Never owned a house plant until my mother passed and one was left unwanted at her viewing. She always had many plants in the house so I figured I’d give it a home. It’s been almost two years and I’m happy to say that the plant is still thriving. It’s grown to about 8 feet long vines now. I wanted to trim it but being plant illiterate I had no idea how so I turned to RUclips. I watched a couple videos and I just want to say that your video was the most in depth one I came across. I followed your directions and now have a bunch of pothos plants throughout my home lol. Thank you for the great informative video

Some tips I do that add to success. Add a teaspoon of Colloidal Silver to your water, Use a straw to blow air into the water once a day. This allows you to leave the plants alone without having to change the water until you are ready to transplant. When you transplant keep the potting mix quite wet for the first week then gradually allow to become dryer over time. This way the water roots will become acclimated to the soil and failure is just about 0.
Loved the video, dude. I have one simple tip, though: the more variegated a plant is, the less chlorophyll it has (which is what causes them to look light green or have white patches), so they will develop roots and put out new growth at a much slower rate. That's why your marble queen pothos weren't as "successful" at rooting in the same amount of time. They simply needed more time in water to develop the roots and leaves.
its not true ,white patches indicate vibrancy and vigor ,if you want a pothos without white patches than put it in a low light situation ,i have a pothos outside with tons on bright indirect light and it has nice white spots than i have the same variety indoors with filtered light through window blinds and has almost no spots ,while both are healthy looking the one outside is growing more than 10 times faster, white spots and all, while the completely green grows very slowly
@@humility-righteous-giving it is true. The green on leaves is the chlorophyll. The more white a leaf has the less chlorophyll it has. There's a reason why leaves on plants that have variegation and its just plain white, don't do so well or just die. Hence the variegated plants taking longer to root. I have a marble queen trying to root and nearly a week later, it's growing the vines but the roots are taking a while. The golden pothos started rooting within a week.
@@empressdoinalot variegation ,a new word for me, i know a bit about plants, but i there is allot more i don't know, but my conclusion from what i saw with the same exact genetics of pothos is that it produces the white spots when it has abundant amounts of light and can afford to express the white spots witch makes it look allot more nicer
Pothos is actually a really popular plant in the aquarium community. It is placed right in the aquarium, or in the hang-on-back filter as a means of reducing the nitrates from the fish waste. My wife and I have a whole bunch of it growing in our aquariums. the pothos in her desk aquarium is twining all up and down her desk lamp lol.

I root my cuttings in water exactly as you described then transfer them into pots with soil, I place a glass dome on top of the plant pot which creates a humid environment around the cuttings and they appear to respond very well since golden pothos thrives in humidity. I get an abundance of new shoots & leaves which thickens the overall look and creates a beautiful dense, lush appearance. All my cuttings rooted in water propagate with 100% success and no casualties, the dome also saves me from watering the pot, I just check that the soil is damp to the touch. Then when I have enough foliage covering all the soil surface I remove the dome and maintain the pot with usual watering for pothos and misting with water. Oh my gosh, this must be the best tutorial I’ve ever seen in my life - and I’ve watched many videos on various subjects. My mom passed away a few years ago and we have one plant that she had for years. We’re trying to propagate and eventually have enough to give one to everyone in the family. Thank you for all the time and energy that you put into this video. I really enjoyed your presentation as well as learned a lot. I’m going to make a decision on if the roots are at the right stage right now.
This was my first time propagating a plant and I followed this tutorial (with minor adjustments) with 100% success. I'm not sure if these little changes actually affected anything, but with my set up I had all my cuttings in one large vase (I thought it'd help to give the roots room to grow?), placed this in a window that got about 5-4 hours of direct sunlight, changed the water every 2 days, and added plant food to the water (de-chlorinated water). My cuttings had about 3-inch roots and budding leaves in about a week and a half, so now they're happily chilling in their new pot c: I really don't know why I haven't tried this sooner. I guess I thought I was gonna screw it up, but your video made it look so easy! I've had my 2 pothos for about 2 years now, and they're getting pretty big and lowkey out of control, considering that I've yet to like.... actually groom them lol
Ive been propagating for years with good success. I tried your way with the shorter stem pces and ended with a lot of 'underwater leaf babies'. I potted them anyway, and wow! Their colours are amazing- like jewel tones! 💚
Thank you so much. I tried this with a 12’ Long vine that lost about 1/3 of its leaves. Almost every cutting rooted and I planted them in one pot (about 2 dozen or more). I lost about 4 cuttings in the soil but the cuttings have sprouted so many babies. Literally another dozen babies which I didn’t expect. Sooo happy! Thank you 😊. Oh one more thing I just used shot glasses and wine glasses.

