"We made a car with no rear window wiper, and we heard your complaints about not being able to see a bloody thing, so now we've installed a camera and a display in the rear view mirror! All this for only £50 grand!"
Why can't we just have a goddamn wiper and save £1,000?
lol, this is a company that prioritizes design over everything else. Beautiful car.
I think it's interesting that the solution for no rear wiper was to implement a rear view camera with and output display incorporated into a two-way mirror type screen embedded into the rear view mirror. Instead of like, adding a rear wiper for instance...
Somewhat amusingly, the Bolt has been doing this for years (though on their Premier trims, granted), and still gives you a rear wiper and camera sprays.
Wonder what Hyundai's and Kia's aversion is to a rear wiper on their flagship EVs is when the Kona/Niro have them. Aesthetics? Aero? Saving a few bucks?
@@hoobidibahbidibah8119 but ioniq 5 N will have the rear-wiper. hatch-back without rear wiper is a really strange design concept, and so ugly.
The lengths they've gone to, to avoid using a rear wiper. Madness. Maybe I'm getting old but new cars are not as good as older models. Way too much needless technology.
@@ZandaKristy they've gone forward in some ways and backwards in others. They deserve to pay for their arrogance.
How about this? Cameras help in many other ways.
Drove this recently from London to Italy and back. Super comfortable and fun.
Of course they took stuff away from when it first launched too. Some safety systems were removed, the automatic pop out door handles got removed from all but the top spec and V2L is now an option where previously it was standard.
From what I've read I think V2L is always capable of every one of the IONIQ 5s, but the adapter is additional. I thought that was always the case though?
Getting one as company car .. it just so happened that the guy who ordered it left so it was available.. it’s £30 a month tax compared to £250 odd for my 1.5 VW Golf .. no brainier 💪
You pay 250 a month for road tax?
I understand the original didn’t have wireless Apple CarPlay and only had USB-A outlets. Has there been an update to this?
“A lot of new tough competitors emerging…”
:: shows a picture of the BZ4X ::
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I forgot what car it was (A Lexus or Acura SUV of some sort) I saw recently that had a wiper deploy DOWNWARD from the same sort of top spoiler the IONIQ 5 has, making it invisible when not in use. So, if the IONIQ 5's lack of rear spoiler is a design choice, why don't they just do THAT?
I really wish Hyundai made a hybrid version. Still not ready for battery anxiety.
Get over that anxiety, I've owned an EV for 3 years and when my lease is up I'm getting another EV. Charging is fast on public chargers, 99.9% of charging is done on my drive very cheap.
Hyundai is really impressive recently they’ve upped their game big time in design, quality and features across all their cars. Only thing going for Tesla is their software and AI.
"Only thing going for Tesla is their software and AI"... and superior specs for the price (range, acceleration, etc). And superior software is a BIG deal. I'm super excited that other manufacturers are catching up to Tesla, but I'm not convinced any of them give you the as much value for your $ yet.
Got an awd ultimate, best money we've ever spent, awesome car
I drive this exact car and it’s been a pleasure
From the moment the Ioniq 5 went on sale, I looked at it with great interest. What put me off then and now is; (1) the high price (2) the hopeless colour choice. What we need are cheaper EV's.... Not more expensive ones.
There’s a whole bunch of cheaper EVS. The Kona is a chunk cheaper, range of options from cheap to high end is surely a good thing?
I’ve owned one for more than a year. The worst things are the stupid non-pop out door handles and no rear wiper.
I got as far as filling out the order form. But then they told me delivery time was at least 12 months, so my number one criterion became "one that's already been built". I would have liked one of these so much more than the id3i ended up with. Maybe next time ....
@@johnmckay1423 Definitely agree.... the wait times were pathetic / rediculous. I went from Hyundai to VW... But got seriously messed about with on wait times.
In the temporary situation (whilst waiting) I got a lease EV. However, today I drove the new MG5 and it is both excellent quality and available.
