Wow!! I had no idea gluing plants down was a thing!! I would've thought it was fake. So crazy!
Right?! It's so odd & unnecessary!
It really is! My guess was maybe it was too top heavy but then you repotted it with no problem. I don't get it. Great job btw 😎
I saw one of those at wal-mart and tought it was a fake plant!! Next tine ill buy it and rescue the poor thing
Mariah Beegle, I always complain of the lousy plant treatment on the surveys that come with the receipts.
It's safer for the plant during shipping and keeps the soil in place. The glue is water soluble and safe for the plant. It's just a shame that they forget to tell people this. I guess they just assume people will water the plant as normal and the gravel will loosen up on its own.
was this in my recommended even tho I’ve never watched a single video about plants?
Yes
did I still watch the whole video because it might be useful in the future even tho I don’t own a single plant?
Yes
Kiara Dixon HAHAHAHAHA
I will never buy a glued plant
have you gotten a plant now?
Rainbow Palad yes but I made sure it wasn’t glued down hahahah
One year later... Covid struck... Soooo, how many plants are in your house jungle now??? 🧐😂😂
I have never seen or heard of ever using glue on plants of any kind. I thought you were going to say he accidentally bought an artificial plant.
Strange , very strange!
I have a cactus plant that the rocks ontop of the soil are glued together and to the side of the pot :( they are impossible to get out!
The glue is used to keep the rocks in place during shipping. I had to do this when moving. The glue is loosened with hot tap water, then you can break up the chunks.
@@TerranTaro break the pot
Grandma gave me a succulent that was like this
I just rescued an air plant that was glued down at Giant… and it was clearance on a shelf that didn’t get any light 😢
My favorite thing to do at Lowe’s is to go to the Clearance plant section and find the “ugliest” plants they have and bring them home and love them lmao
I love wonky looking plants too! It's fun to nurse them back to health & see their progress (:
Me too! I feel so bad for them. My family thinks I’m the weird eccentric plant lady haha
It’s the reason why I’m watching this video today 😂 Bought s glued down sago palm from clearance at Lowe’s and now I’m lost at how to repot and save it.
Thank you Harli! This was helpful. Just need to look for a similar tool haha
Lowe’s has ton of plants on clearance today and I did the same thing 😂
no one:
RUclips recommendations: “ here, enjoy a video of a plant lady rescuing a super glued plant :)”
Llama gang haha idk why that keeps happening with this video specifically 😂
Harli G honestly I’m happy it happened I was genuinely entertained and I subscribed😂💕
Yeah I've noticed yt Recomendations have been way off. They started showing me Recomendations for sports and video games and make up tutorials- all things I have NEVER watched & have zero interest in. I miss the old yt? :(
Same and I subscribed as soon as you said ‘non plant people’
Plants glued in pots, painted succulents, and fake flowers hot glued to cacti.
The non-plant person trifecta.
You forgot air plants hot glued to random shit, though maybe it's just here that they're common.
I saw three poor cacti with paper flowers hot glued on to them a month ago and I was actually astonished people even did that! It’s a living thing! All you have to do is wait long enough for it to sprout it’s own! I have a few cacti in my bedroom (best window in the house for sunlight) and one of them is growing a crown already! It’s so wonderful!
i hate those stupid hot glued flowers :(((
My best friend bought two cacti that where both glued in the media and had a flower glued on top, The poor thing
Heck at my Lowes they're starting to move beyond paper. They're just using straight up plastic flowers now! At least the paper ones were semi convincing... maybe... to someone who doesnt know any better. But the plastic ones are so obvious, shitty, and cheesy looking.
I wonder how they get away with that? Are buyers really that oblivious, or do they just not care?
That fancy knife thing is an actual butter knife.
Yes, it is. When you buy a whole set in "olden" days, there was always a butter knife.
@@shirleysrussell6235 I got a set a few months ago and it came with one. But it was stupid expensive. So it might just be the "fancy" sets that have them now.
isn' t it a knife for fish meat?
It's actually a fish knife. You're supposed to use the pointed end to pick bones out of fish and you can use the wide flat blade to lift chunks of fish or slide under the skin or smear sauce on the meat.. I haven't seen one of those outside of having dinner with elderly people.
