- The Beech Model 18 is seen taking-off at Bern in Switzerland. This beautifully restored aircraft is a highlight to see, and the sound is just incredible. The Beech Model 18 is a twin-engined, six-to-nine-seat, low-wing, conventional-gear general aviation aircraft. It was designed and built by the Beech Aircraft Corporation of Wichita, Kansas. The Beech Model 18 was first flown on January 15, 1937. The aircraft was certified already two months later on March 24, 1937. The first production aircraft was delivered on April 22, 1937. The Beech Model 18 was in production for 32 years, from 1937 to 1969. During that time, a total of 9,109 were built, making it the world's most popular twin-engined transport. The speed, economy and versatility of the Model 18 made it one of the most popular general aviation aircraft of its time. The speed is what is most remarkable about the Beech Model 18. It can cruise at up to 200 mph (320 km/h).
The Beech Model 18 is nicknamed "Twin Beech", "Beech 18" or "Beechy". It is powered by two 450 hp (340 kW) Pratt & Whitney R-985 Wasp Junior radial engines, mounted on the wing in tractor configuration. The Beech 18 is used across the globe in a variety of roles, including passenger and cargo transport, aerial spraying, flight training, and as a bush plane.
Even though the Model 18 is no longer in production, it remains an iconic aircraft and a favorite of both private pilots and aviation enthusiasts. The Beechcraft Model 18 is a real classic.

I logged 1200 hours in Beech-18. Loved it and miss it.
Thank you very much! ✈️ 🙏 All the best!
I've flown so many hours in the Beech 18 / C-45's they are close to my heart so thank you for such great footage Matt 👍😎
Lovely Pratt and Whitney engines
@@milesbrown8016 music to the ears of a former freight dog
Since you're blessed enough to have flown these beauties, I have to ask a question. I'm just a Flight Sim nerd, with zero actual flight time, and I've been flying one of these lately. I have a lot of trouble keeping the pitch constant, because it appears that the tail section develops lift at a much different rate than the main wings. As I get closer to maximum speed, the tail appears to lift, and the nose starts to pitch down, which increases speed, ever increasing the downward pitch, if not corrected. The inverse happens at lower speeds, with the tail section dropping, putting me into an ever increasing upward pitch. First, is this how these aircraft really fly? Second, if so, what's the strategy to manage it without autopilot? Is there an ideal cruising speed, where the lift generated is perfectly balanced? Or am I maybe just loading the thing improperly, so my center of gravity is way off?
@@honorb4glory606 This is pretty normal and yes you have to use the trim tab, some days you have to keep fighting it with the trim tabs, I hope this helps 👍😎

Now this is what I’m talking about Matt : aviation Classic Beechcraft B-18

The Silver-Million-Dollar-Baby, is flying away :-) 💓
Great catch Matt!!
I started skydiving in Alabama in 1975, and the Beech 18 was our 'big load' airlift. We had five of them running all day long in the prime season.
I have at least 500 one way rides in 18's, and the oil stains on my jumpsuit show it!!

The Twin Beech is a pilot's airplane.
You must FLY IT, chocks to chocks!
One moment of carelessness and it will GROUND LOOP ALL BY ITSELF!🤣🤣
Fine piece! The crew provided a show of finesse with the veteran lady! They simply allowed the lady to lift-off with very little elevator input. Always a satisfaction to watch the veterans perform. Cheers!

I had to come back & watch your video again, I really love these Beech 18's & C-45's I have flown in them a lot reminds of flying in a small DC-3 & I can't get enough of that sound 👍😎
Thank you Ed! It was great to see this good old Beech 18!
Even with the paint color change from red to blue I recognized my Beech. 1952 Canadian Beech 3NM. Originally a Navigational Trainer. (astrodome) It ended up being used for a "sniffer". Flying around industrial sites "sniffing" for air polution, before being sold to Apollo Astronaut. Eastern Airlines Pres Frank Borman who polished it and sold it to me in 1992. We flew it all over the country getting awards including a Silver Wrench at OSH. Always getting "Best Beech" awards. What a wonderful airplane it was. Why did I sell it!! :-(
If it had been mine I would have popped my clogs still owning it!
I miss mine too, and it was just an old beater C-45 masquerading as a SNB. I had that Sanders/Clark replica Boomerang for a while. Guy that bought it from you stopped at Jeff Abbott's, and I had already asked Jeff about going with me to look at it when you had it advertised. Jeff called me and said "guess what just pulled up on my ramp?"

Thank you! I was great to see this beautifully restored aircraft. The sound is just incredible.
Growl baby growl !! Love the radial sounds. From time to time one flies over our house. Likely privately owned by someone who takes it for a spin now and then.
Flew a D Model early in my 47 year career for about 4 years as a freight dog , LOL !!! it's what REALLY teaches you about flying , I'm retired now , but that small video took me back to sitting in the cockpit, listening to the drone of the engines at 2am over an overcast ,........ hoping the weather lifts another 50 feet so I can get in "wink , wink" brought back fond memories , thanks
Ahhh yes..... those approaches. Surprising how few misses we made. You get to know the terrain and the landmarks, almost as good as an ILS.
Got to love those classic radials!! Beautiful capture, Matt. Love that Chrome body aslo. Fantatsic!
