times more energy is lost and the charging time takes twice as much
I'd be interested to know the battery voltage at the ride's end.
Unfortunately, I didn't check.
@@twowheeltim - Hey brother, I do enjoy your videos. My I suggest setting your display to voltage rather than a percentage as it's far my accurate. (my Biktrix read 100% for a week until I checked the voltage which was at 53.x volts). Safe travels.
Riding in sandals is probably not a good idea. Also, how big was the pinecone that you dropped the bike?
Elaine is a pretty conservative rider, so the sandals were no big deal. I had on low top hiking shoes. The pinecones in that area get pretty big. The one I hit was around the size of a large grapefruit. Although, had I been paying attention and not filming with one hand and riding with the other, 1) I would have likely avoided it, or 2) been able to ride through it. Because I was careless, however, I chose option 3, I ignored it while riding one-handed and crashed. 🤣 I only had a few minor scrapes, though, so I was lucky.
I liked your video. I think you should take the feedback about the music volume to heart and not take any offense. Yeah, there’s a mute button, but we want to hear you! You should be happy to hear that.
Nice video, thank you. I recently purchased a used e-bike that is very good quality durable e-bike not your average cheap ones, however the previous owner did not take care of it and it was used every day for food deliveries.. first thing I noticed is that one of the spokes were missing! I replaced it myself, and after a short time another one broke off, so I replace that also... I wasn't sure if this was an issue with my particular bike because it has over 8,000 miles, but judging from your video it seems to be a common acutance and part of owning an e-bike if you riding it regularly?! I wonder if there is a better solution to this!
@@yash_ar Thank you for the positive feedback! 👍🏻 Breaking spokes isn't really exclusive to ebikes. Wheel truing on any quality bike/ebike is something that should be done with an annual tuneup. But spokes will start breaking more frequently over time. The only real way to combat this is to have the wheel rebuilt when it gets to a point that you're breaking spokes every couple hundred miles. Of course, there are so many variables that contribute to wheel wear and tear: bike weight, rider weight, terrain, wheel and spoke quality (or lack of), etc. A key thing to remember is that using good quality spokes is important, and understanding spoke tension and keeping wheels true will prolong spoke life. I suck at truing wheels, so I always leave it to the pros! 😆
@@twowheeltim Thank you for the info, I'm new to bike mechanics and maintenance, but thanks to RUclips one can literally do anything now a days!! just need to be persistent and be patient. I watched a fantastic video posted by, Grin Technologies called "How To Lace a Hub Motor at Home Like a Pro", it's got to be the best lacing and truing tutorial video on RUclips by an old pro who does nothing but build wheels at their shop, check it out.
I have 48v 25amp battery can this work for me
Absolutely. 👍🏻
Hi.what the max watt and curent the panel give you?
Here are the specs: 200w 11A, 48V-72V adjustable controller
@@twowheeltim thanks
great review, been meaning to buy this
I'm little late to the game but which 12mm axle is it? There's like 8 different ones listed. I just got this trailer for my beast with the 16 wheel kit. Just need the right axle Edit: pausing at right moment is seems it's m12x1.5 but in 197mm. They don't make a 197mm?
I bought mine back in 2021 for $54.99 (still have the receipt 🙂), and at that time Burley sold the thru axle in a 12x1.5, 197mm. But you also needed the Thru Axle Flat Spacer for an additional $1.00. It looks like now they have a 172-178mm that includes the flat spacer for $59.99, but you likely wouldn't need the spacer. The only other option I see is the 229mm, which would be way too long because the threads would extend well beyond the threads in the drop out.
@@twowheeltim Appreciate the response. I felt like the 178 would be too short so I was able to find a 197 new in box on ebay. Thanks
Volts dont matter. Its amps when charging. Go from 2 to 4 amps and your charging time is cut in half.
I use a Sportsman 4 stroke 1000 watt generator with my Talaria Sting R and I have unlimited miles !!!
Can't hear you over the music.
