- CAUTION BASE JUMPERS!!!! This is an expert wingsuit jump, with a very big ledge at 50m, very low departure, electric cable, tons of paragliders, restricted landing area... PLEASE don't jump there if you're not an expert, do not overestimate yourself!!
ATTENTION BASE JUMPERS!!! Saut expert avec très grosse vire à 50m, départ très court (145m à 30m devant), cables électriques, des dizaines de parapentes (voire centaines en été), zone de posé règlementée... SVP n'allez pas sauter là-bas sans une très bonne connaissance de la zone et un grand nombre ce de sauts de ce type. Ne vous surestimez pas!!

Proximity fliers generally fly at a steep trajectory which gives them a margin for error so that they can flatten out a bit (which converts some of their horizontal energy to vertical energy) at any time to give themselves a bit more height.
So they don't actually gain altitude but they slow their vertical descent (relative to the angle they were flying before) which makes it look like that.

Some really long very close proximety flying. As a hang glider pilot, I marvel at your skills. I would like to know if you are able to take advantage of any ground effect. Gliders are able to extend thier glide ratio by flying close to the ground, compressing the air beneath. I wonder if the wing suits are able to take advantage of the same?

He opens his canopy probably which gives him lift. You also get a thing called ground effect which can give you lift.

Damnit! I wanted to see a landing! Oh well, otherwise this kicks ass and made me keep thinking "OMG he's going to die! He can't not die at this point! Death is inevitable! How the hell did he live?!" But no. You lived! At least until you had to land. That part I'm not sure you survived because I didn't see it. But you probably did, because you survived a lot more harrowing stuff before that. Nice job!

1:21 - 1:41 is just SICK!
he adjusts his angle, so he's no longer gaining as much vertical speed & transfers most of the vertical speed into horizontal. As the slope carries on downwards & his horizontal speed increase while vertical speed decreases it looks as if he gains height.
Don't your ears dislike it when you change your altitude at several hundred meters per second?