I find that the more exotic the variety, the slower pothos is to root. Some of the oldest varieties will put out roots in a week or so, but things like neon can take months. I do find that putting new cuttings in with cuttings that are already rooting seems to encourage the new ones to root faster because the ones that have roots release hormones. Clear or translucent containers work best since light seems to stimulate rooting.
I’ve read that if you cut a few inches of young growth off a Willow tree (in Spring or Summer) it encourages faster rooting. I haven’t done that BUT did root some young willow branches in water a few years ago and ended up with a 12’ (and counting!) tall tree which I planted in my backyard.

Great video, clearly explained and well shot. Thanks for the tip about where to trim your cuttings, I haven’t tried it yet, but I hope I have success. I love the beautiful propagation station you have, I took a screenshot to add to my Pinterest board. You know, I almost bought a “mad scientist” multi test tube vase at the craft store thinking it would be good for something like this, but talked myself out. Now I see how well you have it set up, I’m reinspired. Thanks for a really helpful video! 🌱 ✌️
I was inspired by you. I started my golden and satin pothos...but since I lack counterspace/ good windows..or appropriate containers lol...i used plastic bags and wrapped the nodes in wet paper towel (bag left open) And one small jar with two golden in water. It works! And faster with the plastic bag than on the counter. Must be the higher humidity in the bag. Yay!!!
I follow you on TT and love your videos, super educational. I love my Pothos and have had it for years. It started from a clipping from a friend and from there I have started many plants from it. After seeing this video, I now know the "proper" way to trim my cuttings, I was keeping too much of the stem. Thank you for showing this.
I have a green queen that was my Mom's. She passed away in 1991 and she had it for decades and I've had it ever since. Super resistant. I believe it's at least 40 yrs. old. Most likely even older than that. Awesome. Like your method of a single leaf.🙂
loved this. you filmed and took us through the process in great quality, thank you! just bought a new pothos and I can't wait to create my own propagation station, update us soon xx
I found your video after wasting an hour watching inferior presentations. Your video is definitely the best on here. My pothos will appreciate all I'ver leasrned from you. Thank you for helping...
My mother gave me a cutting and I've had it in a glass of water for like five days and nothing happened. I, having no idea of anything, tried to put it into one of my aquariums between a piece of driftwood and the glass. Two days later, it started developing roots and since then, I've let it stay in there, tons of roots and approximately one new leaf per week. It grows vertically along the rim of the aquarium glass. So cool.
I've always thought about doing a neon and a golden together. Not sure what has stopped me. This video will probably make me take that step. Thank you, sir. 🌱
I just potted some rooted golden, marble queen, and neon pothos together. It's gorgeous, can't wait for it to fill out a bit more. 😍 Very cool to find another example... I agree it's hard to believe it's not more common! I have always used multi-leaf vine segments (6-12" long) for propogation and they've always done very well. I usually wait until there's a pretty good root mass in water before moving to soil, and they always adjust well with no awkward stage. So interesting to hear other methods also. Great video!
@planterina tip: use Bobby Pins to pin the cuttings into place! Many aquarists (including myself!) grow pothos hydroponically (great for aquariums). I used to have about 10 cuttings growing in a 2 foot tall cylindrical vase (and baby guppies living inside). The cuttings grew to about 15 feet! (I cut em down and kept going!) One more thing: I think having the different species growing together could result in crazy root growth, each one trying to outcompete the other. Thanks! Nice Propagation Station! 😊
An umbrella tree propagation!!!! Mine died and I’m still not over it so took a cutting from my nana and nothing’s happening 😭 too soon for another loss
I unknowingly made my own propagation station with the used bulbs from my bathroom light fixture. I couldn't figure out what to do with them until I found this. Muchos, muchos gracias, amigo. ❤✌
This video just changed my life! I'm going out tomorrow to buy new plants to propagate 🤗 thanks for the post I had NO idea this was possible until now.
Has there been any updates on these? Would be super interested to see how both the water props are doing and the ones you potted in soil!! I did a similar thing with multiple varieties and wanna know how yours is doing
Thanks so much for an amazing video. I appreciate the time and thorough work that you put into your videos! My mom passed away 3 years ago and my brother and I took a clipping from one of her favourite plants. I almost killed my mom’s plant with kindness by overwatering it. I am watching your video now in an attempt to save my mom ‘s plant. Thanks again for a very informativer and fantastic. Video!
I propagated one of my golden pothos plants a few months ago. All the cuttings rooted, and I transplanted them into the soil when the roots were about an inch long each. But they haven't grown at all in the past month or so. They're not dying, the stems aren't rotting, and the leaves are bright and vibrant. I'm not sure if I did something wrong in the propagation or the planting. I've been giving them indirect light and water about once a week when the top inch of soil is dry, and they've been in a warm environment. Do you have any idea why they're not growing? Anything I can do to encourage them?
I just recently started putting pothos cuttings in my fish tank and it looks awesome! Can't wait to watch the roots grow and let my fish enjoy the shade! 😃
Tysm for this it I tried to propogate my pothos but it failed and started wilting. As soon as I tried your method it got so much better overnight and it looks so strong now! :3
I divided several different variety’s of Pothos plants that I had after watching this video. I repotted neon pothos with jade pothos and I am very pleased w this new look! Thx
You have a nice way of giving instructions, not a lot of unnecessary chatter but plenty of information on the subject at hand and at an easy pace - not too fast; not too slow. I’ve had many house plants in my time and love the rooting process which is my favorite part ... lol! I don’t have room to keep all the plants, however, so they are passed on to friends. I kept an Arrowhead plant in a jug of water for many years. I changed the water about every two or three days and when the roots got too long, I simply cut 3”or 4” off the roots so the plant could remain in its jug. I do have a question ... do you grow orchids? Thanks again for your video.
I just wanted to add that the golden potho that I am trying to propogate is from an original plant that my mom had when I was a little girl, I am now 54 and trying so hard to keep this plant going, I feel from your teaching that I can revive this one vine into a beautiful plant, I will update.

