I did this song on Rock band.. and right where he says, and doesnt it make you feel better.. I tossed my mic just like trent... it broke on the floor and I failed the song.... :( Guess we all cant be Trent
The year is 1994. I'm 13 years old. It's after midnight and I'm watching Headbangers Ball on MTV. This video came on and I missed the name of the band. When the synth came in I was immediately hooked. It was the coolest thing I've ever heard. Halfway through this video I heard the garage door open--my parents were coming home. I immediately turned off the TV and ran to bed. Several months later it was my birthday and my sister bought me a tape. It was NIN. I had no idea who they were. I started listening on my walkman and loved everything I heard. Then March of the Pigs came on! I immediately recognized it several months later. I will never, ever forget that feeling. It was the song that hooked me on NIN and MotP still remains my favorite NIN song. \m/
RIP James Woolley, who lived right across from my Mom and I for years until his death. He's on keys here, toured with them around this time... dude was so nice and encouraging towards me and my little high school band and never name-dropped NIN or anything. He was offering to get me and my buddies in his studio and jam/record with us and then he just unexpectedly died. Such a cool dude. This is such a great video using the live audio here rather than the album version!
My favorite NIN story is how footage from his video "Down In It" got lost and was found in a field by someone, turned over to the cops, starting a homicide investigation. When Trent was notified that he was dead, he was in a performance. Of course he was completely indifferent to it.
I remember being 17 and watching this video on MTV and being completely blown away by the raw energy of the sound and visuals so much so I couldn't sleep that night and wanted to start a band with nothing but this sound!!
He wasn't half as bad during the spiral era than he got during the fragile era. The Fragile era was the lowest point of his life where he hit absolute rock bottom after the death of his grandmother and all those drugs he had indulged himself in. Took him 5 years to get himself back together and release with teeth! I'm happy for Trent now though. He's sober and he's a happy man!!
Fun Fact: NIN are known as 22.86 cm Nails outside of the U.S.
Snape's youth was far more exciting than the books led us to believe.

That guy who kept replacing Trent's mic deserves a beer for being on point.
NIN nailed the creepy, home video aesthetic before anyone else. As a teenager, their music felt so sinister.
Microphones=0 / Trent=4
whenever i feel sad i put this video on and do push ups
Ghostemane wishes he was Trent.
I think Trent really hates microphones
scared before scared now
Rage Against the Microphones is my favorite 90s band.
That outfit that Trent is wearing 💖

I love how he gets handed an entirely new microphone every time he throws one. He went through like 3 or 4 of them lmfao

I giggle when band members run into each other cause they're just jamming out. Love that energy.

Beavis: "Change it Butthead!"
Butthead: "Cut it out, Beavis, it's gonna start to rock in a second!"
Beavis: "Rock!!!"
Butthead: "Yes!!!"
