Regie I had Stan sign my asm all black 9-11 tribute book and he signed with a BLACK sharpie lol but he resigned it in silver CGC recognized it as a Stan Lee double signed book!
Thanks, Reggie this is definitely another high value video filled with clear, concise and unbiased information. This novice greatly appreciates it as I am shaping my reasons for starting collecting again.
Catherine Mitchell You are very welcome. I’m glad that you found the video helpful. At the end of the day, this channel is trying to make all of us smarter. I’ve made some mistakes. You’ll probably make some too but maybe we can learn a little from each other. And, make different mistakes. 🤪😂 How long have you been away from the hobby?
Regie, I want it! Been watching your videos for the past week or two and have become a big fan. Thanks for all of the info! I sent the first books I’ve ever had graded to CGC and am anxiously awaiting getting them back. This is a great topic. I kept going back and forth on wether or not I should try and get some books signed via CGC SS and decided that I loved the book enough that I didn’t want to take a chance of it getting damaged in the process. I might do it in the future for other books but for now will just get raw books signed for the experience of meeting my favorite creators.
John Nieves Thank you for the kind words John. I’m glad that you’re enjoying the content. At the end of the day, the decision that you made is probably the best one for your collection. The good news is that you can always make adjustments down the road if your opinion changes. I’m curious who some of your favorite creators are.
Regie Simmons IFBB Pro Currently, some of my favorite writers are Donny Cates , Kelly Thompson, Saladin Ahmed, Tom King, Tom Taylor, and Jason Latour. As far as artists, Ryan Ottley, Jorge Jimenez, Robbi Rodriguez, Geoff Shaw, and Ryan Stegman. That's just currently...so many others if we're talking guys that have been around since the 60's! Haha How about you?
Great video Regie! signed books and raw books are both awesome but it’s the ultimate decision to make if you want it slabbed or not and having the potential grade change a bit because of a signature...tough one🤔 Regie I want it‼️
I had Stan Lee sign my Fantastic Four #1 (1961) on 11/10/2018. Then it was sent to CGC. That's his last known Comic signing date. I think I made a good decision. He passed a couple days later. RIP Stan.
Regie I want it! Great video, this are some really good points to think about when considering getting a signature. I completely agree with you on getting a signature that means something to the book getting signed.
Great Video Regie. I like how you touched on how signatures can affect the value of a book in both a positive and a negative way. Your right though I'd never thought about how a signature would affect the comic as a whole. I want everything on your back wall, I know it'll never happen but "I want it." Haha
Joshua Richardson Lol. The back wall? I can hook you up with this Lazarus but that back wall is a WHOLE other story. Lol. Seriously though I didn’t have really any of those books in 2017 so anything is possible. I’m glad that the video sparked some thoughts within you. At the end of the day, I want us all to stop and think before we pull the trigger. I have had a few “oh snap” moments over the years because I have a bias for action and that jammed me up. Can you say Subby 1 with pen markings?? 😜😂 I can laugh about it now.
Thanks Regie for the info has helped me alot on deciding what to do with my comics as i have a few signed by stan and a few others, just getting around to doing it
Nice vid buddy. Highlights some things people might not think much about before getting a signature. Makes me sad thinking that I won’t be able to get anymore Stan Lee sigs for books in the PC right now.
Excellent information. I appreciate you taking the time to go over signatures, and their potential effect on grading. I have never particularly felt the need to obtain signatures myself, with the one exception being Stan the Man. But at the risk of contradicting myself...Regie I want it.
Wanted to take a second to say thanks for the AWESOME content. I thoroughly enjoy all the content you are putting out all the way in Raleigh, NC. Keep it up!
Regie, I want it! Actually, I agree if I am going to get a book signed I like to put it in the splash page. Sometime I think putting a signature on the cover takes away from the artwork. Good video as always. Thanks!
Firstly, Regie I want it. Secondly, the only signature I have is a ROM #18 signed by Sal Buscema in the slash page. I would never get it slabbed because I want to be able to see the signature on the inside, but I even if the sig was on the cover I only own it because I am a ROM fan. To each his or her own, but I primarily slab books to sell and I would not sell it. Not that it would go for much haha! Love your videos, Regie. Keep it up!
Amazing advice as usual! Bout to get a John Romita sig on newly acquired ASM 39 and u have helped me affirm this decision today. Thx. Oh and REGIE I WANT IT!!!!!!!!
You really touched on a lot of the points that make me hesitant to get books signed. Sometimes they really make covers uglier, which is a bummer. But, meeting artists and writers can be a great experience, and having a connection to them that you can walk away with can be great... it's a fine line... Having said that, Regie, I want it haha Thanks!
At the end of the day, I just want folks to stop and think for a second about what they’re doing. I’m pretty confident that if we do that, we’ll be happier in the end with the decision that’s made. I’ve had a few bone headed mistakes over the last year that were caused by my bias for action. These videos serve as a great reminder for me and maybe a cautionary tale for others. 😂🤣😜
What you said about the placement is true. I have loved J Scott Campbell since I was in my late teens. Now being in my 40s, and loving spider Gwen/ghost spider, I found a book signed by him online with an official COA saying it was part of the J Scott Campbell signature collection. Had he signed it horizontally, it would’ve gone across the art, so he signed it vertically just a bit below the staples in the spine. It sounds like what you were saying, when he signed it he didn’t want to sign across the artwork.