Sorry. Audio levels can vary depending on the type of device on which you're watching, and also the device's speakers and EQ settings. I'll admit that the audio level of the music in this video is probably a little higher than a lot of my later videos because this video is over 2 years old and along the way I learned to keep the music level in the range of -12 to -18 decibels depending on the track. With that said, I'm not a professional, not sponsored by anyone other than my own bank account, and provide content as a courtesy to those seeking information they may not find easily. I can only control what I can control, which excludes what people can and can't appreciate. ✌🏻
@@twowheeltimthis is the better response to the same comment. Baffling, should have just saved this one to paste later, lol
I know, but the not-so-friendly response to the other commenter about the volume level was because the person was kind of trolling my videos and leaving curt comments over and over. I guess I just got tired of it. There are just those kind of people out there, and it gets tiresome when you spend a lot of time, money, and other resources to make content only to get trolled by some people. I'm not monetized nor sponsored, so my only incentive is to help people out. 🤷🏼♂️
I have an e-trike, 1000W, 48V, 12A, but $900 is more than I have in the bike, hub motor and wheel, and four 12V lead acid batteries. Where's the economics?
It's obviously a subjective topic. If one plans to travel by ebike and camp along the way, this is a possible option to recharge during a day at the campsite. It's a lighter option than carrying a power bank like a 1500w Jackery.
Oh, that’s AU prices, so 75% of that in US dollars I guess?
Lol, to funny!
I remember those days vividly. I lived in Morgan Hill at the time, I remember just waking up and looking out my window seeing all the lightning around the area and just KNEW there would be fires. There was one day the winds shifted I believe from the CZU fire, I was at work and looked out the doors to see that at 10am our parking lot lights were on and the sky was clouded over in black smoke clouds and with the sun shining through it turned the creepiest shade of blood red. I'll never forget having to help a co-worker evacuate from the SCU fire, thankfully which they were able to return days later with no harm or threat to their home. My heart still pours out to those whom lost their homes.
Hey, Tim with your trailer you are pulling with the beast 2. How did you connect to the rear of the bike? I'm considering getting a trailer for my FS Pro 3. And do some longer rides at a few days at a time rides.
The Burley trailer has a hitch that attaches to the rear axle, but it doesn't fit the Beast's stock thru-axle. I had to buy the Burley thru-axle and install it on the Beast in order to attach the hitch. I did a video on it, and here's a link: ruclips.net/video/NZICKlqZ3EU/видео.htmlsi=kbAALq6-PAVVCjqj
@@twowheeltim Thanks, Tim.
Great videos Have you ever rode with just one battery? Also do you know if you can or not
Thank you! You can ride with one battery, and I have just to try it out, but I don't really like to because it exposes the battery connections and I live in a foggy, salty, ocean climate. Biktrix ran a sale on batteries a couple years ago, so I bought a third battery that I rotate in so that I always have a fresh backup. Although, I hadn't purchased the third battery yet when I did the ride in this video.
😁😁😁
RV rated for up to two bikes as well.
1-up redesigned the super duty rack 4/24, and the rack will now carry 100 lbs for each of 2 trays. More space between the bikes, and up to 5" tires with no spacer kit needed. Also, one handed release buttons to remove the bikes. Check them out, a bit pricey, but worth it for the heavy e-bikes.
That's good to know, and thanks for sharing. I hope some of my feedback to them helped the redesign because the original design was definitely not eBike-friendly for bikes pushing the original weight limits. 👍🏻
Thanks for posting this video. I am using the same bike rack but I do use a ratchet strap around both bikes to limit unwanted movement. It shouldn't be necessary but it's a cheap fix and easy enough to use so overall I am happy with the rack.
have you rode on the kenda 26 x4 wonder difference
I haven't ridden Kendas on the ebike. Only the stock Maxxis Minions and the Vee Speedsters. Sorry.
Hi, am i right thinking that I could use the jackery 1500 to charge a 60v, 1404wh, 23.4ah ebike battery...but couldnt use a smaller jackery? I also have a 52v, 28ah battery for a different bike. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated😁🙏
The 1500 would work just fine. Anything smaller and you're just looking at something to keep the battery topped off. I also have a Jackery 500 and it only charges about 30% before it starts to run out of juice.
Damn, only 75lbs per tray.
There are two types of people. One is ordinary another is amazing people like you.
That's very nice! Thank you so much.