It looks like a butter knife. It isn’t sharp enough for a fish knife
Where can I find a gardening tool
*checks kitchen first*
HAHAHA
Well hey kitchen tools work great! I use them all the time too from table spoons to forks just to get old soil off of roots that have balled up too much. Why buy expensive tools when you can use what you have in the house already :D
Lol that's a butter knife 😅
Katherine Canon it’s actualy a fish knife.....
“I’m not fancy enough for this. I’ll stick to my butter knife.”
...she says holding a butter knife
its not a butterknife, its a fish knife
Not a fish knife, fish knife curve inward at the tip on one side....its a butter knife
Ummm, it’s for paint.. it’s called a pallet knife, they come in all shapes and sizes, but the way that the handle is shaped is unmistakable.
totally a butter knife
It is a butter knife. www.libertytabletop.com/product/pearl-foodservice-butter-knife/
"I'll stick with my butter knife" ....
and is holding an actual butter knife 😂
THIS is the quality content I look for.
I AM HONORED.
I hope y’all know it’s poison
Those painted succulents drive me mad. This is the exact method I use. Lol. Pound the heck outta those rocks. 😂 much love and many blessings.
Me too! They are beautiful without it. I wish they would just stop! I really want to call the big box store suppliers & get to the bottom of their thought processes :P
we've also had succulents with glitter on them😭😂 like whyy it looks so damn stupid plus kills the plant in a week *sigh*
Can you save painted succulents?
Ms Linda Luu You can but you have to be willing to scrape a little off at a time with a toothpick and plain water. It’s very tedious work but it can be done.
I see painted succulents in the grocery store floral section. Drives me crazy, too. I'm sure they're supposed to be impulse purchases for people who know nothing about plants. I get all my succulents and cacti at a local plant nursery/greenhouse that has an excellent houseplant collection. I see no point in buying a painted plant just to "rescue" it, as I don't want the stores to profit off it. My dollars go towards my local plant nursery, where the plants are well-taken care of by knowledgeable staff.
Wtf, who glues a living thing!?
RIGHT?!
Hermit crabs are also often glued into plastic shells and die from stress
The ER lol
Sarahs Pokecenter omg that’s awful! I know they have their shells cracked so they move into the cute, colorful ones, but I didn’t knew they were glued in!
I mean...aquarium owners glue plants to rocks and driftwood
I’m 12 I live in England and I feel like I’m the only boy in the school who knows about plants 🌱 I’m growing sunflower 🌻 and 🌹 and am currently germinating some seeds lol 😂 pls tell me I’m not the only one
I am your age but a girl and everyone thought they were boring till I started growing them
I think your awesome
I’m not gonna day my age! But most people I know have a black thumb so it’s kinda boring to be the only plant person! But it is nice to work with the pants!
*Glued plants is one of my BIGGEST pet peeves! I will never understand it! Thanks for rescuing him!!*
“I laugh to keep from crying”
Me too girl.. me too 😂
Cheeses, you really have weird stuff in the US... I never would imagine, that someone would GLUE A PLANT inside a pot! Love your channel, hugs from Europe! :)
It's so annoying! I'm glad it doesn't happen everywhere though. Thank you so much!
Never seen glued ones. I have seen spray painted plants 😑
@Satuja Aikuisille Same here!
Seen some in the uk! I’ve repotted 2 species of aloe that were in pits with bright yellow stones glued down😭 was so satisfying to stab away the stones
I'm from Belgium en recently got a glued cactus as a gift, it looks too fragile to use this method though.
"I'll stick to my butter kife"
As she's holding a butter knife
@Michelle Phan its a butter serving knife
Victorian butter knife
@Michelle Phan its a serving butter knife...like for on tables with bread and butter
@@leftinthedust3900 It's an offset butter knife.
It's a butter knife. At a fancier table setting, you will find a community butter knife like that one for taking a pat of butter from the community butter and placing it on your plate. You return the community butter knife near the community butter and then use the more familiar butter knife at your place setting to spread the butter on your bread. Kids now days....no manners at all! *she says in her gruffest grandma voice*
Made me cry. So sad😞But I know Harli will lovingly nurse it back to Health And love it.