Great content again! I was always hesitant getting a book signed or having one signed on raw book before but lately I've been getting more and have since got a few cgc signature series books though and I love them just as much! I'll definitely be happy to have that book in collection! Regie I want it!!!
I have hundreds if not thousands of signed comics. I do not own any slabbed books. I do not sell my comics. I do not care to speculate on the value of my comics. I am a comic book fan. The only investment I care about from my comics is my enjoyment of them.
Great video. I get books signed for 2 reasons, 1 to increase monetary value and 2 if I enjoy the art and artist then I get it for myself. I have some Clayton Crain autos that are just for me and they fit all the things, add to the cover, great placement and great color choice. Thanks for the video Regie I enjoy what you are doing, and Regie I want it. :D
One bring up some very salient points throughout this video. I’m not a signature guy by any stretch but I still enjoyed the information. Oh and Regie... I want it!😊
Reggie I want it! The only signed books I have are a Snyder Batman book and a Art Adams X-men book from Fan Expo Dallas 2 years back but I play on attending this year and maybe getting a few more :D
Sometimes the best lessons in life are learned the hard way through personal experience. Key point in your video is if you're gonna get a sig on a book, get it from someone who actually had a hand in creating the book or character, and not some celebrity who might have acted the part. (Um....yeah, anyway........) Great video and Regie I want it!
Johnny Future A lot of my videos come from mistakes/missteps that I’ve taken. I also learn a great deal from mistakes that are made by others. I basically take these learnings, roll them into a video and share them with the community.
Hey regie. Nice video! I thought about this topic the week before this last weekends dallas comic show. i did bring a few books but decided not to get them signed for that reason of 'lowering the grade of the book'. oh well. but i think on books that have some sentimentality, i may buy a white paint pen for the artist to sign in those dark areas that you mentioned.
I’m not sure that I realized that the signature could lower the grade of the book prior to that discussion with CGC. The crazy thing is that I almost had my Iron Man 55 signed. I was on my way to the con and turned around. I submitted the book and it came back at a 9.4. Bullet dodged. I think each of us has to do what’s right for our collections. Given the importance of this information, I wanted to share it with folks so that they could make informed decisions. Someone commented that they still get signatures but not on or in a comic. They do it on sketch pads, etc. If you decide to roll with white signatures on books in negative space that also works. It might actually be pretty cool looking. 👍🏾
I'm pretty meh about signatures. I've never been an autograph hound unless it's from someone I have a relationship with (I work in book publishing so I often get signed books from authors with whom I've worked). That said, I have some signed books I bought from another collector. But I got them because the lots filled a hole in my collection and the price was right even without the sigs. I have to admit, though, having 30 or so Iron Man with Bob Layton's signature on them is nice. His run on IM reconnected me to comics in my early 20s.
Great video as always. I have 1 signed book in my collection so far. Kevin Smith signed a Black Cat book years ago. Regie, I want it. I'd love to have a few more from people I respect and admire. And I prefer it unslabbed as I'm not in it for vthe money.
Good stuff Regie - you make some great points - I always wanted a Stan Lee signed book - mostly for how much respect I have for him and all he had done for comics. “Regie I want it”
I got Stan to sign my ASM 33 and he signed it with a blue marker on the water portion of the book. At first I was a little bummed, but it looks really nice, the Blue pops enough to enjoy it but at the same time it doesn’t detract from the art either. Very happy with it
Another great informative video Regie. Your going places my brotha. I feel everyone has their own reasoning behind doing things. This was definitely a great video to get people to think a little more into what their doing. I think cost factors in more when your getting the sig for the purpose of re-sale but if it's just for personal reasons then cost is a factor but a lot less of a burden. I have quite a bit of signed slabbed books because I wanted to get them signed and preserved. I also have books that are just signed with no grading and I will not part with either because I wanted to meet the artist or writer. I know cost is always a big factor in anything we do but I feel like you tend to relax a little more on cost if the book is staying in your PC and not for re-sale. Again great job Regie, one of the hardest working men in this comic RUclips world. lol. Also Regie I want it. Not sure how I feel about saying that sounds a little dirty. Lmao.
So you want in huh. That didn’t make it feel less dirty did it? 😂😜 You raised some excellent points bro. At the end of the day, I want folks (including myself) to make more informed decisions about our collections. I’ve made a few bone headed mistakes that could have been avoided if my bias for action had not gotten in the way. Thanks for commenting and for the kind words.
Dynamic Forces offers some great HIGH-END signed books their my go to! Great video finally some real knowledge on this subject! Being that i sale and deal in high-end books I really appreciate the way you expressed the key points in why they are a epic find or buy! 5 STARS
Great video, I've been thinking of your points in this situation for a while, for me I have to say the signiture would just have to be if I like the artist, inker or writer and not for me to sell on or send off to cgc as the cost for me being in england and the amount of time it would be away is just not worth it for me, but also I still would like the signiture in a decent place so that it didn't affect the look of the cover as personally it would just bug me if for example it was across a face, I would just put it in a top loader then hang it up would still look cool !!! And Regie I want it !!! Thanks andy.
