    Thank you for your commitment to this, John! You are one of the few investigators on youtube who actually do real research before they make videos. I hope you can get into the courtroom in december. I am really cuious about the trials.

    Regarding the hotel's maintenance employee who helped police find Elisa in the water tank---when he found a body in the tank he said, "....I looked inside and found an Asian woman floating face up in the water...." My question is after all that time that Elisa's body was in that water, (several weeks) could someone who wasn't a doctor really be able to tell if the victim was Asian OR a woman? Aren't these bodies pretty unrecognizable after being in the water for that long?? If so, this raises my suspicions about this maintenance worker.

    • @LordanARTS
      @LordanARTS  8 лет назад +4

      +Kaye Lystad Kirk A few people have mentioned this. The autopsy does confirm that you could tell it was an Asian woman, although one eye had some form of serious bulging. I think because it was a water tank that the usual elements for water decomp weren't available (namely animals).

    Really is Elisa an outgoing and friendly young woman going to,say to herself ' I'm going to the roof , ...swim/ commit suicide in a water tank! and I'm going to get nude and keep my clothes in the water tank '! Yes she was bipolar , but she was a sane and functioning young woman on holiday! Definitely foul play involved in her death ,

      +Cherry Metha People may act like everything is ok when it's actually not. That's what I do too. No one knows what's inside my head, so..

      True. The majority of people do . Otherwise you'd find people crying loudly etc as they are walking down the street! We all learn to 'hold it together' from an early age. But what I meant about Elisa is that they used her bipolar condition as an excuse to justify her death as a suicide.As I said before , it is unheard of that someone goes into a water tank on the roof of a hotel, naked, to commit suicide ! It's insulting to Elisa's memory to even suggest that!

    • @flpideas1
      @flpideas1 8 лет назад

      +Cherry Metha They say it was an accident, not suicide.

      +Edan Sounds No, not suicide: murder. Tossed her in when dead; tossed in her clothes. Someone who knew hotel, about water tanks on roof and potential escape down fire escapes on outside building.

    • @LucidDream
      @LucidDream 8 лет назад +2

      +Cherry Metha She didn't seem to be that outgoing really. From her blog it suggests that she spent a lot of time alone. A person who is better at communicating on the internet than in person. I actually really relate with her on the topic of depression. Just curious, are you bipolar? I've been diagnosed, even though I don't even like to really use the term to describe myself. Sure, it does seem pretty excessive and I don't personally feel like it was suicide. That being said, I've actually been to a point where I was seriously contemplating suicide. I was literally sitting on the edge of a cliff in the middle of the night by myself. Given that everybody is different, it also can be said that depression affects people in various ways. When you get to a point where you are contemplating suicide, you're really not thinking very rationally. It's a strong sense of hopelessness that is very hard to explain to people who haven't felt it themselves. In that moment, I wouldn't put it past anybody to do anything abnormal or extreme. It's scary. A lot of people have that impression of me too...that I'm pretty happy and productive. But that's usually not the case at all. I find her impulsive trip to go from Canada to California to be something like I've thought about doing in a time of mania. I've driven across the state once on little to no money just to get away once...had to have somebody come get me because I ran out of gas.

    He noticed immediately it was the body of an asian woman , not just a women's body , one would assume decomposition would make distinguishable characteristics not easily recognizable. Hes statement sounds incredibly rehearsed.

    • @ooyo8253
      @ooyo8253 8 лет назад +3

      Bastian P yes, especially in water after weeks of decomposition. Asain skin (as in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc. Not Indian) with a yellowish/caramel undertone like Elisa had would look the same as Caucasian skin after being dead in water for that long because they get greyer in color after death. But then again the employees at the Cecil were well aware that a guest of theres had gone missing and shown pics of her so they knew her ethnicity so they might have put two and two together when finding the body.

    • @sbstnpofadder

      Jo Molly After thinking about it for a while i thought the same , so he actually took enough time to stare at the cadaver , instead of just alerting authorities rite away , which most people i believe will do. Suppose could've happened that way also.

      Bastian P ...I think based on the police dogs not smelling anything, that the body wasnt put in the water right away. After binge watching all of Lordans videos on this, it appears to me that the hotel was lying about their roof alarm door, also makes sense about the real estate company wanting to cover up the death because of bad timing for their companies plans. I do think the maitenence man who had been employed there for 30 yrs could easily have been manipulated to hide the body.