Harli: Awww these roots are so small it’s so cute :)
Me: LEMME SEE THOSE TINY ROOTS >:(
Harli: *shows roots*
Me: AWWWWW
Awww haha you are so great! ❤️
What type of plant is that
4:00 ''No offence but i'm just gonna sit you in here for a second'' i cant 😂
Haha ooops...
For those people who are going to buy a glued plant, they should really consider a plastic plant...
Yup, 100%! I actually have a fake succulent sitting with my real succulents, and every single non-plant person that has Ever looked at them genuinely thought the fake one was real. So yeah to those people, if you really like the look of a glued succulent, and don't truly care to take care of a plant... Just get a plastic one. It'll fool everyone who doesn't know better.
Simon yeah! West elm has super cute fake succulents I have one for an area of my room with no sun :)
I buy glued plants bring them home and rescue them! 🥰
Before anyone goes chipping away at their plants with a kitchen knife it's probably worth mentioning that the glue used for these is water soluable and designed to keep the plant looking presentable during shipping. As you water the plant the gravel should become loose without having to resort to chipping at it. If you don't want to glue getting into the soil you can mist the gravel to loosen it up then transfer to a bowl and rinse it clean before putting it back in place.
I had one and repotted it after months but the glue never dissolved :/
@@emilybradford4181 Same here, the glue just doesn't dissolve.
The water needs to be hot
@@The_Yosh I hope you don't think that pouring hot water on plants is a good idea.
Garden Larder not boiling hot though
My cousin bought my mom a glued down plant. I've never seen my mom so disappointed
Poor baby! Thank you for showing us that there is still hope.
I literally took the biggest breath of fresh air AFTER seeing ur plant was rescued and repotted!! Phew!
i breathed way more...
How is any supposed to care for a plant that won't grow. Like roots are covered in glue.
Kwanna cut off as far down as possible and graft or use some rooting powder and special soil to promote new plant from a “cutting”.
I just saw a plant exactly like this. I couldn't believe! Who would do this to a plant!!! So happy you rescue it !🌵🤗
I’m so happy you gave this cute little guy a better home
I have come across stuff like this, but never actually purchased one. I can not believe that companies actually do this to living plants. Thank goodness you set her free! 💚
I'm glad you did this video Harli.....I've seen plants like this but never bought any....now I know what to do thanks to you.
You're welcome! Thank you for watching!
imagine a world where humans are plants
and plants glue humans into pots as decoration
Tangela Tube and then hot glue a fake flowers onto their heads!
Plant arent going anywhere any way. And i wouldn't mind being all prettyatized
Thicc Nicc It’s unfair, ugly and unhealthy. How would you like it if you had a paper flower hot glued onto your head?? It’s cruel. You wouldn’t do it to a human or an animal.
@@klaudia6057 plants cant feel any thing cause they dont have nervs. I know about how they bring in and let go of air, but its not an animal just because of that. And because they are not animals, plants dont care if they have been glued or not.
Thicc Nicc Fair enough but it’s still a little mean :/ honestly I’m just glad you aren’t trying to justify glueing them
I saved one of these from Lowe’s and smashed the hell out of the rocks when I got home. I have been putting off repotting but this gave me the inspiration to do it tomorrow. Thanks! 🤘🏼
I saw that plant at Home Depot just yesterday and was afraid to buy it. Thanks to you, not afraid anymore!!!
America explain?!
I have never seen something like this in my country
I'm American, but I just saw something like this for the first time at a flower shop in Korea. I was so confused that I thought maybe the plants were fake.
Krista D It’s really weird
@@martaf1285 it's super annoying when you find a great plant in a great pot for a great price and then come to find that it has been glued!! So depressing
Jaclynn Hall it is actually really depressing let the plant live it’s life! Why do consumers do that I have no idea
I’m American and almost 50 and I’ve never seen this before.