Great video Regie! Before I elaborate, Regie, I Want It!! Very informative stuff, I actually like getting signatures just to show that I met the creators and got them to sign it. I don't know if you ever saw my IG post on meeting John Romita Sr. The book I got him to sign was worthless, but the moment and meeting him to get that signature was well worth it just for sentimental memories! I'll tag you on the post!
Question for you. Do you think the experience would have been as great if you collect the signature on a sketch book versus a comic? I only ask because someone else mentioned that they don't get signed comics but they get signatures on sketch books so that they can still have that artist experience. Thoughts?
@@RegieCollects I think Sketch books is a great way to go getting signatures, and an artist doing a commission in a sketch book is worth it for a personal collection of artwork. But if I met the creators of the comic, I'm still getting it signed for my own personal preference. I never really chased signatures prior to 2013, as I just wanted to collect and read. Now I meet creators, get my books signed, get a picture, and feel overjoyed that I met them.
That’s all right. At the end of the day, if you’re having fun and enjoying your collection NOTHING else matters. Thanks for adding to the discussion. 👍🏾👍🏾
Wish I had watched this last week! I’m so torn about getting books signed. But I think I have settled on only getting signatures from artists I am truly a fan of.
Internal conflict isn’t a bad thing. It sounds like you’ve landed on a sensible approach that works for you and that’s great. That’s what this video is all about. So what artist or artist do you plan to obtain signatures from?? 😀
Great though gets exactly what I needed regie. I’m debating signing comics. My biggest concern is a lower grade after cracking slab. It’s just a big risk.
This video is from a few years ago but yes it’s a big risk. From a value perspective you should be fine-signed books tend to be worth more than graded-but yes, you might lose a grade.
I enjoyed this video! My apologies if you have already done this . . . It would be awesome if you did a video where you focused on how Yellow Label Signature Series tend to affect the FMV of comics compared to traditional Blue Label CGC graded books of the same grade. Love the episodes and Thank you!
That would be too complex given who can sign a book. Put another way, a Stan Lee signature on a comic has a different value than one signed by Todd McFarlane and a writer or inker. There are also a limited number of signed books at a given issue within a given period which makes it harder to do an apple to Apple comparison. It would be best for you to reference GoCollect and evaluate the values for yourself based upon what you are buying or selling.
Regie I want it! I have a few signed comics. I have found a few and picked them up but I’v never had a creator sign one for me in person. That is my goal for the year. I want to go to my local comic con and meet some folks.
A book with a signature is cool, but as you say in the video, if it is a memento of a great experience you had meeting them and having a small conversation, then it becomes priceless :-)
I wen to a convention where Ron Marz and Ian Churchill were guest artists. But I confused Churchill with Marz. And got all my comics signed wrong. In other event I gave David Michelinie my Batman/ Spiderman crossover to sign, just because he was the creator of Carnage (villain of the comic). Michelinie didn't even know that comic existed.
"Regie, I WANT IT!!!" I hope that works... Another great, thought provoking video. Personally, I don't currently have any signed books, but if I did get it signed I would try to have them sign it in a color that works well with the cover, as well as in a placement that doesn't detract too much from the artwork. I would still have them sign the cover, and probably slab it just to preserve the book and signature. I wouldn't get a signature for purely monetary reasons, but only to meet the artist/writer/etc and have something to remember them by. I would try to take a picture with them at the signing and maybe frame it together with the book as a show of proof that I met them (in case my friends think I forged the signature ;) )
I enjoy going to comic cons and getting some of my books signed if I know that specific artists or writers are going to be there. Depending on the book, I may or may not get it slabbed. I take into consideration the value of the book, the cost of getting it slabbed, and any cost affiliated with artist/writer fees to get said books signed or sketched not including whether they charge extra for witnessing for signature services. Most of my signed books are raw but I do have a few sketches/ signatures that I got slabbed to preserve them.
Thank you for the content. I’ll have to re watch this vid shortly. Question- how do you get a book signed? Hand the book over with a backing board? Conic bagged and boarded with cut in area of desired signature?
Personally I have never bought a signed book, but I would buy one of Stan Lee just because its a book that the legend himself has touched. However I do own many books that I personally got signed by the artists just because I loved the story or the art. For example, I LOVE the white knight story arc and had Sean Gordon Murphy sign a few, okay maybe like 5-6 of my issues. Those I would never sell and might get slabbed just to preserve them, but not to sell. Signatures are great but it shouldnt bump up the price that most people expect or are selling them for. I see them as we get them for the love of the book and the artistry that is involved in creating it. Another great vid! I know I know I'm all over your channel today lmao
@@RegieCollects I can imagine it would be with all of your videos! But shows how great and informative they are that I binge watched them for hours today lol
Do you need to get a book signed? I think its nice to have at least a few signatures in the collection. I have an ASM #700 skyline variant with about 10 signatures (luckily Stan Lee is one of them)... This is a great book for signatures, lots of white, all the names on the cover and its an on-going project obtaining as many signatures as possible... Take care!!
Hey Regie me personally I have never had the opportunity to get a book signed. The only signed book my wife and I have in our personal collection is a Superman one and we got that one on EBay. And before I forget Regie I want it. Thank you Brother
Very interesting points made that have been gnawing at me for a long time. When I go in person to a signing it is most definitely because I love that person's work and want to meet them and have a memento of that meeting. I've met JIM LEE, AL EWING and GAIL SIMONE for just those reasons. I have a NEW GODS signed by JACK KIRBY on the splash page that I purchased just to have something signed by him. And a few STAN LEE signatures as well. I have a book signed by JOHN ROMITA SR. that he had nothing to do with just to get his signature and a book that I wanted that was signed by the actor who plays the character in a TV show. The best and most meaningful are the in person signatures for me. Good video.
