That's my dad, co pilot and mechanic. RIP Pops, so damn proud of you! Thank you to whoever found this video. So greatful.
I know that Howard and the Sound Air Corp pilot that flew it to Wiarton Ontario...way back in 1981. I remember he flew it up from Pa state VFR with just basically an airspeed indicator and altimeter and a radio, by himself. He was a one of a kind, Paul Ragany.
We worked together at Sound Air flying two Howard 500's in cargo config. A very tender operation I might add. Up to 6000 lbs. of freight balanced very carefully around a 12" C of G at the maid wing spar. We had a WW2 pilot named Tommy Thompson who flew as well into his mid 60"s. He kept us in stitches with "don't be a coward, get on that Howard" and ..."well here comes another night of Howard roulette!" I still fly, 737NG now but will always look back fondly at those good old days cargo flying piston banging Howard 500's and DC3, and very fortunate to have survived as some of the freight haulers we knew didn't.
I recall when KFN went down in '81? @ YYZ due to a suspected load shift/cg issue. Les Sali was the captain. My father was scheduled to take that flight, but was late returning with a metro from the east coast.
My favorite civilian airplane. Thank you for sharing.
I used to play in this plane as a kid good times..
Interesting...I used to play in a Howard 500, too, as a kid as well as Dee Howard's hangar when my dad would drag me to work. He was Dee Howard's chief pilot & instructor pilot. There were few things in life more fun than playing in the 500 or going for a ride. The best was when mom & I got to go with dad on a business trip from San Antonio to Costa Rica in the Howard 500. Dad let me sit in the co-pilot's seat and handle the yoke for a few minutes approaching San Jose!

I used to sleep in a Pilatus Porter, dreaming I once pilote it, and I did!

Same story. We have wonderful memories forever Many thanks
I know this is a 1993 film but was it shot in Blurvision?
Are those DC-7 props ??
All that effort and now the plane Is being used as a parts donor
I'll bet you could fry eggs on that starter after such a long cranking time
The belly that close to the ground! A design error?
