A tip to make this even more effective. Put a small piece of cake in the trap so it soaks up some of the mixture. The ants will cart bits off to the nest, and this seems to wipe out the nest completely. To protect other animals, I use a small lidded plastic pot, drill some 1/8inch holes near the bottom, then insert the cake and fluid and screw the top back on. The ants soon find their way in.
I saw another video just the other day that did exactly that! He used a piece of waffle. Apparently the ants will use the 'solids' to feed the larvae and the liquid for the adults. We have carpenter ants just outside the front door, and I used a yogurt container. Didn't have a drill so just cut some holes near the bottom with a sharp tipped serrated knife. I had a squeeze bottle of sugar and borax solution that I made a year ago (for ants in another area of the house) and it still worked great! (My recipe was 1 part borax to 5 parts sugar and enough water to make a syrupy consistency). Covered containers are a good optiom when you don't want other critters to get into it.

I've used this method in the past and it works like a charm. I put mine in a shallow lid inside a plastic salad or tomato container that they come in from the grocery store to keep the rain out. The containers have slits and holes to allow the ants in.
Greg, you are AWESOME !! I had an infestation around my cats food bowl-I moved the bowl to a different room, sprinkled Borax on the carpet, left it there for a few days, then vacuumed it up, then put the food bowl back---that was 2 years ago and they have never returned.
I was happy to hear that you took the time to also mention safety precautions people should take to prevent the possibility of this concoction being consumed by animals, wildlife, butterflies etc. Alot of people don't take the time to even think about such things. Thanks!
Vicki Gower I agree🙂 I have pets and am very careful to never use in any areas they can access. As for my yard, I used Tero liquid ant bait for outdoors. The ones that have the stake you push in the ground, above ground the unit holds the liquid enclosed in the hard plastic housing, which has a little hole ants can enter, then feed on the bait, which they then take back to the colony and the wicked Queen ant eats and dies. Eventually, depending on the colonies size, also kills off the other ants in the colony. What people don't realize is there can be many many colonies, which are sub colonies, and each colony can also have a lot more than jus 1 Queen. Also, not al ants like sweets, some like protein, while others like fat. Basically 3 types of foods for certain ants. I have researched that this bait as well as ant baits sold in stores, like Tero, Combat, Raid, etc...do not kill carpenter ants, fire ants, and a few other types. Also, it may take up to a month to kill ants indoors. They make colonies inside your walls, and other places. As for outdoor eradication, that too ca take a long time, but if one keeps a fresh supply of the ant bait, does not let it get depleted, make sure that the ants are actually taking the bait. The *borax [*The branded 20 Mule Team is the easiest to find]] mixture needs to have the right ratio and does not become hardened.
Quickest simplest recipe I’ve seen on RUclips re the Borax ! All the others muck around too much making it up and all particular about the texture ect . I can confirm this works extremely well. I had a persistent ant problem. I mixed up a batch but made the mistake of trying to improve the recipe by adding black strap molasses. The ants wouldn’t touch it, probably because of the sulfur. When I made it with just water, sugar, and borax, the ants ate it and were gone for about a week. I put out more and they haven’t been back.
Occasionally got ants in the kitchen, at first set up ant bait stations of the borax mixture near the areas we saw them. The ants came by droves to lap up the bait and seemed to make the problem worse. The biggest revelation was putting the bait OUTSIDE! That's where the ants were coming from I realized. After baiting the outside the number of ants seen inside dropped immediately to just a few and after three days there were no ants coming in at all.
I used this mix last year when tiny ants invaded my kitchen. I cleared out a cabinet and left a bowl full of sugar borax out. In one night it completely wiped out the colony. After 2 weeks of trying other methods I was pretty relieved.

Infinitely Better: Add some protein to it to kill the queen ants; w/o protein I don't think you get a total kill. Here is my recipe: approx. 1/4 borax. 1/2 sugar 1/4 crushed dry cat/dog food or protein powder. I vigorously stir the sugar and borax with enough hot water to make a slurry. Then I stir in the protein to thicken, stir hard until smooth and silky. IMO sugar works better than honey and is way cheaper.

'Cept we just make a paste w/ jelly or honey good dowse of borax (boron powder) & a small bit of water (just to make it a little more easier for ant to gather, but not still a watery form like he shows). We put our mix in jar lids, then set them around like ant traps - & we found the ants actually prefer these to the store bought ant traps!

I'm back to update my review. Yes, this does work. Thank you so much. It was ezzy-peezy.
You need to spray again when it rains. I put it on the ledges of my windows so they don't travel upstairs. Non toxic, and no stains. Thank you again👍🏻❤️
Thank you! I’ve been looking for an ant killer since I moved and realized we had tiny ants in the cupboards.
This is EXACTLY what I needed. As Sweltering Summer weather hits, the ants invade my home (sometimes through electrical sockets)...
Now that problem will be solved!! 💞😁💞
Is it solved?