@@mikadavies660 I had insane luck and got my EV6 after 4 months this March. Couldn't be happier.
The camera is going to get dirty before the window does. Or does the camera has a cleaning system?
In my opinion even much precious. I love this design, shaper.
Why do you keep comparing this to the Model 3 when the Model Y is the car in the same class?
Well they did include the Model Y when they were comparing pricing even though they only mentioned the Model 3 before that. Somewhat deceptive.
What would make it "even better" would be for it to be much more affordable, too much money for most, means low volumes and doesn't push on the drive for adoption of zero emissions vehicles.
shouldn't have left the EU 🥰
@@Kurre. same price as Sweden, what's brexit got to do with it?
@Adrian Carey it's 20 000 kr (1400£) more in the UK and is less equipped for that price... winter tyres and free charging in winter are also standard here ❤️
Very rarely you would charge at home from 0-100%. ABC.. so please I would like to see a little comment when you quote those charging times that you don’t wait until empty, but ABC, so you would plug it in when you get home, maybe every 2-3 days when at 40-50% (depending on daily mileage/needs), which obviously reduce charging times and convenience. We need to educate non EV drivers…
Plug in every time you get home, always ready to roll💪
These are UK updates; most of these features were already available in S Korea or other markets.
Hyundai's progression, as seen from my POV:
1992: Ha ha ha ha haaaaa!!! I wouldn't drive that junk if it was free!
2002: Yeah, I suppose they're okay, but I'd still rather not
2012: Hyundai? Yeah, I'd consider them
2017: I need a new car and the Hyundai IX35 is a real contender (as is the Kia Sportage, but that's another, very similar, story)
2022: Jesus wept, fifty grand? That's more than my first house! I'd definitely have one, but I just can't afford it...
Et tu brut?
Maybe buy the i10, punk?
You're not wrong. In 1990 or 1991 I was shopping used cars. I compared a 1 year old Hyundai with some factory warranty remaining, or a 3 year old Toyota with high miles. The Toyota was 25% more money, but a drive test felt solid and reliable, unlike the Hyundai which was full of rattles, squeeks and loose steering. I bought the Toyota and it served me well for nearly 100,000 more miles until a tree fell on it.
50 grand for a house? Ok boomer
Why not buy the i10?
I got one today love it
One of the best interrior: spacious for legs and seats are reclining in its best
Like the way you skip over the major downgrade they have made removing the front wing sensors thus downgrading from hda2.0 to hda1.5
Hence why I've had a ev6 on order for the past year, but keeping one eye on the ioniq 6.
I for one think rear wipers look cool.
I must admit, it is great car. However, I would not recommend it to no one.
I have bought one Ioniq5 on PCP on September 2021 and car was very good until wind screen crack. Since I have reported it to insurance on the beginning of June I had to wait until and of September because there was no windscreen in UK, and it was “back order”. Fortunately, I was able to drive it. But the real problems were ahead 😪😩. Just before Christmas 2022 on board charger got broken, car was taken to main dealer. I was told that they haven't got parts on shelf because it's back order and I must wait. After two months and two weeks I finally had message from the dealer that they will get the part next week and get the car fixed for me. I was very excited that I'm going to get my car back after two months and two weeks. I forgotten to mention but, in the meantime, they provided me with BMW series one petrol. From the same beginning I told them that I prefer electric cars, but they don't care. However, I was very patient, and I was looking forward to getting my car back. Unfortunately, when the onboard charger arrived at the dealer, they realise they need other parts, and those parts are also on backorder so now it looks like I might not have a car for 5 months.
After all that experience with the dealer and lack of the parts for the car they selling I decided to stay away from Hyundai I once and for all and to spread the word to other people not to make the same mistake and become the victim of this dealer. However, if you decided to buy one of those electric Hyundai's I wish you a lot of luck I hope nothing gets broken otherwise you might need to wait long time before you see your car again.
That display, though superior to the "monitor slapped on" look, it's still a separate looking thing and jutting up. I'd really prefer a more embedded look. I suspect that will be more ubiquitous in a few years as they refine things.