    The thing about the body being 12 inches from the top of the tank... sorry I may have got this very very wrong, but I was sure that I have heard the tank was 2 thirds full when she was found? Also the fact he says that he had to disable the alarm does the hotel no favours, as it pretty much concludes that either the system wasn't working OR it was re-activated after she found her way up there. From what I hear about this article, it raises a lot of questions that I find hard to understand. 12 inches in a tank that was open? Very confusing but definitely interesting to finally hear from the guy that found her. Great episode, John! On to the facts video :D

    • @_JoJo83_
      @_JoJo83_ 9 лет назад +8

      +Veggie Gamer I thought that too straight away as John read it out! Ive read, and heard it said, many times, that it was 2 thirds full when her body was found. I also took note that the guy made a big point to mention how he had to disable the alarm on the door. I find it quite unusual his manner of remembering the day in the interview. And then, if that lid was open, then why didn't the police check it out, like John mentioned. That's the part that drives me insane with questions, which I have said to John before. How could the dogs not smell her scent up on the roof? And now with this new case, how everyone was able to smell the body, even with the lid closed. How the heck did the police not smell her then? Poor Elisa. Great work John!!!

      The tank being 2/3 full when the body was found, doesn't mean that the water was at the same level when Elisa got in the tank. During the period between disappearing and being found the level might have strongly fluctuated.
      Maybe there was more water in the tank when she was found, because less people used the water due to the taste, colour and smell of the water.

      +Multiscan0001 I am pretty sure you're correct with your assumption, but I was just going by when her body was found. I had only heard reports that the tank was 2/3 full, but now this employee who found her body is now saying that the water was 12 inches from the top. Definitely not disputing what you're saying, but just clarifying how I'm seeing things. :-)

    I wonder if for instance someone did murder her (I think that's what happened) and maybe they hid her body in their room or somewhere else temporarily, then threw her body in the tank at night after the search was done? Maybe that's why they didn't find her on the roof during the search OR employee(s) at the hotel involved in her murder wanted the body to be submerged in water for a while so there would be less evidence on it so they dissuaded the police from looking there for as long as they could.

    I added some research I did recently on drowning and more specifically how a person drowns over in the comments on your video 'Retracing the steps of Elisa Lam' {I'm not sure if you've a already seen it so I won't rehash it all} But to sum it up, and I've included excerpts from Wiki about the mechanisms of drowning and corroborating material from Elisa's autopsy report: If a person enters the water alive and conscious, their body will fight. The vocal chords lock for a short time, preventing water entering the body. During this fight for life, a living person would first swallow water, investing it into the stomach. This would happen before water was drawn into the lungs. But according to Elisa's autopsy report, there was no water, or brown water in Elisa's stomach, in fact her stomach contained red liquid that was described as scant/ a slight amount.

    She really looked like she was having a paranoid episode plus the fact that she didn't have her glasses on. She might have gone into the water tank trying to find a place to hide, thinking someone was after her. That would explain her covering herself up inside. So sad!

      Rachael Says wow so she must have been unconscious when she went into the water.. nothing else makes sense. Even if she jumped in and swam until she couldn't swim anymore...unless she fell asleep but would she swallow water if she passes out from exhaustion or falls asleep?? what was in her stomach?? And didnt they say someone was sending messages from her phone during the time she was dead. And I keep seeing people saying there were men's shorts in the water tank??? If so did they find her clothes?

You should really check it out and put with your comment definitely shows someone must have been involved! I don't care if it was a guy just wanting to be naked with her and he left thinking she could get out or maybe he killed her but whatever and whoever need to come forward and do some dang talking!

    The case still give more, why was not investigated to a child molester who was a tenant at the Cecil Hotel, named Alvin Taylor?, why an audio expert has not analyzed the video to detect any type of indeterminable normal human voice with players?, Why has not given importance to the testimony of an elderly tenant who has spent years living there, and therefore, knows the sounds of the hotel and said that the night before the event he heard a loud knock on the ceiling?, why not have also considered the last photo cell Elisa Lam, wearing a black jacket with hood and covering with cell face, which is unusual when compared with other your photos and usual clothes ?, Why have not shared the videos of the bookstore that night visited Elisa Lam and videos of the security cameras of the streets where she transited ?, why not I strongly call attention not only serial murderers have been at the Cecil Hotel, but apparently all the victims have been women? There are many elements to think that it is a cover up.