Just chiming in on the knife ☺ I was taught that's a knife for spreading butter or soft cheeses. Of course I like butter and cheese way more than fish so I'll keep using it for dairy products. 😆
That makes sense! I don't eat fish or dairy so I guess it's a good thing it's now a plant tool for me :P Put it to actual use! However it works best for everyone is the right answer I guess hahaha
I'm sure this little euphorbia cristata will thrive in its new pot and soil! I hate when they do this to plants, like who in their right mind would glue plants 🙈🌱🌿 Love your videos and greetings from germany!
Thank you so much! I hope the plant is much, much happier now (:
I have that exact plant, glue and all! It's been almost two years now and it's grown very big, but I've always been worried about the fact that it was glued but had no idea how to get it out and how to properly repot it. Thanks for this video!!
My bum knee has kept me from gardening the last few days. I now live vicariously through this channel!
Aw I hope you knee gets feeling better!
I just purchased a this plant from home depot. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why it was glued down. Came right home and got on RUclips and found your video . I loved the humor, thank you now I will go rescue my plant.
I have one of these. Going to bang out the rocks and glue now. Thanks,
@Ayron Steel I have the same exact one too except the top is a white color and the pot is blue, its been doing excellent since I got it about 3 months ago but I had no clue the pebbles were glued down and I feel like a bad plant owner 😭
@Ayron Steel You should!!! they're so pretty, they have them at wal-mart too for really cheap
The glue is water soluble. It’s meant to keep the soil intact during shipping.
Holden Strickland. So can I soak it off?
@@James-rg1pp thanks for this - I just made the same comment wondering if the 'glue' is only meant for shipping and breaks down once you water the plant!
I have never seen this before and so weird! Thank you for this and saving that poor plant!
This is late, but if you made more of these like repotting glued in plants would be super satisfying lol.
No I’m so glad you posted this!! My friend just bought me that exact same plant 😂😂 and oddly enough this video had popped up on my feed right before she gave it to me!
I love this. I just received this same plant for my birthday and was blown away by the glued rocks. I’m glad I am not alone!!!
“And it is because everything is cemented into place” 😂😂😂😂💜 So fun to watch!
My mom keeps getting glued plants thinking they're fake and keeps killing them 🤦.
Monica Dennis just touch it, fake plants feel like plastic
@@theunusuallifeofmonica if they're found in the live plant/garden section and has a care tag, then they're live plants. Also look at the stems/roots. Fake plants are a dead giveaway.
@@theunusuallifeofmonica You could inspect the plant for any signs of life. Like, old leaves starting to shrivel to fall off, brown spots from the leaf being damaged, etc etc. Typically, if the plant's glued down, chances are there's some part of it that isn't exactly the healthiest, and fake plants never replicate the unhealthy bits of the plant, so that'd be a dead giveaway. Depending on the type of plant and/or if the plant got watered recently, the smell could give it away too (if you smell dirt on it it's real), but this is in no way foolproof as succulents don't really have a smell, so I feel the same goes with a lot of non-flowering plants. And as my last-resort method, find a leaf that's lower down on the plant (aka would fall off in time anyway) and try to poke your fingernail into the tip of it. If it goes in and the leaf feels wet, it's real. If it feels like foam, it's fake. It'd still hurt the leaf, but it's better than the whole plant dying because you can't tell if it's real or not.
HOW do you keep buying and killing things and STILL thinking it’s fake THEN DOING IT AGAIN? just.. 😂😂
Mrs mom, um fake plants don’t die:)
Cactus with glued on flowers😤
Honestly when I saw this it made me immediately go and buy one of these plants to rescue it. Thanks to this video I easily removed it. It was a coral cactus just like that one and it’s doing really great. I was so happy when I got to see the soil of the plant and know that the plant was healthy. Thank you so much for this video!
Thank you for this video! I’m rescuing a glued plant and I couldn’t have done it without you!