As a Model 3 driver I think you have wrongly evaluated the "monitor slapped on" look. I have found , in virtually every car I've ever driven, the exact problem he talked about in this video: the steering wheel blocks out a good portion of the display. That never happens with the center mounted console in my M3, and I love it.
The model 3 better interior quality? You serious?
Yeah. I can't believe that.
Chinese-built models seem to be really good.
See latest model 3
I cannot for the life of me figure out why they did not change the screen surrounds to black when they had the chance 😂 The white is just the most awful design choice.
It works well in real life, far nicer than everything being dark which can get quite oppressive
@@sparkylarry no 😅
@@sparkylarry Would you rather all car interiors glow in the dark?
I agree. It stands out where it shouldn’t plus it does a poor job integrating both screens.
One should ideally get a choice.
I own an ioniq5. Its a great car! No rear wiper is the defo the biggest gripe with the car. Most of the other things mentioned in the video are very minor.
Isn’t that a bit unsafe?
@@AutomaticDuck300 Its far from ideal. On a dry clear day its not an issue. Its those wet dark evenings when a rear wiper would be very helpful. I wouldn't say its unsafe, but it mean you have to double check before maneuvering.
Do you realise that uk models driving forward can show rear view from rear camera on central screen with one push on the park button second from left?
I never thought about using the reversing camera when during normal driving i'll give it a go. The fact the new updated model will have a rear wiper shows they made a mistake not including one.
and at those purchasing prices you will be paying the enhanced rate of yearly vehicle tax for the next 5 years.
Only if you buy after 2025
No rear windscreen wiper...why 🤷♂️
Having lived with the I5 for the past 6 months, I think the only improvements it needs are , a rear window wiper ( the rear vision in any weather other than sunshine is dire) headlight washers and wireless apple play. Bigger battery capacity and charging improvements always welcome too.
Oops, forgot pop out door handles or at least backlit when trying to open the doors in the dark.
@@metube9541 when i was young people could find the doorhandles, even in the dark...
@@Coen80 haha, same here, but they weren’t flush and hidden away.
The worst thing about these cars is the absurd holes under the dash where you’re meant to put your knees. If you’re tall it isn’t great.
Got an ioniq 5. and the worst which is in my mind is that the rear window has no whipers, when it’s raining i see nothing back there
This is a problem with many Hyundai cars not just the ioniq. No idea why they don’t put rear window wipers 🤷🏼♂️
Good review👍 Missing a rear wiper
Wow, It’s the first time I hear about the missing rear wiper. I live in Canada, that’s a deal breaker for me.
I own one. No wiper is not the end of the world but it’s an inconvenience.
Busyforks is an I5 competitor? I don't think so!
5:02 Did he just say the model 3 is similar amount of money? What? Where I am in Canada the model 3 starts at more then 10k more then the ioniq 5
I love my ionic 5 - The only 2 elements that need changing are. Add a rear wiper, and Put the Speed in the centre of the screen. Not part of this update! Real shame.
does projection screen solve the speed displaying?
18 month review guys. Beautiful car to drive and to look at. Very comfortable and classy cabin. However I would strongly advise to avoid at all costs. Mine already has had an ICC replacement and multiple electronic failures. It's been back to the dealer multiple times and has caused nothing but frustration and inconvenience. Tbh, I was surprised given all the awards and postive reviews. However, just take a look at the online forums and you'll see the litany of faults and problems with the Ioniq 5. In over 30 years of motoring I've never had such a poor experience with any vehicle. And I'm one of many, many people. Do yourself a favour and avoid at all costs.
The sheer cost of these vehicles. OMG 😳
This is a premium vehicle. You can get an MG4 for nearly half the cost of this.
@@joshbridges8410 still wouldn’t call £26k ‘affordable’ though … come back to me when it’s sub £10k
I am pretty sure the steering wheel is height adjustable, at least I saw that in another video.