Regie I want it I love the content you put out cause it is very helpful and makes me think in ways I never thought of before about my books so thank you
Whats up Reggie, So I have a few signed books... From Stan lee to Todd McFarlane, Romita, Zeck, Etc... That I wish I had got verified by CGC for that beautiful gold label... But certain artist like Todd McFarlane only do a CGC signing once a year... But he will sign pretty much anything you have otherwise throughout the rest of the year and Unfortunatly that means either I have togo through CBCS or PGX and because of the wait and ugly Red label of CBCS, I go through PGX "I personally like there Gold labels" but they wouldnt sell for a huge price like CGC... So recently... Because I just love the CGC cases so much, Ive been just sending in my books that were not witnessed to CGC and getting the Green Labels... Yeah it sux just a lil, But honestly I have the COA's & I know who signed it so the green label isnt so bad to me anymore... I think Id rather have it protected in a great slab even if it is a green label its still Qualified... And YES Plz... REGGIE I WANT IT!!! I love that cover of Lazerus & a kool story line... Keep up the great vidz bro!!! Much love... - The Rated One So I had a couple questions I thought about after writing you... So Question 1 did you have yr ASM 50 7.5/7.0 Pressed after getting it signed??? Question 2 I watched yr vid with CGC and as u said they can down grade for signatures - My question is on Remarks do they feel the same way will they down grade for the size of the remark or something, cause Ive seen botth 9.8s & 9.6s with remarks is that why they get the 9.6??? 3rd is more me throwing this in to the conversation... I had a couple books signed by Chris Claremont and he would only sign over the title of the book which was weird to me, he litterally pulled the book out of my mylar that i had cut windows in and taped off to sign the title... so as he did that I noticed he had a black marker and was about to sign the title that was also black I quickly ask him nicley if he was going to have to sign the title to please use a gold or silver marker which he kindly did, but it tripped me out how he was set in only signing his name on the title of the book... So right on Reggie sorry so krazy long, much love brother... - RR
I have a Todd SpiderMan with the green label. The raw signed book was a gift from the wife and like you, I just wanted the book protected. You do what you have to do, right. 👍🏾👍🏾 Yes, the ASM 50 was unslabbed at. 7.5 then signed twice, pressed and re-graded at a 7. It’s all good because I have two amazing signatures from Stan and Romita Sr. 😀 I believe that a remark is treated the same as a signature. It will depend upon the size, position, etc. If I remember I can ask that question during the next CGC live stream and get a definitive answer. I think Chris will only sign the title area because he’s a writer and not the artist. I assume that he’s doing it to be respectful of the talented artist that he’s worked with over the years. It would have been helpful to know from him but that’s an assumption that I’m making. Thanks for watching the channel and also for that robust response. I really do like the engagement. Hopefully we’ll connect again!
When i go to C2E2 I'm taking my 9.0 infinity gauntlet slab and having George Perez sign on the inside of the book and my Teen Titans 1&2&44. Marc Silvestri will sign my Cyber Force 1 and Darkness 1 because I'm on a mission Regie you already know 😆
if i have a Karate Kommando (Chuck Norris comic) and i have Chuck Norris sign it would that be unwise? He created the cartoon the comic was based on. Hes also in the comic.
It sounds like you think it would be a good idea and that’s more important than what I think. For the record, meeting Chuck and getting a signature from him would be awesome. 😜🤣
Crazy timing putting out this video. I just put out a video starting a series of me showing off my collection of signatures. Check it out if you want: Signature Collection Part 1 - 57 SIGNED BOOKS! 80 SIGNATURES! ruclips.net/video/eEThVuzsS8Q/видео.html
Regie I need it. Er I mean. Regie, I want it. I like signatures from artists and writers I really enjoy otherwise I like the books clean. I had to get Stan’s signature because he is the embodiment of comic books to me. Same with people who’s covers I always seek out. Great video.
I am actually not sure that it impacts grade. The grade is essentially based upon the cover. But, you can check with your third party grader to confirm.
Great job man it's definitely sentimental for me cuz I love collecting and I always take my kids with me so it always reminds me of being with them Reggie I want it please
I just saw a book signed on the back the other day. It was Stan’s signature. To be honest, it was super weird. 😂🤪 I’m leaning towards the old school approach of splash page signature-if I get anything signed.
I have over 8k books and I can say I have no markings on my little capsules of art however I have tons of signatures over the last 25 years but not on my books I'm one of those collectors you made great points and this is a outstanding video for those who are into it
I have original art, lithographs, print art, newspaper art, have some photographs signed, canvas art some things I've bought signed and some I've had signed I even had video games signed but not my books my mentor who I got my books off of over the years was a illustrator for Disney and he made sure I wouldn't ruin the art on the books he pounded it in my head in my attalessinces constantly what makes my books valuable is how mint they are and marking on them to me and how I was thought takes away from my little time capsules of art I dont knock anyone for doing what they love having books signed however my books will never be marked on
Personally I love getting my issues signed. Why? Because "Regie I want it" ☺️ I agree the person signing the book should ideally have had some input into that issue. Stan Lee is a hard one, as if he created the character in question I think that is ok. When I had a chance to meet him I didn't have a first print issue written by him so instead took a reprint of my favourite issue... Since then, I now have many 1st Prints, written by Stan but have sadly missed out on having his autograph on one. Maybe one day I will purchase one on the secondhand market. Keep up the great content, loving all the information so far. You've really taught me a lot. 👍
The only book I have signed, is my ASM #300. By the Todd father. Can't even send it to cgc for a yellow label. Got it signed before CGC eyewitness were even born.