Hi Tim, I ended up getting the Biktrix Ultra Eagle 2.0 and loving it all the way. I wouldn't mind getting a handlebar with more rise and an adjustable stem but I'm not sure the cables are long enough to get that done. Any thoughts? I'm a little more hunched over than I would like for long rides. I might have to check with Biktrix. Also wanted to ask you about your motor, have you opened it up and checked the grease or cleaned and re-greased yet? There are a lot of videos that say they are nearly void of any grease when people open them up so I do worry a bit.
Congratulations! That's great, and I'm glad you're loving it. I've always been a cyclist and am quite used to a slightly stretched geometry due to riding road bikes. I've seen a lot of people comment on and buy those Biktrix A-Bars, but those are way too extreme for me. With those bars, you would very likely need to change out all your cables. If I were to look for something slightly higher, I'd start with a fairly traditional riser bar that you should be able to find at any bike shop, but definitely on Amazon. I would just want to be able to feel the height and width before I purchased them. Depending on how high of a riser bar you get, you may not need to change out your cables. I know on my Ultra Beast 2 there is plenty of cable to rise about another 2 inches. And often times small adjustments like that make the difference you need. As far as the motor, I did pop the cover off at around 900 miles to check it out after hitting some water, and it looked fine. I'm at about 1,200 miles now, but I have yet to clean and repack the motor. It's still running great and it never feels like it's overheating.
can you list all of the stuff you have used please
Sure. Bakcou 200 watt solar panel with charge controller EcoFlow Delta Mini to fully charge both my ebike batteries from 35% to 100% Jackery Explorer 500 to top off four ebike batteries from 90% to 100% while camping Jackery Explorer 1500 to fully charge both batteries on my ebike from a 20% charge to a 100% charge
Thanks for the review. Do these puncture easily
My pleasure! I've flatted 3 times in the 2 1/2 years since I installed these tires, and all 3 times it was the rear tire. Given my weight, the weight of the ebike, and just how notorious my area is for glass and other debris in the bike lanes and on paths, that's a great ratio in my opinion. Also, none of the 3 flats were caused by glass. It has always been a type of thicker nail, like a fence post nail or roofing nail. Thus, I'd say comparatively speaking, no, they don't puncture easily. I hope that helps. 👍🏻
@@twowheeltim thanks friend
A very informative review. Thanks for taking the time. Question for you: I've spent a couple weeks now doing the extra research you suggest to find a carrier that will accommodate my two 70 pound fat-tired ebikes and be approved for RV motorhome and towed vehicle use. The availability of a ramp woul be nice too. That narrows it down to only a few that I could find, the 1 up being one of them. Most of the others mentioned below in the comments don't meet my criteria. Have you found any that might fit the bill for me in my circumstance?
I'm glad you found this helpful. Unfortunately, I personally have not found another rack that quite fits the bill. To be completely honest, if I could do it all over again I would have researched dual-motorcycle hitch racks on Amazon. The downside is that you would need to use tie-down straps to secure them, but when the rack arm started to bend on my 1-Up I needed to use my tie-down straps ANYWAY! 😆 If the eBikes are big enough, and it sounds like yours are, tie-down straps are no big deal. And the good thing about motorcycle racks and Amazon are the price and return policy. If you're doing long RV trips, this could be a more secure alternative for you both physically and emotionally? 🤷🏼♂️ Best wishes!
Have you tried using the DC barrel jack to charge the bike?
I've used it on my girlfriend's Juggernaut Hub Duo and it works great.
@twowheeltim I tried to use the barrel jack on EcoFlow River 2 Pro to charge my Lectric, and didn't get an output reading. I don't think the EcoFlow's DC Barrel Jacks put out enough voltage to be able to do it. I'm glad you found one that did! DC to DC charging is so much more efficient.
That's a bummer. I actually made this video about 2 years ago and have tried the Bakcou solar panel to charge, and the Jackery 1500 to charge, since this video. They've all worked, but they're all so heavy and cost so much for strong enough output. People have suggested building a solar panel setup with charge controller and how much cheaper it is, but quite honestly I'm not that technically savvy and really don't have the time to go down that road. 🤷🏼♂️
@twowheeltim I'm sure I could buy a voltage converter and make it work... but I'm charging my bike via solar either way, so the efficiency of DC to DC charging isn't really needed. I might as well just stick with the charger that came with the bike.