      +Martín Vázquez Many good questions. We are now hearing information that in my mind may be pointing us to a misinformation campaign that was being run by someone when this originally happened. Perhaps the investigators leaked bad info to know who was just reciting newsprint and who had accurate info. We had the wrong floor, the hatch wasn't closed, are now know there is more footage showing her with two men that gave her a box. As if the list of questions wasn't large enough, now we have to wonder where all this incorrect info originally came from (and why).

    The water level of the tank probably changes everyday? If she climbed in maybe she couldn't get out cause the water was a few feet lower than the top. Maybe she had even swam in the tank the day before, if she had spent a lot of time in the hotel, she could of figured out how to get on the roof, it's always a fun thing to do when exploring a building. She looks like she's just playing around in the elevator like a child playing by themselves, the elevator stops working because she pressed the hold door button, then she comes back and presses all the floors, then leaves.

  • @83joonior
    @83joonior 9 лет назад +2

    Huh. Just watched AHS last night; didn't know it was based off the same hotel. In the article you read off it said the maintenance guy had to turn off the alarm on the door to the roof; on your visit to the hotel it was apparently not functioning? Also, he said the water tank cover was unsecured.. so either she hopped in there herself and accidentally drowned or she was drowned by hand before the lid was placed on. Then again, someone could toss her in there and just sit on the cover. She wasn't drunk; she wasn't even chloroformed (chloroform stays in the body indefinitely and would be picked up by toxicology), so we can rule that out. Unless the coroner is in on it.
    Also, the coroner report states "They reported that her body had been found naked in the tank, about half to three-quarters full, with the clothes she appeared to have been wearing in the elevator video floating in the water alongside her, coated with a "sand-like particulate". Along with them were her watch and room key". Strange that her clothes were removed, although who knows what one would do if in that situation. I wonder if the particulate it just part of the filtering system.

    Good point about why wouldn't the police just search the tanks while they where up there? Maybe they are trying to cover up their actions handling this case because they made mistakes. Hence maybe that's why the video footage appears to have been tampered with. Also, they fact that the worker mentions that he instantly recognized her as an Asian woman may be an indicator that, he was in fact, coached on what to say. She had already been up there decomposing and ive read reports that her body had expanded due to the water. If this is true, its highly unlikely he would of just saw her dead body and instantly recognized she was Asian. That comment made me wonder if he was being scripted on what to say.

    I have been following this case intensely and I think I may have a few answers. I suffer from temporal lobe epilepsy, its not the kind of epilepsy where you have physical fits. My symptoms when I have a fit are irregular hand and leg movements, slurred, slow speach, lack of awareness of my surroundings and general confussion. When I have these fits I am conscious and able to do things like walk upstairs and open doors. I cannot however operate a telephone communicate very well, or judge the distance of objects easily. I also like many other people who have these fits, tend to take my clothes off. I also gravitate towards water, several times after having these fits I have woken up in the bath, probably because everything else in my him feels confusing and water seems familiar. I do not see danger when I am having these, I am as far as I can recall seeing something to make sense of the confusion in my brain.these episodes tent to happen when I am under alot of stress or when I am travelling. I also get intense emotions of either joy or fear for several hours before I have a fit. And my doctor suggested bi polar to me before the seizure diagnosis. Seeing the vidoe of Elisa is like seeing myself while havin a fit, hand movements, the way she gets close to the elevator panel because of blurred vision, confussion, odd displays of emotion it all ties in. My fits tend to last about a hour then afterwards I am exhausted and pretty much pass out for at least 4 hours. Most people who incounter me while fitting think I'm drunk, on drugs or insane. I tend to have these fits in clusters, about 3 in a 24 hour period. Then nothing for several wks. Epilepsy will not show up in a autopsy unless there is any brain trama. I feel this is wat Elisa was suffering with, untreated undiagnosed temporal lobe epilepsy.

    I still haven't watched all of your videos on Elisa Lam but is it possible for someone to carry her body to the tanks and leave the hatch open to make it seem like she went in herself? Maybe that's why the dogs didn't catch her scent? I thought of this because the alarm for the roof never sounded either, unless it was broken at the time.

    In the LAist article about the history of The Cecil Hotel, many of the convicted criminals or victims staying in that hotel are in their early 20's. The most common age that I saw was 24 years old which happened to coincide with the year the hotel was built, 1924. It's very interesting that many young people were drawn to this place over a span of a couple of decades and the deteriorating social structure around the hotel during that same time as well.