Yes, height and reach adjustable.
And the seat also.
It is, he is a moron, talking a lot of nonsense.
Do you really mean suspension set-up different then 2020 model. I never heard about it before. Non of of ioniq 5 2023 model reviewers mentioned that.
Yes it's different type at all and my local distributor showed it in the list of changes for 23MY.
Personally, I have 2 reservations for an Ioniq 6.
1.5-2 yrs wait time in Canada 😭
That's ones on new plate but the 22 model if I'm correct?
still no rear wind screen wiper...
i've got the ioniq 5 and i find having no rear windscreen wiper isn't an issue. Tesla's don't have a rear wiper yet nothing is said.
That's because most Tesla owners are sheep that doesn't ask questions about their overlords decisions.
My M3 doesn't need a rear wiper, never have an issue. Same for most cars that aren't hatch backs: very rare to see a a wiper on a non-hatchback rear window.
There you go. Whole lotta fuss for nothing.
Good of Hyundai to fix their design floor of having no rear wiper by charging you more money for a digital rear screen. I am a bit disappointed by some of Hyundai's choices with this when compared to the original ioniq and Kona. For example the original ioniq was a 30 k car but had a standard heat pump, it is £900 option on this and only on the top of the range. The 58kwh battery is smaller the 68kwh on the Kona, why? This thing is massive it's bound to struggle with range. Feels like quite alot of profiteering is going on to me maybe I'm wrong
The profit per electric car is higher than petrol cars in general. They're gonna milk it while they still can.
Wireless android auto/Apple CarPlay now???
The shape looks like a modern Austin Maestro.
Very difficult choice as to which looks better, both are ugly. The Ioniq looks like it's been knocked in a garden shed by someone who has been snorting illegal substances.
Does it come with wider parking bays? No? Oh.. wouldn't want these double parked on a road..
I hate that white frame around the displays. Why cannot they change it black like it is in Ioniq 6. The black one looks 100 times more better.
After market stick on black templates are available if you really feel the need.
Seriously ridiculous costs in UK ...!! My Citroen does 800 miles per tank every time and cost £40,000 less.... !!!
So the initial cars had a shorter shelf life than a smartphone. Nope! Are there retrofit discounts available for owners who want to protect their investment?
Presenter reminds me of Rory from Doctor Who :)
No rear wiper is still a show stopper . Even a Taycan has one.
The recent cold weather in the UK has been a good reminder of that. Sometimes you need to clear stuff off the rear window which fancy aerodynamics has no chance of moving.
But neither do Teslas have them.
Still looks like an Austin Maestro.
Hi guys I'm extremely interested into offering this car to my parents as a gift but all of my family are vegan.. so leather is a big no for us.
Do you know if we can get it without " real leather "?
thank you
Cheaper to charge at home yes. Nearly half a day to charge , yes. No thank you. I'll stick to my Diesel which does not take 20 minutes to fill up and guaranteed 400 + miles in a single tank.
Ugh. Rear-wheel? Not great for winter driving.
I have a 2022 Ioniq 5 and have been pretty dissapointed. I wish these videos showed you the realistic range and charge times for UK driving/infrastructure. During the recent cold spell I was getting 150 miles out of the battery and charge (when they worked) of 35kw off 120-150 kw chargers. Also... where the heck are the 250 kw chargers?!
35kw out of 120-150kw charger isnt a 120-150kw charger. Just saying. Most likely you plugged into wrong charger. Go to another. 3:06 gave you a lost of charging speed and kw charger stations you need to go to.
@@zlonewolf they're the 120 ones as shown on zap map...
Same experience here! Battery range is shocking when the temp is below 5 Degrees
As with all ev's it depends on the weather and your driving style. Heating interior is going to pull a lot of energy as will motorway driving and lots of pacy acceleration. I'm not slow but still got 200+ in the cold snap driving at night in the rain. Also blame the charging infrastructure, it's not the car. I plugged into a 350kW station and got 33kW out of it. The guy next to me had the same issue. Oh for Tesla stations! Love the HUD in the car tho. Rear wiper is a pain and should be sorted.