Do they have Override technology? Recommendations for other 26x3.5 street tires with puncture resistant technology? Thank you!
The Vee Speedsters do not, but the Vee Zig Zag tires have it. The Zig Zags have a different tread pattern and are a bit smoother for pavement.
@@twowheeltim Thank you!
🥰🥰👍👍👍
Hard to hear you with music in background.
🤷🏼♂️
@@twowheeltimwell, that’s one response to feedback, Tim….
With all the extra homemade attachments and aesthetics of the rack at this price, I think 1-UP needs to take lessons from Apple. Not for me.
🤣
I can't disagree with you! 👍🏻
Great
Good job, a very interesting subject, keep us informed with any mor similar planet saving tech. SkipRay, Kerry, Ireland.
Thank you. Cheers!!
The bikes being that close together is a real disappointment and seems like a major design flaw. Just space it out another inch or 2!
The outermost tray is slightly higher, but not enough to prevent potential rubbing. Even one more inch would make a difference, but I suppose it would reduce the overall weight capacity slightly? Either way, and as I mentioned, I had bias toward 1-Up because they're great for regular bikes 50 lbs or less. I was definitely a bit disappointed and wish I would have shopped around a bit more. Live and learn, I guess. 🤷🏼♂️
Are you happy with this part of your project. It looks good I want that setup. 😊, help me out yah. 😊
I'm pretty happy with the setup. I wish the solar panels were a little lighter, they weigh about 17 lbs, but it's not really an issue. Not sure what I can do to help you out, though. Bakcou refused to give me a discount, a discount code to give to viewers, or allow me to be in their ambassador program. 🤷🏼♂️ They basically took advantage of my free advertising, but I still wanted to share the experience with my viewers so they could explore options.
@@twowheeltim It’s cool yeah, Just stay cool with everyone no matter if they support you or not.Try not to burn 🔥 bridges works out better for you in the end.
Just out of curiosity how tall are you. I see you have the seat post way up, that’s how mine is as well on my himiway zebra. How comfortable are you on this bike. Thanks.
I'm 6'-1" with a 34" inseam. I'd actually like to be able to raise the seatpost a bit higher, but it's pretty much maxed out. I have a Cane Creek Thudbuster short travel seatpost, and they don't come any longer. I considered longer crank arms, but they're already 175mm. I'm really comfortable on it and have no problems going on long rides, so I'm good with it. We just did 50.5 miles this past Sunday with no problem. The Ultra Beast 2 is a pretty massive ebike and weighs in at about 92 lbs with both batteries installed. So in reality, any higher on the seatpost would make dismounting a bit challenging.
Stop crying that you didn't get a disount. Beggar.
Did you damage the rear fender with the rack, even with the pool noodle?
No damage, but I realized the pool noodle wasn't the best idea because it was a bit too bulky and started bunching up under the pressure and movement. Over time, it likely would have worn through and damaged the fender. Therefore, I went ahead and ordered the version from 1-Up because they designed it pretty well and it doesn't wear through.
@@twowheeltim great to know. Thank you!
Using 16" wheel/tires is such a "downgrade" on a mini-trailer, that the benefit of using 20" wheels/tires would be obvious. Dang.
Is that solar controller measuring the input or output current?
It actually measures both.
Hey Tim, now that you've had this charging system for a while, what would you do differently today? Going to invest in a ULTRA FS Pro dual next spring for off road adventures so I'm tryin to dial in my overall costs for this to be efficient and fast. I think the cargo trailer you reviewed does it for me to be able to carry a solar system and a possible ECOFLOW DELTA 2 if I can swing it.
The Backou is nice because of its size and the fact that it can plug directly into the ebike's charging port. It's really best for riding and camping. If I'm actually camping and bringing the ebikes along, however, my Jackery 1500 is by far my favorite option. The downside is that it runs about 36 lbs not accounting for at least one solar panel (about 15 lbs each). I really like my Ecoflow Delta Mini at around 24 lbs, but it's only 852wh. The Delta 2 definitely provides more charging power and is only about 27 lbs. I also like that Ecoflow has the smart phone app you can sync up, but it's only good if you can connect the power bank to wifi. Ecoflow's solar panels are a couple pounds heavier and a little more cumbersome than Jackery's, but Ecoflow is a great choice. For me, I love my Jackery 1500, but mostly because I've purchased four different options now and it gives the most watt hours at 1544. I also have a Jackery 500, but it's really only good for simple top-offs from about 80-85%.
