As pretty much everyone has said... this series is just great. Thanks so much for putting this content out here and in excellent English. There is a real community folks into redblock performance here in the states. Thank you on behalf of all of us!!
Great video - it's slightly sad that you don't show the water pump, oil pump etc - but to me that just says "like normal" :-) the oil pump can be a bit tricky and there are some worthwhile mods to be done there on these engines. Looks like you didn't and are confident in them as is, that's a good sign for those who don't do the mods. :-) Thanks for making it and doing the voice overs and intro/outro in English - much appreciated! :-0
Thank you very much for the detailed build. I'm lucky enough to have 4 red block Volvo's, 2 non-turbo, 2 turbo, all still running very well, 91-240, 91-740, 91-940SE and 90-760. In my retirement now the time to take on one of these builds is at hand, though 600 maybe a lofty goal for me. Thank you again we all appreciate your experience and wealth of knowledge.
Like ive said before i would love for you to go a little bit more indepth into the process of o-ringning. Tools, mesurments, what wire you use etc 🙂 Och tack åter igen för dessa videos helt fantastiskt att du vill dela med dig av din kunskap! 👍 Hare gött!
Thank you for posting this build series in English- really interesting and really informative. I’ll definitely rewatch these videos and follow your advice for my next engine build/rebuild. Looking forward to the next one- thanks again :)
Wow, all I can say is, Wow! You are very talented, and you share a lot of very detailed and useful information in this well filmed and expertly documented series. I know that you can make a lot more money building customer engines, than taking the time to film this, but I am very grateful. There is something here for everyone, and I am very much looking forward to building my first red block thanks to the amazing information here. Lastly, others have mentioned already, but the fact that you did this in a language other than your native tongue is simply incredible. Thank you for posting this series!
I don't even have a Volvo I Tune Mercedes 4cyl M111's but I really enjoy watching this series, I must get a ring grinder though such a good tool. Keep up the great work really enjoying it buddy 👍
Inspiring build! Wife got the 740 in the divorce but I'm hunting a 91+ 240, they are scarce here in Nicaragua however. Would love to do a budget 500 or 600hp build, ultimate sleeper =) Thanks so much for sharing your expertise.
Your accent is it from Sweden I live in Stockholm but I’m from the states so it’s nice to hear somebody speak English and these videos cause I’m thinking about building one of these cars out here for a drift project or sleeper
Thanks very much for the English video. I’ve been into Volvos a long time and rebuilt a B230ft a number of years ago and wish I had seen your videos back then. Ive had a 531 head sitting here with 37mm stainless exhaust valves for a number of years……I wonder how bad the shipping would be from Canada to send it to you for some massaging…….
Thanks for sharing this, i have recent bought a 1978 volvo 240 - it has a B21, i was going to swap it for a barra but videos like this are making me second guess that.
I'm looking to giving my B230F a birthday but haven't ever done anything like this. (Hopefully to sort out a couple of leaks). This video looks like the attention to detail I'd love, but I wouldn't know where to start with tooling. Even so, very informative and interesting to watch. Thank you.
Hej Tommy,,jag ser att du använder orginal remhjul till veven (svängningsdämpare) .Hur mycket sanning finns det i att veven går av om man använnder det lilla aluhjulet på veven. tex på en grupp H motor 2.5 liters. Mvh Tommy
38:37 whats the part name of the black pipe on the engine that goes from the waterpump to the back of the engine, my 240 has a hole in that pipe and i cant seem to find the part. I could try to quick fix it but could use some help and tips:)
Love the videos I work in a machine shop myself an i know its hard to even get anytime for your own builds ive had my 531 head sittin the shop for about 7 months just because customer builds it really is hard to get stuff done for your self wjen you got alot of angry customers wanting there stuff done tomorrow. Keep up the good work
Great video, i have owned ,driven Volvo 240's for 42 yrs and worked for Volvo Canada for a few yrs back from 1987- 89, my current daily driver is an 1989 240DL about 350kms , it runs well and still only uses about 1 tank of fuel each week in winter that is good to me in Winnipeg here winter is colder than Sweden, i have purchased a k Camshaft ,the same as the ones you have in Europe, do you have any recommendations for this , i know i will replace all the seals and cam belt and tensioner and have a valve shim kit already, i did a compression test the summer of 2020 and it was less than .75 of a bar difference between all 4 cylinders, would appreciate any input you might have 👍
What diameter of steel wire do you use? What’s the depth of the groove +- ? Where to find the bolck gridle? Do you sell them? Thanks and keep the good work!