The fancy knife thing is just a butter knife 😂 a knife made specifically and exclusively for spreading butter 😂
CAN WE PLEASE NAME THE PLANT AND GET UPDATES ON HOW HES DOING?! I feel like he deserves it, poor thing 🙈😘❤️
I want to see how it grows out, very interesting shape
I think he's an Eduardo! :-)
It's a euphorbia, not sure which variety exactly. To my knowledge, even though it resembles a cactus, this plant is actually a succulent
@@jackiedoesntcare no, he needs A name. I'm calling him Eduardo! :-)
It's a grafted euphorbia
Called a coral cactus
(Some are colorful...... ie probably painted as well)
She's talking about non plant people like they are a different species.
they are
Demi Dubach lmao I didn’t even know plant people were a thing until this video
samu hiltunen when she clearly isn’t a plant person cause she didn’t plant the grafted euphorbia in a pot with DRAINAGE????!!!!
@@bread-guy001 Drainage holes aren't required. You can tip the excess water out if it's a small enough pot, which the one she used is. I'd say her having over 300 plants makes her a plant person, regardless of the presence of holes at the bottom of a container.
noelle hmmmm.... you try putting a cactus or succulent, let alone a grafted one in a pot without drainage and not great- ok draining soil. You will have rot in weeks. She could’ve drilled a hole easily or just put it in a different pot. But if you classify a “plant person” as someone who has 300 plants, then I guess she is a “plant person”.
Love how I look down at the comments and you reply and like every single one!!
Just received the exact same plant from Lowe’s as a gift from my dad!! I’m so glad you have this very informative video! Now it’s time to save my new baby
😂 HAHA! Ryan, the butter knife (it’s a butter knife), The Plant, the glue. This is all hilarious.
omg .. glad you save that plant !!
what?! WHAT?! Its full of glueXD I never seen something like that in my country- but we have whole painted succulents also with sparkle colorsXD its craaazy
After watching one of your vids with your husband slightly despising your plants, it's truly precious and so heartwarming to see that he also supports you and gets you houseplant gifts ❤
Warmly and Sincerely,
A 30 year old looking for the kind of love you've been able to maintain and flourish in.
Keep up the videos, they make my day!!
I have this same pot, plant, and glue issue….very helpful and you are so much fun to watch! I was happy to see the glue didn’t go to the very bottom of the pot like yours. That said, my little plant needed the change as there were about 2 inches of glue rock from top. Thanks!
Your new favorite tool is a butter spreader. 😄 💖🍃🌸
That knife is a cheese knife to serve cheese. Also big thank you for saving the plants in need ❤
I actually loved this video - thanks for saving that plant!!!
Never felt like crying so much for a poor plant. I was feeling claustrophobic 😢. Your husband is 🤣 so innocent and cute with his perfectly glued on caged plant.
I don't know why but that was super satisfying to watch
The "tool" you were using is a proper butter knife😂
its a fish knife... look it up
It is also a butter knife...look it up
This is so helpful!!! I've always wanted to get a Bonsai tree, but never have because rocks and stuff are always glued down on the top and I didn't even want to try and remove them, knowing I would kill it or break it... JABBING THEM OFF! I've LITERALLY never thought of this -.- I'm dumb lol, now I can start up a very expensive bonsai collection lol. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR UPLOADING THIS!!!
😣 I cry when I see those or painted succulents, and also fake flowers glued on cacti or bamboo. 😭
Not weird I don’t buy glued plants but always feel compelled to rescue them! Thank you for showing it can be done!
Definitely gonna go rescue a few of these from Lowe's! They currently have a bunch and I was on the fence about getting them and now I'm for sure gonna snag them up. Ive watched several of your videos and they're super helpful! Thanks a million Harli!
You saved its life🙏🏼🙌🏼
Perfect timing! I bought a plant but didn't even notice it had rocks glued to it(smh). I'll definitely be trying this out with it!
Should work like a charm! (: Let me know how it goes!
“No offence I’m just gonna sit you in here for second”😂
I am binge watching through all of your videos from oldest to newest. I think you are great! I don't typically comment, but you made me laugh out loud in this one, and since I am not usually caught off guard like that, I appreciated it! Thanks for what you do.

The glue is used to keep the rocks in place during shipping. The glue is loosened with hot tap water, then you break up the chunks. I had to do this to my plants when I moved.
Yes. It will loosen with watering. by
But...hot tap water would be super detrimental to roots, right? 🤔
All of us can relate to the glued on rocks omg 😂😂💗 every time I see them I wanna fight someone 😂
FINALLY!!!!!! This is kind of video that can save so many lives!!!👏🏼🌱
I sure hope so!