@@twowheeltim Thx for the quick reply Tim! The Backou sounds like the wat to go. Thinking about just buying a 3rd battery instead of Ecoflow to save money. I can buy the battery bank later. at least this way I can leave both batteries at camp charging during the days I'm out on the mountain and don't need a range extender. Having 2 full batteries in the morning when it time to leave home should do it. I can always charge the 3rd batt from the solar panels while riding home if needed anyway. Cheers
I actually had just arrived home from work and the notice of your comment popped up, so a quick reply was easy. 😆 I bought a 3rd battery from Biktrix late last year when they were running a special on batteries. Hopefully they do it again this year. 🤞🏼 I like the Bakcou, and upon request they even threw in a barrel plug adapter for Elaine's Hub Duo; my Ultra Beast 2 has a 3-prong plug for charging. Not sure what type of plug the FS Pro has... Best if luck in your decision! I'm confident you'll be stoked!! 👍🏻
Oh. My beast came with a G510 Bafang. I guess similar motor then the M620 I clocked over 3000 miles this year. I'm now owner of 3 ebikes. I like the beast the best
Do you mean a Frey Beast, rather than the Biktrix? (The Frey Beast comes with a Bafang m620 motor & integrated motor controller set up for 60V.)
Oh, & g510 _is_ m620: one refers to the motor itself, the other refers to the integrated motor+controller combo.
@@prophetzarquon Biktrix Beast 2
@@prophetzarquon I've replaced the chainring to a 48 tooth on the beast 2. And I will be carrying a 3rd battery with me. Biktrix are selling those batteries for $599 now. I don't think they sell the Beast 2 any longer.
@@bergmanst Nice. I went with the Frey (AM1000 v5) because it's full suspension & good components, with one 1KWh battery. I see a lot of Biktrix ebikes though & they're pretty great! The m620 is one of the very best ebike motors out there
Have you ever tried charging while riding?
No. The location of the charge port on the ebike would interfere with pedaling. Although, my ebike has dual batteries and I also have an extra battery, so charging an extra battery in my cargo trailer while riding is very feasible.
Great for remote charging. Fyi it costs about 4cents of electricity to charge a battery from 0 to 100%
My video wasn't to promote solar charging in lieu of charging with electricity. It was to explore the option of solar charging on an ebike camping trip where electricity is not an option. 👍🏻
Looking to upgrade my two 2016 Radrovers to Himiway cobra or cobra pro. Looking to upgrade from my Saris SuperClamp4 Freedom to 1Up; but, the Himiway ebikes are pushing 80-90lbs. Might have to look for a motorcycle rack?
I like the 1-Up, but the wheel braces are just so thin. Are those weights with or without the batteries? My Ultra Beast 2 is 76 lbs without the batteries, so I definitely remove them before loading up.
@@twowheeltim I'm leaning towards the QuikrStuff Mach 2 Bike Rack with the extra click-on attachment for 2 or 3 +70lbs ebikes. The single bike rack can hold 120lbs, the double can hold 240lbs, and 300lbs for the triple. That would more than enough for my ebikes and I don't have to remove anything (battery, suspension seat, rack bag, or panniers)
I looked it up and it looks kind of similar to the 1-Up Super Duty. The 1-Up Super Duty says it will hold up to 240 lbs, but I found that the individual limits per tray are what's truly important. The rack and trays themselves are very solid and stable. It's the wheel bracket arms that are questionable. Since there are similarities, I would recommend doing some research to see if you can find reviews or comments on the stability of the wheel bracket arms when pushing the weight limits. I took 1-Up's 240 lb limit at face value and feel like it's just a marketing angle. I hope the Quikrstuff isn't doing the same. Best of luck. Feel free to post updates for any comment readers! 👍🏻
I have a Hollywood rack and it’s starting to bend and fail in three points with little use. It’s also a huge hassle to load the bikes.
The 1-Up rack is nice with the loading tray, but as you saw the loading tray and rack have their own set of issues. 🙁