I had a 9.8 Hulk 340 that i got signed and came back a 9.6. I was sad. I got it signed by Stan, Romita Sr, Peter David, Bob Wiacek and Todd Mcfarlane so im assuming sooo many hands on my book made it grade lower. Be cautious, people. Oh and once again, REGIE I WANT IT!!!!!!!!
In the video they talked about how a signature could reduce the grade of the book. I was wondering if CBCS does the same thing when they authenticate signatures then grade the book, or do they do something else?.@@RegieCollects
Lance Gemmell It’s a great question that I don’t know the answer too. The industry rumor is that CBCS grades more strictly than CGC but then again CGC deviates based upon experience. It’s a great question to ask CBCS. Let me know if they respond.
I don't Purposely go looking for sign books. But if I have a book in my collection and im going meet the artist or the inker Then yeah I'm a take oppurtunity. But I don't get them slabbed. Um yeah I want Regie.
Regie, I want it. I did have a Lazerus 1, but moved it on and put the money towards my purchase of X-Men 1. Another great video, plenty of things to think about. I tend to get things signed for me personally. I've never flipped a signed book yet. Wasn't aware of the possible downgrade because of the signature. Again, for me it would be ok as I wouldn't be looking to sell it on. I got my New Mutants 98 signed by Fabian Nicieza and it came back a 9.4, I'm now wondering if that was effected by the signature (again, not an issue, just curiosity). Do you think the graders notes would tell you if that was the case?
No, the graders notes won’t tell you that. It might be interesting to look at the graders notes to see what it does say however. Are there any notations that would warrant a 9.4?
@@RegieCollects Nothing on the label, it's white pages, can't see any spine issues either and corners look pretty sharp. It did have an impression in the book top and bottom where that white plastic binding cord you get had dug into it, but got the full press and clean. You can see a tiny bit still at the top, but only because I know where to look for it. That might be enough to drop it I guess, but it's the only slightly visible defect I can see. Not complaining though, it sat in a stack of books for 27 years and not in a long box. Might get the notes this weekend when I have time just to get a definitive answer
baxterleclair Sounds like a solid book. With that said, I wonder if it came down to the signature. Maybe that dropped it a little? 🤷🏾♂️ Still a great Boom from the sounds of it brother.
Got all my signed books signed back in the day in the white space at bottom of first page :) John Byrne (Avengers), Walt and Louise Simonson (Power Pack, Thor), Mike Grell (a few years worth of Green Arrow), Peter David (entire run on Hulk), Bernie Wrightson. Love 'em! Glad there are services that can authenticate old school sigs (CBCS's third party for example). Still don't understand why CGC hasn't added that to their services. The whole "ink on X" seems to dismiss things like you describe: Jack Kirby sig on splash page - I mean talk about many collector's dreams! Q: How did you get the person from CGC to go out and witness Romita Sr's sig? Is that a service they offer? I thought they only did that at shows. Learning from your awesome backlog content!
Thanks for the comment. CGC doesn’t want to risk damage to reputation from approving a fraudulent signatures. As you would image Jack Kirby and other popular signatures are often forged. CGChas opted to take a less risky approach by having facilitators/witnesses. Facilitators can witness signatures and submit on behalf of artist. Artists and creators can also submit directly to CGC. I have a video on the channel that explains facilitators. Hope this helps.
New Viewer to you.. but Old to comic collecting. So old that I read A.S.M. #1 when it came out.. so 65 now... Have loved Comics all my Life... thought you talked very Intelligently about collecting comics.. sorry about the #50 being lower, do you really think they lower it because of Signature, as it did have CGC Yellow Label, or maybe it got a under grade 7.0 grade on it's on merit. Have saw some odd Grading on some CGC Labels. I have some comics signed many years ago when Stan Lee did shows the last 30 to 40 years ago and signed. Guess those comics would be down graded ? Will be checking some of your older Videos. Ron
Welcome to the channel bud and thanks for the kind words. Please tell me that you have at least one copy of ASM 1. :-) The book started out as an unpressed, uncleaned, graded 7.5 from CGC. The book was signed, cleaned and pressed and came back at a 7.0. The book had been originally graded within the last year by the previous owner. Based upon my recent interviews with the head grader from CGC, signatures can have a negative impact on comics based upon quality of the signature, placement, size, etc. If you watch these interviews we also learn that grading is partly subjective. (Insert shrug here). At the end of the day, we'll never know the answer. I am more than pleased with the book and I'm still over the moon about meeting Stan Lee. That .5 was totally worth it. :-) Thanks again for taking the time to watch this video. I hope that you'll stick around and check out some of the other videos. Oh, and, let me know about that ASM. #SpideyFan
Hey Regie, You Know having met Stan about 3 times though the years, The first time was in the very late 80's & he was the only "Star" at the "very small" Convention in Coconut Creek, FL... He had a very long line and was Signing having Pic taken with him... took about 2 1/2 hours in the Line... but getting my turn was The Greatest Comic Fan Day of My Life, I laid out in Front of Him... AF #15 ASM #1 #2 #3 #4 #5 #6 .. He JUMPED OUT OF HIS CHAIR and gave me a hug! He even asked me "are you sure you want me to sign this!" I told him Please sign them... inside the splash page.. He Signed #6 cover & splash Page (2 Signatures) & about 3 or 4 pictures... He was only in His mid-sixtys and very energetic & gave a standing room only talk about Marvel, his was living in CA. by then and working on getting a Spider-man movie put together, (it took another 10 before that happen!) Now about the Spider-man #1.. we would trade comic books with our buddies in those days (early 60's) the book came back without a cover.. guess what, I never loaned out my Spider-mans after that.. but I of course replaced it in my early 30's before I me Stan.. sorry about the long winded reply..
