I’ve had my iX1 for exactly a year today. As my first EV, I had a lot of range anxiety. But found no issues with my weekly driving and it has slotted into my life with no issues. I live in an apartment with no charging and charging at public stations hasn’t been an issue. Long distance trips require a little more thought but hasn’t been an issue. And I agree with Tom, I went for X Line as I thought it was a bit more elegant. Yes the breaks are noisy, still waiting for the parts to come in for the recall on the breaks that hopefully fix the issue. Apart from that and an ongoing tail gate issue that’s now been resolved, I’ve been really happy with my car.
Hey Tom, I took delivery of my iX1 xDrive30 msport a couple of weeks ago. The torque of the car is highly addictive. I've come out of a 530d msport so it's been a bit of a step change for me but being able to package the car entirely pre-tax was very appealling. What I have noticed that is rarely mentioned with these electric cars is that the battery is best operated between 20-80%, which is fine however when a range is quoted as 400km, to stay between this battery range you really only end up with a range of around 240km between charges. Coming from a 5 series that would happily do around 850km between drinks this has been the most noticeable impact to daily living/operating.
The 20-80% rule entirely depends on the type of battery used in the electric vehicle. It is not a blanket rule. LFP batteries can be charged to 100% on the regular without issue. NCM batteries on the other hand while more dense, is more susceptible to increased degradation if regularly charged to 100%.
If you have a charger at home, should be fine though? If you do a lot of longer trips that's where a hybrid or diesel is better for your needs. But around the metro area you can't beat the EV. I got a charger from Evnex too where it can charge for free using only solar excess.
I have had an iX1 since October. Feels nice inside, perfect size for my needs, responsive driving, good safety and other tech. Range is a weakness, especially when you don't have home charging with apartment living. Overall I like it. My experience with the suspension is a bit firm rather than soft, especially compared to the iX3 which is like driving inside a box floating on a cloud. The braking isn't so great, every time I brake to a stop, it makes a loud "clunk", which is particularly noticeable when trying to shuffle into a parking space.
I have had my iX1 for 3 months now. Fantastic car. I have owned and still own a number of Mercedes and BMWs and the IX1 in my opinion is the best. Quality is very high. Had a look at a lot of other EV and this is by far the best quality for the price.
That iX1 must need adjusting. My iX2 comes to a complete stop in B mode (one pedal driving) even on a slight decline. They are the same car under the skin.
Yes - B mode is 💯 one-pedal driving. I really like you can toggle between D & B modes in BMWs. I do so often. Many EVs don't have full one-pedal, & few have a simple way to deactivate it.
I bought the iX1 Xdrive30 at the end of July with the operating system 9. The B drive stops completely. Range, however, is sub optimal and well bwlow what they claim. I live 155km SE of Adelaide. It uses 52%+ for 150km so I have to recharge before heading home. .. With headlights on and air conditioning on low fan, daytime driving. At night, the first drive home went from 100% to 27%. Not good enough. Bluetooth connection to phone drops out. I have had quite a few Bmers...this one is disappointing
I don't know why, but as far as I've seen in Queensland, the iX1 is probably the biggest seller in the X1 family. That said, when seeing the latest generation X1 on the road, the chance of that car being an iX1 (either 20 or 30) is more than 50%.
I have an iX1, at just 3 months old the centre screen died and it controls absolutely everything. It took over 6 weeks to get sorted. Great car to drive, but this experience left me very disappointed.
The higher real world range on the highway compared to urban loop is also the case with the iX3 in my experience. That is the opposite of what we are led to expect from EVs. Perhaps it has something to do with the design of the BMW electric motors.
So it's quite soft suspension, lots of plastic, not the biggest boot and no ipedal or more advanced options like cooled seats. How is it better than an EV6 or Ioniq 5/6 especially with charging speeds?
We pre-ordered our iX1 xDrive30 in December 2022 and took delivery in October 2023. (So ours came with all the options for about $10K less than BMW is now charging.) Tom' Baker's review nails it - it's a really nice, comfortable car that rides pretty well (yes, it's a bit heavy) and has plenty of get-up-and-go. We love it. We charge at home on 3 phase at up to 22kW. (22kW charging is standard on the iX1, unlike some other EVs.) And yes, I would like more range, but it caters to 98% of our driving needs beautifully. (We still have a standard hybrid smaller car for the occasional long trip where charging an EV might be problematic or if we think we'll lack time for a long charge at low power public charger.)
Your opinion please; looking at taking the EV leap in early 2025. Current shortlist is the BMW iX3, Volkswagen ID.5 or Volvo EX40? VW and Volvo are expected end of 2024 in Australia.
@@Richard-sl8wethe current ix3 is close to the end of its run, with the new one coming mid to late next year. The other ones to consider would be the Skoda Enyaq (if it ever comes), Cupra Tavascan and the multiple other cars from China coming (BYD SL7, Xpeng etc)
Thanks, top of my list is still a 2024 spec BMW iX3; white with black or mocha leather (it's real leather I believe, I'm what you'd call 'old school'; not a fan of some of the new fake leather choices in many modern cars). Are you happy with your iX3 so far; what colour combination did you go for?
@@Richard-sl8we very happy with it. coming from an ICE car, we do like that it still has buttons for climate control etc. Drives really well and is a nice place to be in. We got the pro with white exterior and black interior. It is real leather.

