Nice 1 Garry 👍 nice to see your oldman helping you
Cheers for doing this video, I need to check the tensioner on my fzs600 and this video gives me an idea on what to do.
You should be turning the crank anti-clockwise on this engine as the tensioner is on the rear, essentially away from the tensioner. You could be crunching a valve when you rotate it clockwise as the piston will move slightly before the valves temporarily as the tension shifts to the other side of the chain. I don’t think that’s a cam chain noise, sounds like bearings possibly.
The old fellas got a lot of knowledge Gaz must be great to be able to tap into that... Keep it up you guys love the videos 🇬🇧🇬🇧🏁🏁
Cheers bud 👍🏻
thank you so much i was trying to figure out my 2006 fz6 tensioner.
Cheers 👍🏻
You guys are the best!! Thanks a million for making these videos and sharing your knowledge of bikes. I'm in the USA riding 2003 Thundercat and 2002 FZ1.
Cheers Nice bikes 👍🏻
It work well both of you on one video loving the content
Good to see you smiling, keep busy, who was the visitor, ha ha
I' think your were turning the engine over the wrong direction? You allways pull the cams direct from the crankshaft. You pulling the cams via the tensioner will push against the tensioner. The only way the spring can push the tensioner out is when the chain is slack, ie when the crank pushes the chain up to the cam instead of pulling against the cam if that makes sense
Cheers bud 👍🏻
Probably the reason why i avoided four strokes for years!! Stick at it Gary you'll crack it in the end. 👍
Cheers bud 👍🏻
Good video. Just a heads up when turning the engine over after refitting the tensioner you need to turn it anti clockwise. This take up the chain slack on the tensioner side. May make no difference but worth a go. Have you run it up to working temperature? They sometimes run quiet when hot. You can also find that sometimes the tensioner is 'between notches' on the ratchet. A bit more wear in the chain and it clicks forward and goes quiet. Same issues are present on the 600 Fazer whose engine is more or less the same as this one. Might be worth checking the valve clearance as well. Look forward to part 2.
Cheers Colin hopefully back on it tomorrow 👍🏻
Usually there are dowel pins holding the oil pump drive gear to the back of the clutch basket. Replace said pin with appropriate size pin to reduce play in the gear back and forth. I'd advise the matching size drill bit and taking the ready made rolled pin shaped end off it, or an Allen key rounded off to fit. Hope this helps -
Cheers David 👍🏻
You guys should form a stand-up team!
sherlock butler investigates nice one boys
You do know that you are turning the engine backwards which will tension the run on side you are trying to adjust. Also you should have the engine in a specified position ie where the run of chain that you are adjusting has no tension on it. There will be a mark on the flywheel somewhere. What you could do is get the engine at that position turng the engine in the normal direction of rotation, take the springs out and put a piece of rod into the housing gently by hand and see if it moves just one notch more!
Great to see both you working together you will get it sorted if you can't no one can 👍👍👍👍
👍🏻👍🏻
Nice to see good team work looking forward to you finding the rattle
Cheers nev
It's always annoying trying to find a rattle. Keep at it am sure you will get to the bottom of it. 👍
Cheers Ali back on it tomorrow 👍🏻
Cheers Ali back on it tomorrow 👌
Nice Gary. I know you probably checked but if the cam chain Tensioner was stuck about half way we were always taught to still check the cam chain and if the bike has been stood to check rubber seal cover washers in the transmission if fitted as they can go hard and cause a knock on vibration effect. Yam has had CCT issues on a number of models. Trouble with noises they play on you psychologicaly and you always here them. Good luck anyway Gary love these Bike vids.
Cheers Paul don't think it is cam noise back on it tomorrow hopefully 👍🏻
in this order, new choke cable (if it has one).
New clutch cable.
New throttle cable.
check the head gasket for any wear.
check your air intake is tight and actually making a vacuum.
CLEAN YOUR CARBS!
balance the carbs, especially if you don't have stock exhaust can.
cam chain.
cam chain tensioner.
if you have done all of this and still getting noise or bogging, check the valve clearance.
something will definitely be off somewhere...
while you're doing the valve clearance, get your valves serviced BY A PROFESSIONAL as valves are extremely delicate.
if after all that your bike still ain't running right, ya may need a new clutch
Am sure you will sort it , keep em coming mate 👍
Cheers mate
My old gpz550 sounded like a bag of spanners untill I did a balanced the carbs, I know it was not fully warmed up but it was a bit fluffy when you blipped the throttle, crack on 👍
That because we had the air box of bud 👍🏻
Hi Gary,
Pity it wasn't a success. Worth a try though. Nice to see Dad happy and still passing on his hard earned knowledge.