Bud, if you are talking Stan Lee and Spider-Man you can take your time. I’m over here smiling like a idiot as I am reading your message. I wish that I would have hand a chance to meet Stan back in the day. My experience was VERY different than yours but it was still a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. I am in the process of trying to put together my Spider-Man run. I have #1 and #6 and several other low number books. I hope to get an AF15 before year’s end. Fingers crossed. ☘️ 🤞🏾 That’s sad about that ASM 1 but live and learn, right?!? As least you were able to “correct” it. Thank you for sharing that awesome story with me.
Great video, could it have been from the handling while being signed? I’ve seen some artist/writers/etc. roughly handle books and I cringe inside. How does CGC handle comics that are exclusive store signatures, like j Scott Campbell? Would they still get a qualified label? Not a huge huge fan of sigs, I’ve got some but a lot of it depends on the artist and cover. Def. still want to roll the dice so Regie I want it! Also came to the conclusion I’m done with raffles as well after last night 🤦♂️
Yeah man, I’ve cringed inside myself with the handling of some books at signings. CGC will take submissions directly from a artist or publisher for example and give them a yellow label. Outside of that, you’re-looking at a green label even with a COA. Oh boy. What happened last night??
Regie Simmons IFBB Pro last night I expected to lose, I only bought one spot, but it was the straw that broke the camels back lol. I’ve bought multiple spots in the past to increase my odds as much if not more than 70% and did not win. Just can’t do it anymore 😂
# Closetgeek I hear you brother. I’ve actually been contacted my some raffle-related companies because of the comments that I’ve made. Nothing bad but some good discussions. Thankfully you didn’t drop a ton last night. 👍🏾
Love the channel. (Question for you, I recently got a signed book which came with a certificate of authentication.) Can that be sent to CGC to get a "Yellow label" or does that need to be witness to get it. Is it worth doing? (I want to avoid the green label. lol) Thanks for your time. Keep up the good work.

Who are your favourite artist . I love Frank Miller Scott Campbell Scott znyder. Those are the top 3
Regie I had Stan sign my asm all black 9-11 tribute book and he signed with a BLACK sharpie lol but he resigned it in silver CGC recognized it as a Stan Lee double signed book!
Nice!
Haha
How about you?
Great video Regie!
signed books and raw books are both awesome but it’s the ultimate decision to make if you want it slabbed or not and having the potential grade change a bit because of a signature...tough one🤔
Regie I want it‼️
Regie I want it. Just found a cool Lazarus One Midtown Comics variant. Would be nice to add this one to the collection.
Egan Haddix Boom!
Great video, makes you think about what your goal in collecting is. I personally like my covers clean on my graded books. Reggie I want it.
Will definitely spell your name right from this point forward. 👍🏾👍🏾
Amen to that bro.
Excellent information. I appreciate you taking the time to go over signatures, and their potential effect on grading. I have never particularly felt the need to obtain signatures myself, with the one exception being Stan the Man. But at the risk of contradicting myself...Regie I want it.
Lol. No worries on the contradiction. You’re among friends. I hear you on the Stan signature. 👍🏾
Wanted to take a second to say thanks for the AWESOME content. I thoroughly enjoy all the content you are putting out all the way in Raleigh, NC. Keep it up!
Thank you very much. I appreciate you taking the time to say that. Be well.
Regie, I want it! Actually, I agree if I am going to get a book signed I like to put it in the splash page. Sometime I think putting a signature on the cover takes away from the artwork. Good video as always. Thanks!
I am actually considering going this way as well. A lot of the books that I have from my childhood are signed on the splash page.
Keep it up!
I actually don’t have any signed books as of yet, but definitely interested if the right person for the right book came around....Regie I want it
Amazing advice as usual!
Having said that, Regie, I want it haha
Thanks!
At the end of the day, it's all about being happy with the decisions that you make. Good stuff. Thanks for adding to the discussion.
Reggie I want it. I prefer to get cgc signature, cuz even if I never intend to sell my comics some day down the line it may need to be sold.
Great video. I'm got to have start answering you in videos. Regie, I want it👍
My favorite slab is a yellow label ASM 252 signed by JRJR! Love the Hobgoblin! ...that giveaway Lazarus though... Regie I want it!