I got the iX1 as my first EV😄. Q4 has a bit more space and more range. The iX1 has the 22kW AC Charger which was a must for me. The Q4 charges quicker at fast chargers. They are both very good cars, you can test drive both and let your heart decide. (The older Q4 were very thirsty in case you want to buy a used one.)
Test drove both, ix1 feels a much nicer place to be. The Audi felt like I was driving a boat your so far back and the interior isn’t anything special. It’s quite a bit car aswell.
very good car... not premium enough. I'm still thinking of purchasing it tho, the EX30 is a toy car compared with this and the Tesla model Y has tremendously poor materials
God damn it! I thought this was going to be a review of an interesting new BMW… BUT NO! Just another EV (that no cares for)… and the interior is worse than what BMW are already known for😂😂

Yes, it is said to charge the battery to 100% ONLY when doing ultra-long-distance road trips.

The Max AC charging speed is actually 22KW on a three phase home charger
Yes, there's a few destination 22kw AC chargers at towns we sometimes travel to, would be super useful.

It’s a real shame when silly things like that happen after forking out all that cash. Hope it hasn’t killed the new car excitement too much for you.

Value for money, it is not. Does my head in how they can claim "premium" when you look at all the cheap materials shoved in it.

Hi Tom - I am currently deciding between the iX1 and the Audi Q4 E-Tron for my first EV car. Any thoughts on which would be the better choice?

I think the Q4 e-tron doesn't have full one-pedal driving - if that's important to you...
Interested to know what thoughts you may have on this vs an older, but slightly larger rwd ix3 m sport. Similar price.
Yes, I was just about to ask the same question. I understand the current iX3 has lost the 360 camera and HUD.....shame
The price is insane lol... X1 costing more than a Genesis GV70 or Lexus NX???
I'm confused, Neither of these are electric? (and the Electrified GV70 was $120k+ ?
very good car... not premium enough. I'm still thinking of purchasing it tho, the EX30 is a toy car compared with this and the Tesla model Y has tremendously poor materials
With no iDrive, when you can't use a touch screen, that's a deal breaker.
Lucky car not having to wear those horrible looking tail lights as seen on the x3.
The new BMWs look like they got a plastic surgery from ChatGPT
It wouldn’t be a BMW if someone didn’t have something to say about its styling one way or the other…
Yuck in side ix3 way better
EV?!? Haha ……no one cares
the upcoming Xpeng G6 and Zeekr X will wipe the floor with this iX1.... and cost maybe 1/3 less...
except all the reviews for these aren't promising at all. So i'm not sure how
@@jimmyp1433 any links to those reviews?

If you can't afford it, just say so.
Just so cheaply made and just not a real BMW. Came from a G20 340i and Rather throw $75K for 390kw and about 500kms of range.