I don't want to be one of those twats chiming in with their crap but just a tip from an engine man.
You were turning the engine the wrong way for what you were looking for. Anti-clockwise (@left side) pulls all the slack out of the chain down and round towards the tensioner. Clockwise as you did is actually pulling slack tight against the adjuster and stops the plunger from coming out.
Cheers bud I didn't realise there was a right way as I heard it click when I turned itand when we took it back out it was adjusted. 👍🏻
Try pulling the clutchin when the engine is running. If the noise goesor reduces significantly, then you have a clutch basket rattle the same as a 600 Diversion.Made between 1995 and 2001.The only vid that shows how to fix that,is a German one.Just search for Diversion clutch rattle.Easy fix, just a pain to strip the clutch out.Happy Hunting.
Cheers bud il check it out 👍🏻
I’m sure you’ll find the rattle, I thought that the guy turned up was a Yamaha team mechanic to sort the problem! But then realised it was your other boy! the body and respray tech! 👍
👍🏻👍🏻
Maybe front sprocket possibly or not sure if spark plug gapping could do that or values
Good video again, maybe carb balance would be worth checking, inspect clutch?? Maybe have word with your local bike shop ,the guy you mentioned on the moped vid??
Cheers Matthew we are having another look today 👍🏻
Unbelievable🙄😂👍🏼
Noisy clutch?
have you removed the trencher bolt and spring put a screwdriver in the hole and push see if it clicks
Yes bud
Have i tried pressing the clutch in to see if it shuts it up.. the rattle not soppy lol 😆
😂 Back on it tomorrow hopefully 👍🏻
@@ProjectMan that was only a joke i think ur dads awesome, i miss mine loads and we had a strong relationship like u pair 👍
Cheers stu 👊
yea i was thinking the same
my guess is that rattle is the springs on the back of the clutch basket worn , you should hear my race slipper on my r1 race bike lol ps hold the clutch in then rev
Cheers bud we are back on it tomorrow hopefully 👍🏻
Have you tried it with clutch lever pulled in Maybe clutch or gearbox related like old man said. But to be honest it's probably just an old rattler like a lot of old bike are send you mad looking for the cause good luck.
We are back on it tomorrow hopefully 👍🏻
Hey Gary thank feck soppys abit happier in your vid bit grumpy in his one lol as you probably gathered lol
He has every right to be. All the jobsworths around.
@@paulwood7798 lighten up fella it was a joke you if you read comments on previous vids you would see that ffs none offence taken
Another good vid pal ure sound doesn’t seem to solve as stable as ure dads vids for some reason as looks like ure both using the same brand mic for making them
good band genesis.....
They we're.....and didn't they always have some bloke at the back shaking a 'rattle' ??
Any chance its tappet noise, dont know if they adjust by spanner or they are bucket and shims, maybe worth checking ,great content as usual
Cheers bud hopefully back on it tomorrow 👍🏻
Bucket and shims. Cams need to come out to change the shims . But fairly easy to do, and shins are a common size.
Worn out timing chain possibly
Just a thought...does pulling in the clutch make any difference. Some old bikes can have a bit rattle in neutral. Lol not like a dry clutch but you know where I'm coming from.
I have a listen tomorrow 👍🏻
Take the starter gears out and run it again
Hi Garry, does the sound go away when the clutch is pulled in ? I was thinking it could be something clutch related.
Having a look tomorrow Scott 👍🏻
@@ProjectMan look forward to the video 👍👍
have you checked it ant the clutch or the clutch basket ?
Video out Saturday 👍🏻
Hay Martin is that a Casio watch you’re wearing?
I believe it is 👍🏻
Engine first than gearbox after .it looks like it is going to be expensive repair anyway😂
Cost nothing just need adjustment.
Balance the carbs !
Did your dad say that Jimmy has a channel as well?
No bud 👍🏻
Who is that little annoying old man it the video lol 😂 😂😂😂😂
🤷♂️😂
Your videos are of great help and motivation!! I have just saved a 2008 xj900P from the scrapyards. As where I am based no one uses or wants an old bike there are no Pvt shops who would want to work on such and the dealerships doesn't touch the retired bikes!! I might need your advice on an issue which might be quite a bit for this space. If willing, could you kindly share your email or phone number so maybe I can bother you in detail ;-). Thanks from Dubai!!
