- The latest release from Canadian Club is a whisky made from 100% rye grain. How does it fare?
Thanks to Canadian Club for the sample. As always, my thoughts and opinions are my own.
Canadian Club sourced this 100% Rye from Alberta Distillers Ltd. The same as Masterson's 10 Rye, Whistle Pig, Jefferson's 10 yr rye and Lock, Stock and Barrel 13 yr rye to name a few.
Shame that they don't bottle their own rye (Alberta Premium) in Canada at a higher proof.
Cheers
I adore this whiskey as a daily sipper to warm me up during the cold Canadian winters. You should check out anything from Forty Creek you can get your hands one, they are an amazing Canadian distillery as well.
This Whisky makes me proud to be Canadian. It's a pretty good product at a great price.
It certainly is. Cheers!
Agreed
Glad you reviewed this. Agree with your assessment. Great underrated spirit. I'm more of a scotch guy, but I find this very enjoyable.
Tastes good for 17 bucks but light finish. Needs to be 90 proof
I LIKE it !!! Great spice kick right from the start ...stunning finish !!..and the price here in Canada is well under $30 !!
I was looking for a more intro level rye when I picked this up. It was excellent and I prefer it to some others I have tried. Just bought some to add a rye for a party and it was not selling well here probably because it is CC. So I picked it up for $11.99(USD) their loss. Everyone should give it a try.
My go to for cocktails, yet also an enjoyable sipper. I think this whiskey punch way above it's price-point.
They call this Chairman's Select in Canada. It has the best rye bite of the other high% rye in Canada(Alberta Premium, Lot 40, CR Northern Harvest). I drink this whisky with ginger-ale.
I'm from Kentucky and I love it...
Now, that's saying something. I just bought this because my local store marked it down to $11.99! The aroma is very caramel. I wanted to look online before I tasted, because I didn't want the price to affect my palate.
I drink it mixed its my favorite basic whiskey as its cheap here in Canada, it is really smooth but flavorful
absolutely 100%
I’m jealous of your bottle : cooler shape in my opinion and you have a cork! (It’s a little different in Canada..!)
very smooth, finishes fast.
A smooth sipping rye not bad for the price I like it
So Alberta Premium is the same a Canadian Club 100percent Rye???? (AP is cheaper to buy)
Hey Bobby, thanks for taking a look at this Rye. Would you say it'd be a good ingredient for a whisky cocktail? Or is Canadian Club's standard offering a better option for mixing?
I'd Drink That This one would give you a bit of a spicier cocktail with more character versus the standard Canadian Club. Hope that helps.
Definitely! Thanks Bobby.
I mix it with Coke ....MM MMM MMMM
I've found that it makes a great Old Fashioned. It's also a good one to mix with Coke (I only say that because the time I mixed it with Coke, it was just what I had, and I'm sure the standard CC bottle would have tasted pretty much the same). For the price point, you can't really go wrong.
I think I will give this a try. Gluten problems have stopped me from having whisky so I'm hoping 100% rye will be easy on the stomach.
I know it's 3 years later but gluten is a protein, not volatile, there's no gluten in distilled spirits.
I'll let you in on a little, 100% true secret.
All it is, is Alberta Premium with food coloring to make it darker.
As Alberta Premium has a stigma of being a "cheap" whiskey.
But it is one of the best out there.
How do you know this, and can you prove it? I ask because I've definitely shied away from Alberta Premium in the past, and I really like this one. In fact, on my last trip to the LCBO, I got a 1.14 ml bottle of CC 100% rye to re-stock my bar. I'm gonna feel ripped off if I find out that I could have spent just a little more and gotten a 1.75ml of the same whiskey.
@@colina1330 taste them side by side.
All the proof you need
all I drink is CC
Cool. What’s your favorite product from them ?
This is my go-to whisky. I just wish I knew the nutritional information (carbs/fats/proteins/sugars/etc.) so I can manage my weight & health a bit better when I choose to indulge. Can anybody help with the nutritional information?
And please spare me the *nobody drinks alcohol for nutrition* spiel. Thanks Captain Obvious, but some of us still want to know what the damage is as we're drinking. I count calories. I count carbs. I count proteins & sugars, etc
I guess until I can get a straight answer, I'll have to input Crown Royal's whisky information. Apparently they're the only ones to give up this nutritional information when it comes to whisky.
i hear ya!!! drink it in a hot totty. the cinnamon will help your body absorb the sugar and you wont get an insulin spike. thats my 'healthy whiskey' lmao! would be nice to know the nutritional values though. cheers MFR!!!!