Still too pricey
buy a dacia
VOTE NOW! 🗳️Should the rear wiper be mounted at the bottom, or at the top under the spoiler?
BONUS QUESTION : Should it swipe from left to right, or from right to left?
DOUBLE BONUS: Does your answer change for Right Hand Drive models versus Left Hand Drive ones? 💦
Starting price you says it's cheeper than the Tesla Model 3 because you can get it with a smaller battery. You can get a Model 3 RWD with a smaller battery just to correct you.
The RWD Tesla Model 3 costs $46,900 in the US. Not sure about the UA prices. And it comes with premium trim. So if you recommend the I5 RWD with premium trim how to they compare price wise and what is the range of each of those cars? I5 220 mile EPA TM3 270 EPA. So which is the better deal now? You should mention this.
When you show the starting prices you quote the tesla model Y not the 3. WTH this is some bad editing.
I personally don't care which EV folks buy but I do care about accurate journalism.
Lack of metric units, km, kW...
We're only half metric in the UK. 😉
Why? Because carmakers are still trying to figure this out. :)
And why we are waiting until at least 2024... with all the rest of the normies. In the mean time we like driving our nieces Bolt which is excellent. The Hyundais are tops on our list. For now.
Sounds odd. But would you do reviews on dashcams or know a trustworthy RUclips channel that does?
RWD Limited = American Unicorn
The Model 3 is overpriced tat that falls apart in the hands. The Ioniq 5 is miles ahead in quality.
Nah
@@sammydavis991 Yes.
Can’t believe anybody is spending money on teslas, absolutely overpriced Chinese garbage
I’m not a Tesla fanboy but I have a model 3 and the built quality is great on mine.
Hyundai is really impressive recently they’ve upped their game big time in design, quality and features. Only thing going for Tesla is their software
Another affordable EV, I can afford one but they are so overpriced, there’s going to be a lot of old cars running around at the deadline which is not good for the future. Don’t mention the poor infrastructure for charging especially in rural areas…
I have no idea why anyone would buy one of these over a Tesla. Just makes no sense!
You have a point, but you also have to explain why Tesla uses cheap plastic and cheap leather and has so many recalls with very bumpy rides due to cheap shock. Tesla does make a great EV, but making cars with cheap material is not acceptable for any vehicle
Maybe they are not the biggest fans of a car with no dedicated dashboard
I own both, Ioniq 5 is a better car.
@@gyulapreseka5358 ok 😂
£50k
That’s a lot of hooch.
That car, if they really wanted to steal a march, it should be £35k.
Lovely color
OMG 50 grand for a 315 mile range and fairly basic look. I just bought a Honda Crosstar which can achieve more range and better designed inside for half the cost. There is going to be a lot more demand for hybrid cars than the milk floats I'm afraid. What working guy even at middle management level can reall afford this extravagance? And you won't be saving the planet either unless you run ifor 8 years or so by which time the battery will most likely be on its last legs.
This looks like the new household appliance from Samsung. It belongs to the same group as the tesla truck or nissan murano convertible, a freak show of a car.
Embarrassing that my 2019 Tesla infotainment looks 1000% more responsive than this. And that is running old hardware. This is a new car. The sat nav in this looks absolutely horrible.
Superb ❤️😃
Bro did you really just say the interior of a Model 3 is nicer? 🤡
영국은 비오는 날이 잦아 흙탕물에
후방 시야 확보가 어려운건 알겠는데..
그럼 세단에도 리어 와이퍼 달아야겠네 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
No fuel savings what so Ever , I mean small Hyundai were never £50,000 expensive in the first place
You could buy a small Hyundai for 25k than have spare 25k for fuel for the last 20 years
On that basis I would be inclined to agree. However, for the next 20 years, expect Dino juice to be demonised, increased pricing, increases in zero emission zones in cities etc.