My boyfriend made me watch this video and I am happy he did because is very helpful, I didn't know they will root if the cuttings are so short and 1 leaf only, great tip, thank you!
Interesting to see the propagation results - always had this suspicion that the length of the stem on cuttings made a difference in root development. Please do some more side-by-sides on your own but your examples were almost all consistent. The cuttings with a longer stem (relative to the leaf size) all had amazing roots!!! Also thank you for the video/audio/editing quality of your videos. Always a treat!!
Epic Gardening After viewing your video I thought the same thing so I went and had a look; but there isn’t a whole lot of vining going on so nothing to cut from.
Linda Johnson, I grow a few different kinds of plants in water. I change the water once per week. The night before I change my water I have been fertilizing (very diluted, with more nitrates -less ammoniacal) I just add a small amount and they grow really well. Try that and see. Water roots are so beautiful to me, I just love to grow some plants this way. I would love to hear if that works for you.
I use MaxiGro Fertilizer 10% total Nitrogen, 8.5% Nitrate, 1.5% Ammoniacal. Schultz and Miracle Grow do not list their Nitrogen content, so I assume it is mostly Ammoniacal. As I understand it, plants grown hydroponically are unable to convert to Nitrates given there is no soil/bacteria. I don't know about worm tea or Beta. If you do use this fertilizer a little goes a long way, believe me. I only use 1/4tsp per gallon of water. MaxiGro recommends 1-2, but I have found that way too much! Good Luck.
Pothos seems like a really nice house plant, the little glass cutting system would probably save my kicthen cupboard lol. Its a huge help that you have multiple pothos videos on the topic, I finally am starting to feel prepared to give a pathos a go.