Boom! I dig JRJR. Great book.
Regie I want it! I do like the idea of signing on the splash page since it has little impact on the grading.
That’s what I’m considering myself.
Thank you for your take on signatures I like them if the price for the sig isn’t too far out of reach. Regie I want it.
Love the knowledgeable and thought provoking content! Also Regie I want it!
BritishAtHeart357 Glad you enjoyed the video. I appreciate you.
I have hundreds if not thousands of signed comics. I do not own any slabbed books. I do not sell my comics. I do not care to speculate on the value of my comics. I am a comic book fan. The only investment I care about from my comics is my enjoyment of them.
Bronze Age John Good stuff. Thanks for commenting John. I appreciate you watching the video.
Great comment! I completely agree
I want it!😊
Thanks for watching bro even if signatures aren’t your thing. I appreciate that support.
I’ve had a few my comic book sign because I had them since middle school and still in good shape
I think each of us has to
do what’s right for our collections.
Boom! Thank you bud.
Good stuff Regie - you make some great points - I always wanted a Stan Lee signed book - mostly for how much respect I have for him and all he had done for comics. “Regie I want it”
Thanks for responding and watching the video.
This video is several months old and that giveaway has wrapped up. Sorry.
I have a few raw comics signed. I like the idea of having someone's signature who was involved with the book. Regie I want it.
Boom! I got you.
I got Stan to sign my ASM 33 and he signed it with a blue marker on the water portion of the book. At first I was a little bummed, but it looks really nice, the Blue pops enough to enjoy it but at the same time it doesn’t detract from the art either. Very happy with it
At the end of the day, if you’re happy then it works. Congrats bud.
Regie Simmons IFBB Pro love your vids, keep up the good work man!
Consider it done! 👊🏾👊🏾
You raised some excellent points bro. At the end of the day, I want folks (including myself) to make more informed decisions about our collections. I’ve made a few bone headed mistakes that could have been avoided if my bias for action had not gotten in the way.
Thanks for commenting and for the kind words.
Regie I want it. I like getting signatures for the experience and memory of meeting someone of who's work I enjoy.
Great video, lots to think about! Thanks! Regie, I want it!
I got you.
Dynamic Forces offers some great HIGH-END signed books their my go to! Great video finally some real knowledge on this subject! Being that i sale and deal in high-end books I really appreciate the way you expressed the key points in why they are a epic find or buy! 5 STARS
Thank you for the feedback bro. I really do appreciate the kind words.
Great video Regie. I have a few books that were singed inside the book. Regie i want it
I have a couple books signed on the inside of the book. Regie I want it!!! I need that book!👍🏻
Boom! I have many signed books that will never be slabbed...some are from my childhood, others were purchased and a few were gifts.
Regie Simmons IFBB Pro I’m planning to go to NY Comic-Con and hopefully I’d love to get sigs from Capullo , Paolo Rivera or Sean Murphy...?
Howlett Corps Boom! Good stuff brother. I wish you luck!
Have only gotten 4 books signed and cgc’d. I have also purchased about 5 to 10 already verified. Not big on it thou....Regie I want it
Great though gets exactly what I needed regie.
Good stuff Jon. It really is a great way to connect with some of your favorite creators.
Lol. Great post bro. You’ve been in a roll today. I appreciate you supporting the channel.
@@RegieCollects yeah. Finally had some time to sit down and bag and board some recent additions and I thought, "why not watch some Regie???"
Great great comment. The thought that you invest goes a long way. Thank you for offering that up.
Thank you for the content. I’ll have to re watch this vid shortly. Question- how do you get a book signed? Hand the book over with a backing board? Conic bagged and boarded with cut in area of desired signature?
The cutout seems to be the most popular approach. When my books were signed by Stan they have to be removed completely from the bad.
Reggie I want it! I got signatures of my favorite artists which are George Pérez and Neal Adams.
Neal Adams has an amazing fan base. I guess George does as well.
LOL. You are going deep today. I love it. It's reminding me of all the stuff that I've done. To be honest, you lose track of videos.
@@RegieCollects I can imagine it would be with all of your videos! But shows how great and informative they are that I binge watched them for hours today lol
Regie I want it. As I am collecting, I am finding that some collectors don’t want their comics signed. The feeling is it destroys the book.
I’m hearing the same thing. Have you found that it depends upon age of the collector?
Around 30-40 year olds. I find it also has to do with the fees that the artist are charging for the signature.
Boom! Number 2 might be coming your way. That’s for taking the time to watch the video and comment.
Good video.
Agreed. For me it’s about the experience. If the person has passed away that’s another story.
Reggie i want it. Thanks for the solid advice
Thank you Cody!
I got my first one back. Cable #1 signed by Rob Liefeld. Reggie I want it !
Very nice! How was it to meet Rob?
Regie Simmons IFBB Pro he was really nice. So energetic and thanked us for liking his work and being able to keep him doing the work.
I have personally never gotten a signature in person. Regie i want it 😬
Regie I want it I love the content you put out cause it is very helpful and makes me think in ways I never thought of before about my books so thank you
Great video, thanks for the comic education.
You’re very welcome.

So I had a couple questions I thought about after writing you...
Yes, the ASM 50 was unslabbed at. 7.5 then signed twice, pressed and re-graded at a 7. It’s all good because I have two amazing signatures from Stan and Romita Sr. 😀
I believe that a remark is treated the same as a signature.