Thank you for making this video! I was gifted the same plant for mothers day and I was completely blown away that the rocks where glued! I'm a new plant owner but I knew it wasn't quite right. Going to save my plant later :)
I buy all my succulents and plants from my local florist, i know we’re the grown you can go in the green houses and see them being grown, it’s awesome! also your supporting a small business!
This was the most wholesome plant video I have ever seen on RUclips.
It's a cool coincidence that RUclips recommended me this video because I nust recently recently saved a cactus I bought that was stuck in some glued rocks
The irony 😭😭 that was a butter knife 💀💀 Fancy butter knife for butter plate. I love this channel
Ah thank you! I see stuck down plants sometimes and i feel so bad oml. Good to see a fellow plant mum 10/10
That's exactly what I had planned to do but I didn't know what to expect beneath the pebbles. So glad I found your video, gave me a little reassurance that I won't hurt my plant...which is also a coral cactus just like yours. And can I just say...
A PLANT IS A LIVING THING, WHY WOULD ANYONE ENCASE IT IN GLUE!
Thank you, I feel better now. smiley face
:O i've never seen this. the nerve, the MOCKERY
RIGHT
I love you, Harli. You make me smile! Happy belated birthday! 💟 Funny enough, your "new" little tool is called a butter knife 😅
Its a marketing gimmick. They do it in the hopes that consumers will buy it because it's "pretty". But then when the plant inevitably dies in the inexperienced person's care, the marketing hopes the consumer will come and buy another.
Isopropyl alcohol can be used to dissolve the glue, but it takes a while. Good also if you want to take those lame paper flowers off the cacti. If it were me I would not use those rocks in the fresh soil nor use the pot it came in, because there may still be bits of the glue that might leech chemicals into the soil from water, and it doesn't have any drainage. For aeration, I would amend cactus soil with horticultural grit, charcoal and perlite.
You handled your Hubby buying you a glued plant, you showed those glued rocks with the spreader, you were able to completely clear the pot out in one day! YAH!!! High 5!!! :) WTG!
that was sweet of your husbandbecause that plant is gorgeous. That process was hilarious.
Not surprised it worked because youre phenominal but also VERY SURPRISED THIS WORKED?!
HAHAAHA I wasn't sure how the video would turn out so I'm glad it worked :P
Hi Harli,
I can sooooo relate to this video. Thank you so much for sharing your adventure with us. Now here's mine:
Last year, when I was one of those non-plant people (lol😂), I bought a Jade plant that was glued down like that from Home Depot. I was so annoyed when I got home and had to repot it too. I also, "pounded the heck out of those glued rocks" 😂😂😂. Mine has a stow away inside... a spider. It survived and flourished for a few months then died. Don't know why. I will never buy a glued plant like that again. Lesson learned. Gotta get another Jade plant though. I am a proud plant person now one year + later.😊
Okay that is actually really scary!
Non-cooking people might not know what that ‘tool’ is but cooking people would call that a butter knife
i didn’t think i would find a video of glued down rocks! i just bought a bamboo from lowe’s and was trying so hard to pull it out until i noticed it was glued on and i was so confused and i checked on the water level today and it didn’t have any so i’m definitely going to try this tomorrow! thank you so much!!
Your fancy knife "thing" is a butter knife. You are so cute and I feel the same way about glued plants. Bless you for showing us how to rescue them from their trap.
My boyfriend and I always see plants glued down in stores. We found one that had PAPER FLOWERS GLUED onto it!!
Omg.....I needed that laugh. Thank you,Harli. 😄
I saw these at Lowe’s and I was like 🤦🏼♀️ like why??? I hope non plant people watch your video. ♥️♥️♥️
It's called a Coral cactus and it's another plant manipulated by a company to attract our eye, hearts, and pockets. This plant is a Euphorbia Lactea grafted on top of a Euphorbia Neriifolia. Cacti are so beautiful in nature all by themselves, but a handful of people just want to make money no matter what. True plant lovers rescue plants like this every day. Thank you Harli!
RUclips recommendations never fail me this has been in it for a week