Got this same setup a bit ago. Was worried seeing my plants droop at the start of winter so wanted some backups. Some crazy root growth on my pothos cuttings.. will be tricky as they’ve grown around the bar haha. Handy tools for backups or making plant starters for friends and family
hey buddy great video, i've previously taken cuttings from philodendren, boston ivy, and anthuriums using the same method for propogation as you do but, with a slight dfferece to speed up the germination . when the mother plant was growing she was being fed with a full strength fertiliser but a cutting only needs a diluted solution to grow . Also when the temperature starts to get hottter misting the leaves increases the humidity. By using this method i fund that plants were rootig in about 4 to 6 weeks.

Dude! You do houseplants too?! Haha . You’re everywhere. I usy watch you for my patio gardening stuff, but now I have a split lead philo I need to save. ☝🏻🤓 thank you for the knowledge.
thanks for showing us the full process after a couple weeks for the roots to grow in, then putting it in soil!! this was very helpful, thank u!!
Yay!!!
You take my winter blues away. Thank you for that. Nice video.
Thank you!
I haven’t heard the word “janky” in a long time. What a good laugh! Thanks!!!
Throwing it back!
I have a green queen that was my Mom's. She passed away in 1991 and she had it for decades and I've had it ever since. Super resistant. I believe it's at least 40 yrs. old. Most likely even older than that. Awesome. Like your method of a single leaf.🙂
Wow, that's amazing. What a great memory of your mother
Yes, I think of my Mom Everytime I see it.☺️
one of the best propagation videos I've watched, looking forward to the updates. thank you!!
Wow thank you! Updates will probably be on IG 😎
Thanks for info about planting in soil before roots are too established. Going to mix my two types in one pot. Yay, love this stuff.
loved this. you filmed and took us through the process in great quality, thank you! just bought a new pothos and I can't wait to create my own propagation station, update us soon xx
Thanks Nicole! Good luck with yours and stay tuned for more prop videos :)
I found your video after wasting an hour watching inferior presentations. Your video is definitely the best on here. My pothos will appreciate all I'ver leasrned from you. Thank you for helping...
Please, please, pleaaaase do hydroponic houseplants! I've kept pothos in water, in vases for 25 years!
Will do!
So cool.
That’s what I was thinking of doing!
Followed your instructions and I now have a new pothos in the family. Thank you!
Anything that looks like growth, I keep!!!
I am a total newbie with this, I am so glad to have found your chanel! You are so helpful and knowledgeable and I am learning so much, thank you!
I have the same planter from aliexpress I got it for so much cheaper than amazon! I love it!!
I've always thought about doing a neon and a golden together. Not sure what has stopped me. This video will probably make me take that step. Thank you, sir. 🌱
Propagating is so addictive watch out
Your plants looks very healthy and I like propagating jars, Amazon has every thing, smile
Loved your video, learned quite a bit about my Pathos. Would love to see an update whether the results were good or bad!
Soon!
Where can fine a pray plants.
Glad to hear the multi-leaf works well!
Pothos combo pot😍😍😍😍 Thanks for providing this wonderful tutorial!!!
Dude, you're like a cool older bro who teaches me about plants and gardening 🌱💚
He's hot AND loves plants. Subscribed 🕵️
😂 welcome to the community my friend
Right!? I had no idea men like this existed. I subbed less than 1 minute in