    Not to mention as u said even IF she had an accident or wanted to suicide or sleepwalk she wouldnt have to get her clothes in after her and close the lid AND even if those were the cases u would think the moments before death took her she would of struggled somehow in that tank its a normal body reaction reflex when its not an instant death method so some evidence would bee left on...the mass media and specially the police its HIGHLY suspicios in this the way they handled this case its like a bad fairytail

    • @vlada131
      @vlada131 9 лет назад +2

      +Multiscan0001 It doesn't make any sense to strip naked before committing suicide, true, but it does make a lot more sense if she had intended to just go in for a swim, and not kill herself. If you want to swim somewhere, for whatever reason, and you don't have a bathing suit with you, the most logical thing to do is take off all of your clothes before entering the water. If she'd really wanted to kill herself, she would've kept her clothes on, because it would have made her death quicker and more certain, after all.

    • @Multiscan0001
      @Multiscan0001 9 лет назад +4

      +Brett Warr exactly. You would think she would leave everything on a heap outside the tank. Or just kill herself fully clothed.
      I read somewhere that most people who commit suicide do want to be found in a "normal" way. Fully clothed or naked with clothes on a pile (neat or not). I never heard of someone jumping in water, but undress himself and throws all the clothing with him in the water.

    Hey John I guess you answered the transient street guy's question, Superman won the fight against Spiderman. If you go back to the hotel maybe you shouldn't wear the shirt just in case there are more Spiderman than Superman fans lurking about (^~^). I really enjoy the way your thorough investigative and inquisitive mind works. I can see you really want to find the truth about what happened and perhaps some justice will come out of this process.

    I just dont think that the killer could get a body on the tank, it is unreal, he should be like Schwarzenegger to lift her body and and just do all that that job to get her in on top of the tank and if he was big like Arnold lol then while he taking her in there she would definitely got way more little damages than just that one on her knee. If we assume she did it herself, then its also unreal, this is why i still think its paranormal but lets keep investigating good job John i feel like with time we can put all pieces together to complete the picture of what really happened so maybe there is nothing paranormal

      I've often considered that she was forced to get in on her own... perhaps at gun point/knife point/etc. I've heard she had debris from the roof's flooring on her clothing that was in the tank. Was she laying on the roof at some point before her death? Possibly making out or heavily flirting with the person who took her up there? Maybe she rejected some of his advances? He snaps from that and out of fury pulls a weapon on her, forcing her into the tank? Oh boy I've thought about this a LOT. I really worry about AHS dramatizing her case. I don't think it will be the type of publicity that will lead to solving her murder, but rather I think it may immortalize and turn it to stone in it's current phase... and sadly I think it will hinder any possibility of Elisa recieving the justice she so deserves. **sad panda**

    hi...your channel is wonderful.... i stumbled about the elisa lam case few month ago..and letting it go then for a while...only to come across that particular case few days ago...searching the web for news about this case at least i landed here on this channel. it is for sure the most objectiv and most informativ channel about this case...and i think about other cases ofc :) btw...surfing google took me to another case wich is kinda similar and happen in the beginning of 2017....i only found few things about this case on a wordpress blog .... i am talking about the case of "Elaine Park".... if i can belive the blog...she was nearly same age "20".... had the same height....same weight....(lil more )....was asian....and dissapear very close ( 49miles) to the hotel where elisa was found dead. she sufferd from nearly same illnes....idk what i should think about the case....i am from germany so may u have more information about it.... link of the blog is here : elisalampodcast.wordpress.com

    So you are saying the employee opened the water tank and then after seeing the body, he put the lid back on, called the police and waited for the police to arrive so they could take the lid back off? Whether or not the employee found it open or closed, I would assume a person would peak in and say "OH MAH GAWD" and instantly call the police without touching anything else. I tend to believe it was off when the police arrived, therefore, their statement of it being on, but not secured would be inaccurate. I am simply going by what seems realistic to me of course. If I seen a dead body in a tank, you sure as hell ain't going to see me replacing heavy lids and shit before I call the police. I am going to leave it as is the minute I seen a body. If the employee did in fact put the lid back on, because of smell and what not, maybe that is why the police stated it was on, but not secured...when in fact, it had been off all along, but only replaced by the employee the minute he found the body.
    Also, since I am bing watching your video's... It could be "assumed" she took her own clothes off in the tank, because wet clothing does weigh you down and depending on how long she stayed alive in the tank, it could seem to become heavier and heavier as hours pass by especially if its cold, because those wet clothes are not going to warm you up. We have seen this in the rivers around where I live that people that get caught up in the current, tend to strip down because of the weight. I realize this is still water, but it is the first thing that came to mind when I heard her clothes were floating about her.
    And because I am long winded, I will add in that the difference between Santa Fe and LA, could be temperature. I have not looked up the difference between Santa Fe in September vs LA in January, but it could be plausible that it plays a part in the smell... as well as the depth of water each body was in.