We added an EV to our little fleet but one key attribute is increased safety of current vehicles and yes that's not exclusive to EV's but since that's something we wanted, combined it with the EV purchase (which makes little immediate financial sense, just something I wanted to do).
Still keeping my old 1994 Volvo 850 Estate though, it's one of the family and has only done 306,000 miles, haven't finished with it yet. :)
you are intelligent
Too boxy for my liking.
The wheels look too big for the size of the car
Ioniq 5 is no longer attractive option after price increases. Now I am tilting towards Tesla.
We have an Ioniq 5 4x4 and a model Y. A lot of good things about both, but the tesla is just a lot less annoying (and better at all things except seats)😄
£50k for a Hyundai! We want a cheaper car, not this. Interesting the comparison throughout was with a model 3 then at the end the price was shown for a model y
They literally can't make enough of them. Why should they they be cheaper? For every person like you or me that can't afford that there are plenty that can.
the model 3 is 48,490£ with less range and equipment
Lol equivalent- CarPlay? Hud? Ventilated seats? Glass roof cover? Hatch? Same space inside? Wipers that work? 😂 this Tesla drop is wild
For a Hyundai?? You pay loads of cash for trash car's sale to YOU ALL as SUPER CAR'S LOLOL.
@@Kurre. £47500, but it was the comparison with a model 3 on the video rather than the price.
From the U.S. here, hoping Hyundai gets their $7500 tax credit back, really interested in the car.
Started looking at this as we have a Tesla model Y and want a second EV but wanted something cheaper as more a runaround car. As someone else said, 50k for a Hyundai is silly money. Needs to be more like 35k. Would rather a model 3 than this.
What you're looking for is the Kona, which is more efficient and so has pretty much the same range. It has really great regen so is more efficient at lower speeds so would be great as a runaround. It doesn't look great and only has 75kW charging but as a runaround is really practical.
Too expensive for what you get, screens are small big bezels, and tech doesn't compare to tesla.
Lovely car, shame about the subpar infotainment.
They really should consider doing what Volvo/Polestar/Renault did and just install Android Automotive.
May be a good car but I find the styling rather dull.
Looks as if the car tested also had Heated/Ventilated Seats! as an Ioniq 5 Driver, the car has lots of issues. DAB Constantly drops out, Headlamps are useless, It also needs headlight washers, Horn is quiet. It really needs a rear wiper. Trim Fit very poor, damp interior condensation problems. How can they build a car with WIRED apple play/android auto...ridiculous. Tesla prices have dropped considerably. It also needs Pop Out Door Handles.
Funny that other than the rear wiper blade NONE of your complaints are listed by ANY reviewers, pro or amateur. The truth comes out at the end, you don't have an Ioniq at all, you are a muskrat fanboy. So pathetic.
For a car designed to look ultra-modern/futuristic I find it incredible how dated these look already imo.
This guy needs to do his homework. The interior of the IONIQ5 is heavily focused on sustainability, which is why the material seems different than normal. That doesn't mean that it's cheap, rather different in that for a recycled material, it's really good.
Lovely car, however it doesn't do anything different that my 19 year old Ford Fiesta with 95000miles cant do. So expensive too.
The prize for most comically inaccurate comment of the video goes to....
It could be used to charge your vibrator to brush your teeth? Don't think your fiesta would manage that.
@@gordonmccartney5648 to be fair, he could do that with a small inverter plugged into the ciggy socket and then the tooth brush plugged into that. ;)
@@tsavin Clearly your sense of humour sucks!
The Ionic 5 is too expensive and is not going to date well.
All these makers compete in the same premium market while the Chinese makers quietly but surely taking over the next bracket down. Many of these established brands will not survive in a few years time.
Good looking, expensive, impractical toy.

50 grand to drive around at 20mph everywhere trying not to get a tickets isn't my idea of fun, owning a car and enjoying it isn't really a thing anymore sadly
Too expensive simple
People that buy cars that have 'IQ' in their names are obviously lacking in that particular area..