Planterina is great! Glad to hear it worked so well for you!
An umbrella tree propagation!!!! Mine died and I’m still not over it so took a cutting from my nana and nothing’s happening 😭 too soon for another loss
Will see what I can do!
If u add a pothos cutting to the jar, you'll have success! They help a lot .
I unknowingly made my own propagation station with the used bulbs from my bathroom light fixture. I couldn't figure out what to do with them until I found this. Muchos, muchos gracias, amigo. ❤✌
Also, with my pothos, if I want him to look bushy I put any new vines across the top since they're such studs at climbing across dirt ❤
Very informative AND a nicely produced video :)!
Thanks!
This video just changed my life! I'm going out tomorrow to buy new plants to propagate 🤗 thanks for the post I had NO idea this was possible until now.
Make it happen :)
@@epicgardening Thank you for the reply. My propagation station is arriving today ! I'm going to my local nursery to get different Pothos too. 😀
Has there been any updates on these? Would be super interested to see how both the water props are doing and the ones you potted in soil!! I did a similar thing with multiple varieties and wanna know how yours is doing
heyyy, so he did an update on instagram stating that they died due but has tried this again and has worked!
Fertilize with diluted fish emulsion! Planterina says most houseplants including Pothos like this once a month. And let them dry out between watering
I just recently started putting pothos cuttings in my fish tank and it looks awesome! Can't wait to watch the roots grow and let my fish enjoy the shade! 😃
Thank you for the information.....for years I have been doing my cutting wrong.......
Always room to improve!
Tysm for this it I tried to propogate my pothos but it failed and started wilting. As soon as I tried your method it got so much better overnight and it looks so strong now! :3
You’re so passionate about plants
I love it
Sub
Appreciate you!
looks like those plants LOVE the propagation bulbs... i have added two sets to my cart on Amazon!! thank you !
Any updates on this one???
All died, no update
We must know! I love the idea of multiple varieties in a single pot.
Anyone have the link? Or maybe just tell me why they died?
He left it in a sunny window and killed it
I divided several different variety’s of Pothos plants that I had after watching this video. I repotted neon pothos with jade pothos and I am very pleased w this new look! Thx
Wow glad to help!
Have to tell u
U explain simple and easy
That I
Appreciate ALOT

Thank you!
Thanks again for your video.
enjoyed your video, just one thing I noticed you look like the bartender from netflix's Atypical
Thanks! And if that's a good thing, I'll take it and if not...😂
I just wanted to add that the golden potho that I am trying to propogate is from an original plant that my mom had when I was a little girl, I am now 54 and trying so hard to keep this plant going, I feel from your teaching that I can revive this one vine into a beautiful plant, I will update.
Hello! I've just watched the video, can you make another so que we can see if the propagation was succesful?
Will do!
@@epicgardening That's why I'm here too!
Yeah update please!!! 🌿💚

My boyfriend made me watch this video and I am happy he did because is very helpful, I didn't know they will root if the cuttings are so short and 1 leaf only, great tip, thank you!
You're welcome!
Please update us on how this did!
All died unfortunately
Interesting to see the propagation results - always had this suspicion that the length of the stem on cuttings made a difference in root development. Please do some more side-by-sides on your own but your examples were almost all consistent. The cuttings with a longer stem (relative to the leaf size) all had amazing roots!!!
Also thank you for the video/audio/editing quality of your videos. Always a treat!!
Unfortunately we don't always have that luxury with the some cultivars like the snow queen or njoy's
Oh, that's a really interesting thing you picked up. I'm going to try and do a side-by-side experiment, perhaps with pothos
My aunt has a pathos that is about 25 years old but it hasn’t grown any. It has lived its whole life in water.
That's wild! Would love to see pictures. Try taking some cuttings and rooting them, then planting in soil?
Epic Gardening
After viewing your video I thought the same thing so I went and had a look; but there isn’t a whole lot of vining going on so nothing to cut from.
Burstall Pass
Thanks. Nitrates as fertilizer? Do you have a name of a product for me to google for purchase? What about worm tea? Or, a Beta?
Glad to hear this!
If i cut the vine will my plant be okay
Yes it will
Wow, I love your information!! I have been propagating pothos the wrong way for years. Thank you soon much 😘.