    American Horror Story Hotel so far has not shown anything like Elisa's case. However the Hotel Cortez looks very like the Cecil. In the opening scenes they pan across the front of the building and I thought 'Heck! They really chose a double of the Cecil. The entryway, reception and many of the interior features are like those at the Cecil too. Panning down the hallways is very reminiscent of watching the amateur videos on here of those brave enough to infiltrate the Cecil Hotel. But so fat nothing on Elisa {England gets AHS about two episodes behind the US. I will be keeping a very close eye on developments😉

    Has it ever been reported that perhaps maintenance was to be done the day Elisa disappeared, and that being how she was able to access the roof without sounding off alarm? I'm not sure of the alarm system there (it's pretty dubious) but if it's controlled remotely, or from a location in the building far from the actual door, I think if that happened she may have been followed up there and went through whatever events leading up to her death, and whom ever was accessing the roof while Lam snuck up there, only went up for some equipment for inside the hotel. Anyone's got thoughts on this theory?

    Is the wrongful death civil suit available for viewing anywhere? All the hotel has to do is respond to the specific wording of the suit itself and its prayer for relief. They don't have to make any attempt to solve her death just respond to what is alleged in writing. The wiki article says the suit claims the hotel failed to inspect and seek out hazards that presented an unreasonable risk of danger. The motion for summary judgment contains statements by the employees that seem to answer that. That there were inspections and the employees were aware of the alarm systems and how they operate. And how much restrictions there are to gaining access to the water tanks that they're aware of.
    If there seems to be some details and facts missing it would be because they're response is tailored to what is written in the suit only. I'm wondering how the hotel responded to the class action suit filed by guests and how that matter was resolved.
    But about the lid to the tank being left open. Wouldn't an open source of water in a hot arid climate with a corpse in it attract swarms of insects? If the police were up there looking for a dead body and heard the buzz of insects or saw a swarm or maybe just a few buzzing around in one area you'd think they would consider that a very huge clue to finding said body.

    You know, I love AHS. It's great horror and not the normal shit you see from other stuff. Out of good horror tv, I saw this and Penny Dreadful are the good ones. Some people got bent out of shape over the new seasons, first epi. Some people are to sensitive to what horror is. I'm not saying all of horror is what AHS is. Horror is not suppose to be safe. From scary to shocking. Not everyone has to like the same thing, but respect what horror is. Personally, shocking things don't get to me. I can sit peacefully during the rape scene in the real I Spit On Your Grave, not the remake. It may not sound right, but things don't get to me as much. I'm more about viewing it and then working on solving it. So in the form of film, watching it and figuring out what will happen.
    I will say about the makers of AHS, they do seem to be respectful. When it came to Coven, they didn't continue to make the victims of Salem to be witches. They said, which the innocent women were being hanged, the real witches got out of Salem". The only one they marked as being a witch was the black slave that was forced into admitting she was a witch. I do hope they are respectful with with not just Elisa, but the other victims of cecil. And from what I've seen from the first epi, it does look like what was described by you and others on cecil. I believe I tweeted you about it, but not sure you got it. I can keep you updated on it.

    The key fact that doesn't seem to be addressed is that the tank she was in was the primary tank and thus on level control, the pump is clearly seen that brings water into the tank from near the center top. Systems like this can control level to within an inch easily. Flow to the next three tanks would be mechanical, siphon, and apparently flesh blocked the siphon, low pressure, flows such that the tanks emptied reducing the water pressure of the higher rooms, not so much in the lower floors which still would have had sufficient liquid height. But the water level in HER tank should have stayed constant as it was on level control, and in that sort of system the full volume of the tanks is used for design efficiency so it can be assumed that the primary tank was set to maintain a high level, probably more than 90%, which would make the hatch less than two feet above a person in the water. It should have been easy to grab the hatch as a 5'5" person can easily reach 2 feet above water level. If the level control system was functioning normally, she should have been able to extricate herself from the tank. Regardless of all the other possibilities, the simple question is why did she not just climb out. It's either suicide or murder by manipulation of the water level control apparatus. Suicide by insanity makes the most sense.
