This actually happens sometimes in this game. Cut scenes trigger for the first person to get close and that's not always who you want it to be. Even if you know the scene is coming it can still happen. As an example if you stop right before a scene and turn around your followers will go behind you like always but in this case behind you is where the trigger is for the scene so that companion will be forced to do the talking.

I had the thought the other day of doing a playthrough where you can ONLY press option 3 (Or whatever # you decided) and seeing how the story develops.
It seems that choosing a bard with charisma proficiency, "friends" spell, and 15 base charisma for my first playthrough was a good decision because I succeeded at almost every deception and persuasion check on the first try

I never actually used the vial of powder from this on the rubble, saving it for a boss later on. only about 3-4 hours later I'm in the Hag's lair, and decide it'd be funny to try on one of the masks. immediately lose control of my character and the first thing he does is misty-step and then toss the vial right in the middle of the party XD god it was genuinely terrifying reading the combat log to see what he threw only to see the equivalent of a localized nuke had been hand delivered to my half-dead party.
First time getting here I just went up and grabbed the supply pack without realizing this character was suicidal. Second time I used invisibility and stole the barrel as as rogue. Made for a bunch of laughs with the party
I talked nicely with her and let her go, and she gave me a nice vial. So obviously I instantly enter turn mode, throw all the buffs I can to Astarion, and steal the whole barrel as she runs away.
Swap out of conversation with another character. invisible potion. steal the barrel. Go back to the conversation and tell her to blow you up. Hilarity ensues...
It s funny that as it is described runepowder can destroy a city, but actual item is only deals 50-120 damage in an 18-meter radius. So clearly not enough to level a city or even kill most of the bosses
I hope to God this will be improved. Pathfinder WOTR for example automatically allows the character with the highest ability score to handle dialogue checks. This is one of the few gripes I have about the game.
yes the dialogue system is not great. 1 person is talking and the others are all staring soullessly. If others are in earshot you should be able to have them step in the conversation.
@@roberttarmann2942 well I'm not saying having dynamic conversations where AI interjects at will (that happens yes but it's very rare and it's usually just a short-sentence quip). But just being able to manually select a character to continue the conversation from the point you're on would already be an improvement. Like the guy said they should have copied the dialogue system in Pathfinder, it feels way more natural
yes this is why the 3 most popular dnd classes are warlock paladin and sorcerer, because unfortunately, charisma casters are way way overpowered given that DMs are often way too leanient with letting you roll persuasion on pretty much anything.

You end up having to find Philomeen but what they fail to tell you is that she belongs to an organization with some radical tenets about gnomish freedom :)

Haha, my Warlock is basically an easy mode. Never had problems with speech checks.

Playing as a Rogue right now and I've been able to breeze through most dialogues as well lol.

You can just play a barvarian , they can use their STR for intimidation checks , works even better with thamaturgy
Meanwhile my Paladin Bard with a minimim +10 to any charisma check 😂
honestly the game is more fun when you lose most of your checks, some story bits go totally off the rails