This channel is my one stop shop for plant knowledge and I thank you so much for this content! Easy to digest and very enjoyable to watch! Perfect for any plant lover or enthusiast!!!
I am brand new to gardening. I have been doing Kratky hydroponics since Aug and am now just beginning to learn some things about growing in soil. I am really wanting to plant sweet potatoes and know you have to create slips. I have not had any luck so far with them. (I am in the hot Florida weather so they rotted and got super mushy and stunk without growing any shoots). I would love to figure out what I may have done wrong. I am guessing it was the weather but not sure.
I'll be doing some sweet potato grow alongs this next year, so definitely follow along!
@@epicgardening I have been following your channel for a while now. You have been one of my main learning channels for gardening. I have really appreciated all your help. I have been inspired recently to start my own channel to share my celebrations and challenges as I change my entire lifestyle. I hope to become as knowledgeable about this stuff as you are some day. Again Thanks!!
I'll take a look at it. Grateful you take time out of your day to watch what I do my friend.
@@epicgardening it won't be on my personal account here. look up ATOC Lifestyle and you will find it. I am still learning about the ins and outs of the accounts. I need to start watching from that account.
I live in florida and grow a lot all year long. The crazy summers are brutal for all my plants so I know what you mean about rot. We get diseases, bugs, animals, excessive heat, rain and humidity everything bats against us but it can be done. For potatoes I believe they grow best in our winter months. I'm going to experiment soon too, I just never tried potatoes yet. I grow a lot of other vegetables, herbs, cacti abd succulents though, way too many plants to take care of lol. Always adding more. Lol
I propagating a pothos straight to the soil and its looks good now and great.. i will try this water propagating next time
hy-pothos-is 😂
I have never propagated leaves like this. I have done more "vines". I am excited to try this.
You’re so cute 😍
I live in Missouri and I’m just bringing out my plans for the first time for the summer and I have beautiful Pothos . But one of my plants throughout the winter have really took a beating and have become more vine looking and not as scrumptious as the other one so I was watching your video to recap on how to take clippings and add to your plant to make it look more fuller great video I can’t wait to Get some new roots going so this plant can be voluptuous again
Those propagation jars are so cute and the stand, epic! 👍🏼💕🌿
This was so interesting and helpful. the only way I knew how to propagate pothos was by cutting off the tip of a Vine and putting it in water. That has always worked for me. But I see that this way I can get a lot more plants. Thanks!
Good luck and you're welcome!
To increase a successful transplant rate, I use the mykos you've suggested...I've had extra long roots and they do just fine . I've had 100% success rate doing this.
This was the best video I found!! Thanks for being so detail oriented!!
I would love to see a hydroponic pothos video. Thanks for sharing great videos! Love that you follow several stages of the plant’s development within one video!
I trimmed my cuttings following your instructions- my cuttings now have roots in 5 days where they had none before! Thanks for making this video!
Nicely done! Get those in the soil now :)
I think I’ll try the same thing, because they’ve been there for almost two weeks now and there’s almost no change. The leaves still look healthy though
I love mixing different varieties of plants in the same pot ..
I have a Satin, a Golden and a Green Queen in one pot and I love the look. The Green Queen is a cutting from a cutting from a cutting that's from a cutting from a plant that dates back at least 40 years. Yes that's 4 different cuttings
Glad to hear I'm not alone!
Can you share a photo?
Probably the best video I’ve seen on Pothos propagation. Thank you! I also really like how you potted them all together. Very cool.
Thank you !
Thank you so much.. I never knew where to cut.. will do this tomorrow.. can't wait. Thanks 👍👌👍
Definitely interested in hydroponic houseplants! I have a super bushy pothos that I’m waiting to get a bit leggy so I can try propagating for the first time. 😬 nervous and excited. I’ve started a small jungle and learning so much from your videos. Thanks!
Great video. I’m new to all this and want to learn more about propagation. This video helped out a lot. Thanks for the weekly updates.
Wow I can't believe I found this video on exactly what i'm trying to do. thank you!
Got this same setup a bit ago. Was worried seeing my plants droop at the start of winter so wanted some backups. Some crazy root growth on my pothos cuttings.. will be tricky as they’ve grown around the bar haha. Handy tools for backups or making plant starters for friends and family
wow! its a good thing our local online shopping has the glass cylinders simular to your now im inspired
hey buddy great video, i've previously taken cuttings from philodendren, boston ivy, and anthuriums using the same method for propogation as you do but, with a slight dfferece to speed up the germination . when the mother plant was growing she was being fed with a full strength fertiliser but a cutting only needs a diluted solution to grow . Also when the temperature starts to get hottter misting the leaves increases the humidity. By using this method i fund that plants were rootig in about 4 to 6 weeks.
I have 2 huge plants I been growing many yrs now. I take 1/2cup coffee diluted to 1/2c water once a month. They love it
great for aquariums! They help keep the water clean too!
