Probably the highlight of my 40+ yrs of flying was a round trip to OSH as copilot with John Putman in Wiley Sanders’ Howard 250. One landing... a serious lesson in humility.

My father …. Here we go , well - he flew Lockheed aircraft in WW2 . In Victoria , Texas and then in
Alaska . I think he said tens and twelves . I do recall that they were twin engine radials .
Dad spoke highly of Lockheed ! He loved those planes and he got to stay out of the heavy - 4 engine .
Flew mostly cargo and people . He did a lot of hours and ended a Captain in the Army Air Corps .
I was always proud of him ! Thanks for sharing your aircraft with us !

I've seen both Howard 500's at Oshkosh... but didn't know that was the whole population of them. Fingers crossed that they can keep flying for many more years!

Back in the 60's my family's oil company owned the world's only Howard Super Harpoon, built by Dee Howard using a PV-2 Harpoon. N144X. I flew on it a lot. We traded out of it in 1966.

A beautiful plane, but seeing just how complex it is to work I totally see why most went for the Grumman Gulfstream 1. Same cruise speed, but a whole lot simpler for pilots and easier on maintenance. Truly a relic of a bygone era.

I love this plane but it always drives me crazy that no one ever spends even 20 or 30 seconds filming what it’s like to ride in the back. How loud is it? How comfortable is it? Before I started flying I used to, when I was a kid, just sit in planes and yes, it was fun to sit in the cockpit, but it was also super fun to sit in the back, and imagine flying along.

Gave a thumbs down--could have let us hear engine music on takeoff, but your music soundtrack actually got louder!

This guy is just spouting BS. " which unlike most engines, it doesn't prime in the cylinders " There are no aircraft engines (with the possible exception of hte Wright 3350) which prime directly into the cylinders. They all prime somewhere in the intake path. "The carburetor on this is a big four barrel Holley" It's not a Holley, and it's not a 4 barrel crab. and it works nothing like an automotive carburetor. "you're actually squirting gas in the carburetor inlet" No you're not, the prime fuel is introduced after the carburetor.
