with the stow and go seats its a little easier if you jack up the passenger side as high as your jack stands will go. The unbolt the tank straps and lower the tank down still in the straps so it is level and replace the pump. the tank will be almost horizontal to the ground and if the fuel level is low in the tank there should be no fuel spillage

You didn’t remove any of the gas fittings from the line? Just dropped one side of the tank?