Will you put the notches of the bearings of the conrods at the same side or opposite of each other? I am currently rebuilding a B230K block. When I demounted everything, the notches for the conrods were at the same side, while the notches of the main bearings were opposite. The block has date 871008, so MY88 and has already 63mm main bearings with the thrust bearing at the flywheel side. My plan is to put it into one of my 360's so it will be running on Bosch LH2.2 injection. Can I use a B230F head gasket on this B230K block?
Great video as always :) I've been assembling all my ARP bolts with the arp grease in the threads aswell as the contact surface of the nuts/bolts. Have i been doing it wrong ?
Nice build, love your style, can not wait to see running, last engine i had in machine shop was 1600 audi, when finished topped out at 1603, in traffic it upset an escort cosworth, escort driver not grinning. I was, stay safe.
Hi mate. Great videos. I’ve got a b230ft block with a scratch in the bore. It needs to be over bored from 96mm to 97mm. The car will be around 500hp. Will there be a chance of cracked cylinder walls with an overbite that size? Thanks.
Great video with knowledge that’s backed up with experience and simple solutions. I’d definitely watch more red block and Volvo related videos, head work would be excellent.
Thank you very much for such excellent video. Your descriptions are precise and easy to understand. You are an excellent coach. Huge respect. 👍greetings from Hamburg
Now we saw your way of an easy 600hp redblock low end. Please show us a video for a 600hp 8V head and 16v head. My experience says it is all about camshaft on the 8V! So what’s your choice. Thank you very much
Love the videos really appreciate your time and effort in doing these for us. Really keen to learn about how you set up the crank case ventilation as I've seen you use a few different methods.
If you take all the material off one side of the piston when weight matching wouldmt you be introducing side to side imbalance that to some degree creates a rocking motion. When I was taught to balance pistons and rods my mentor said to round off edges, take away casting flaws, and smooth corners. The idea was to take away material evenly
Please do a live stream one night after work so we can shower you with money! That way you can get your time to answer questions supported by your fans. It would be really fun too!
Are those rods 152mm crank steered? I have wiseco pistons in my engine and they aren’t pistons steered anymore and so I think I need spacers to make it piston steered or some crank steered rods. Any input would be appreciated!
And for people who might doubt the 600hp claim, yes 600hp is pretty conservative for whats done to it. On a stock block it is possible to get 500hp if you manage the tourqe with the tune and have a camshaft that is optimised for high rpm(these engine with stock T/M and maybe A camshafts will make a bunch of low - midend power otherwise). Tourqe kills the stock turbo rods(if it's regular N/A rods they are only good for about 240nm before bedning or snapping if you unlucky) Rods are the weakest, if you start out with a later model FT/FK engine(95-98) they have oil squirters which help the cooling of the pistons and makes them last longer and make it able to last with higher power outputs. if my memory serves the B23ET engines had really great forged cranks, pistons and decent rods. but the later generation blocks were more sturdy(95-98)
I found your channel a little while ago, I have a low milage (120.000 km) 1985 B230A in my 240, is there any hope for tuning that to maybe 200-250 hp? Greetings from Norway

i have the oficial volvo manual here for an AQ145A, marine engine, and you're doing it right; the factory torque values are with oiled threads.

Did you buy the girdle or make it?
The stainless steel wire/o-ring installation was somewhat comedic to me. How thick was that wire?
You don't say?! Very Gnarly. I can't wait to bolt mine up! Thanks for this product.
