I am rebuilding my entire fzs600 '03 engine in order to repalce the cam chain (+other stuff while it's wide open :p )
I thought about an open cam chain but I am very afraid of the rivets pop out while I'm riding.
    Thnaks for the video man.
    Ride safe.

If I had the tools and a lift I would have done a bottom end rebuild as well and fitted an endless chain but this seemed like a happy compromise. When I rev the engine up high I do have the worry that the rivet would pop out but lots of the experienced guys on the forum have been running a rivetted chain for years with no problems. Plus I'm really a cautious rider. I rarely go above 9000 rpm. The bike is far more capable than i will ever be.
Good luck with your build pal, id love to see some videos of it.

I am in need of doing this job what did you need to take off/out to get to the cam cover and how did you put the new chain on?

Yea not my best video I’m afraid, nowhere near as detailed as I could’ve made it. Anyway, to do the job you best take a look at the workshop manual, free online: www.journey.cz/moto/navody/Yamaha%20Fazer%20FZS600%20'98%20Service%20Manual.pdf

Good job! I have the same issue on my FZS. Removed the tensioner and it was all the way down. What’s your mileage? I have 33k miles on mine. Cheers!

Mines at 49000 km. I'm gonna go out for the first run today. I'm anxious that the rivets on the chain will just give out and destroy the engine but I'm sure it will be fine. The trickiest part was getting the dots lined up with TDC on the crankshaft

Thanks! Mine has 52000 km to be precise. The rivets play a role of a transverse lock, the actual force applies longitudinally to the chain, so no worries. I have removed my valve cover yesterday and my camshafts are way off the marks. I suspect my exhaust camshaft may have jumped a tooth. This is the best video so far on Yamaha FZS 600 cam chain replacement. Keep it up!

Hi like the video thanks for posting, do you have more video of the camchain being put into the bike please. Thanks

G Mac sorry I wasn't able to video that part. It takes 2 hands and then there's nothing left to hold the camera. I just turned the engine over by hand on the crankshaft and fed the new chain through while it was attached to the old one with wire. The hardest part was lining up the dots on the cam shafts with TDC on the crankshaft.

Hi Dan thanks for that, was it a 130 link open end chain you used ? Also can it be done without removing camshafts etc ?