Marc Silvestri will sign my Cyber Force 1 and Darkness 1 because I'm on a mission Regie you already know 😆
Ha. I hear you bro. I’m not made at you. You have a goal. Crush it.
Regie I want it. My signed books are from actors on the cover or a character they in the series.
Love the videos, really helpful and interesting talks! Regie I want it
Thanks you Youssif. I’m trying to put out some thought provoking content.
if i have a Karate Kommando (Chuck Norris comic) and i have Chuck Norris sign it would that be unwise? He created the cartoon the comic was based on. Hes also in the comic.
It sounds like you think it would be a good idea and that’s more important than what I think.
For the record, meeting Chuck and getting a signature from him would be awesome. 😜🤣
Crazy timing putting out this video. I just put out a video starting a series of me showing off my collection of signatures. Check it out if you want:
Signature Collection Part 1 - 57 SIGNED BOOKS!
LOL. Thanks for keeping it fun brother. You're in. And, I agree with the Stan comment.
Thank bro! all the questions you presented helped me make my decision to get my conan 1 signed by roy thomas, much appreciated!
You are welcome!
@@RegieCollects the cover of conan 1 really has no place to put a signature. Do you it would be wise to have him sign it on the back? Thank you
I only have two things signed both I got from mystery box lol. Reggie I want it lol
Sometimes those old comics with a permanite marker bleed through to the splash page and reduces grade. Just to let ya know :)
I am actually not sure that it impacts grade. The grade is essentially based upon the cover. But, you can check with your third party grader to confirm.
Great job man it's definitely sentimental for me cuz I love collecting and I always take my kids with me so it always reminds me of being with them Reggie I want it please
That’s alright! That’s a wonderful use of time. I can’t wait until mine are old. Thanks for supporting the channel bro.
You can have them sign in the back, at the top. Seeing that more oftentimes. I like buying signed books, so I don't have to do it.
I just saw a book signed on the back the other day. It was Stan’s signature. To be honest, it was super weird. 😂🤪 I’m leaning towards the old school approach of splash page signature-if I get anything signed.
@@RegieCollects I hear you, but if you know they sign big. Then back is the way to go or to sell.
I have over 8k books and I can say I have no markings on my little capsules of art however I have tons of signatures over the last 25 years but not on my books I'm one of those collectors you made great points and this is a outstanding video for those who are into it
Thank you Peanut. I’m curious what you are having people sign? You captured my interest.
I have original art, lithographs, print art, newspaper art, have some photographs signed, canvas art some things I've bought signed and some I've had signed I even had video games signed but not my books my mentor who I got my books off of over the years was a illustrator for Disney and he made sure I wouldn't ruin the art on the books he pounded it in my head in my attalessinces constantly what makes my books valuable is how mint they are and marking on them to me and how I was thought takes away from my little time capsules of art I dont knock anyone for doing what they love having books signed however my books will never be marked on
peanut_ R-MAN That’s alright. Thanks for adding to the discussion. Sounds like a great collection and awesome mentor.
Personally I love getting my issues signed. Why? Because "Regie I want it" ☺️
I agree the person signing the book should ideally have had some input into that issue.
Niles Effort You’ll probably get a green label versus yellow.
Beautiful Lower third bro!!!
Thanks bro.
Great video!!! Regie I want it!
I love getting them signed and graded. also it protects the books
Great video! Answered a lot my questions! Thank you !
You are welcome
I had a 9.8 Hulk 340 that i got signed and came back a 9.6. I was sad. I got it signed by Stan, Romita Sr, Peter David, Bob Wiacek and Todd Mcfarlane so im assuming sooo many hands on my book made it grade lower. Be cautious, people. Oh and once again, REGIE I WANT IT!!!!!!!!
Hey Regie I want it. Thanks. Does CBCS grade signed books differently?
Lance Gemmell Hey Lance! In what sense are you asking? I want to make sure I answer you correctly.
Reggie I want it .. great video 🤘🏿
I don't Purposely go looking for sign books. But if I have a book in my collection and im going meet the artist or the inker Then yeah I'm a take oppurtunity. But I don't get them slabbed. Um yeah I want Regie.
Boom!
I have an Arthur Adams signature on an X-men annual 10 and Reggie I want it
Got all my signed books signed back in the day in the white space at bottom of first page :) John Byrne (Avengers), Walt and Louise Simonson (Power Pack, Thor), Mike Grell (a few years worth of Green Arrow), Peter David (entire run on Hulk), Bernie Wrightson.
The book started out as an unpressed, uncleaned, graded 7.5 from CGC. :-)
Thanks again for taking the time to watch this video.
That’s sad about that ASM 1 but live and learn, right?!? As least you were able to “correct” it.
Thank you for sharing that awesome story with me.
Awesome video! But how did your Hulk 181 not get a yellow or green label since I was signed? Either way, it’s a sweet slab!
It is a yellow label.
Yellow labels from CGC must be witnessed or sent directly by a creator. A pre-signed book would have to be sent to CBCS. Sorry.
the worst signature is Barry Windsor Smith fantagraphic books...Regie i want it
Only have jscottcampbells. Love the video
Thanks Niall!
Reggie I want it! I’m a huge signature collector