Beneficial??
ROFL!!
I fail to see the benefit to them invading my kitchen finding any crumb or food package that isn't hermetically sealed, invading the bathroom to access the water sources during heat waves and getting in my pet's food and water dishes.

Benefit??
That's hilarious.

Borax is awesome stuff! Also kills fleas in carpet.
I sprinkle it around the edges of my carpet and areas where bugs collect when i'm winterizing my house every year. It stops most bugs from living in your house. Reapply or sprinkle more as needed.
Borax
My mrs has been conplaining about me couches , thank u will give the couches a sprinkle
I wish I could do this but my dad is insane and does not want sugar borax solutions around just because.

I mix about half boric acid and half powdered sugar in a lid of some kind (jar, yogurt, whatever). In about a week the ants are gone. Easy
I do that also. I didn't know that borax could be used too, though. The boric acid and sugar hardens sometimes after awhile and I put more water on it.
@@sheri023 I usually add scraps of fresh fruit and meat to the middle of the container to attract both sugar and grease loving ants.
That's an idea. Thanks
@@sheri023 it really looks disgusting. I keep adding more tiny pieces as the old ones dry out. I did this in May and it took about 1-2 weeks and there no ants visible anywhere. I threw away my concoction about a week ago. Even though I have store bought ant baits hidden around, they're baaacckkk. Hzve to make up a new batch.
This recipe work! I use 1 tbsp borax, add boiling water(dissolve it), then add 1.5 tbsp honey and mix well. I put it in bottle cap and also drip on ants path. Next morning no more ants!
I'm going to try this again this year. It rained so much last year that it didn't continue to work. Maybe the queen didn't get the stuff. Ant beds in the same location for three years. Actually bigger each year. Now there are ants in the cracks of the sidewalk.
So HAPPY I found this video ! I have animals and I did NOT want to use a bunch of chemicals in my house !! Thanks !
Thanks a lot , Borax really killed the ants and the ORKIN's Business as well

How well did it work im having ant problems in my shed im working on turning into a gaming studio
Excellent video thanks
Thank you so so so very much for this video!!!!!!! I did not know I had an ant problem until I was fixing my hookups for my washing machine. All of a sudden I saw all of these queen ants on the drain in the wall. There was some regular ants and a few baby ants but most of them was queen ants and there were hundreds of them. I just now found them and went straight to youtube to find out how to get rid of them and keep them away and I saw your video so I clicked on it. I am so thankful to you for this video. I always have borax for my washing clothes and I always have honey. So thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart. May God bless you in many ways. 👼💖🦄☝️
Been using this product/method for years, and it WORKS
Infinitely Better: Add some protein to it to kill the queen ants; w/o protein I don't think you get a total kill. Here is my recipe: approx. 1/4 borax. 1/2 sugar 1/4 crushed dry cat/dog food or protein powder. I vigorously stir the sugar and borax with enough hot water to make a slurry. Then I stir in the protein to thicken, stir hard until smooth and silky. IMO sugar works better than honey and is way cheaper.
Thanks for the recommendation :) We have a whole lot of ants right now😼
Nice job Greg and thanks for sharing, very helpful.
Awesome video thanks I use sugar and baking soda equal parts
This also works if jousting some borax in jelly
Oh my god Greg I love you!!! I'm being over run with ants this year, and the DE that I use to use doesn't work anymore...thanks for this great tip Greg, I'm heading to the grocery store!!
DE is a joke.
How did it go?

Oh shut up! They'd be safe if they built their nest in the vast backyard, hidden in the plants, but no, they decided to climb my walls and take advantage of the little holes in my walls. So BURN THEM ALL, fucking pavement ants.
I don't hate insects, I used to rescue them when my little nieces wanted to step over them, but there are limits! I still love my spiders, though. Those little bastards can do whatever they want in my House, at least they are shy and give me my space, fucking ants make their ways in my walls. Fuck them!!!

I’ll be trying this today! I have an ant problem that I can’t get under control. I have tried in store bait traps and sprays that don’t help much or only help temporarily. Hopefully this gets rid of these pesky things!
That mixture kills roaches too
Thank you!! They are driving me nuts
How long do you keep the borax out? Do you change it after a day or 2? Do you spray cracks and crevices with this stuff?
Great video, but what is the ratio how much water and honey do I use ?? Is it one cup of water to one tablespoon of borax and 1 tbsp of honey ??
Thanks Mate! Great video and very accurate!
The Key is Borax and honey, Oh ~ it's so simple... thanks showing this!
There is a Big Infestation of Ants of all description even Flying Ants in Southern England so this Ant Killer will come in useful Thanks for the info.
flying ants are normal. they are called alates
Flying ants are awful
I just make a thick paste using the borax and icing sugar little bit of water, but this way uses way less to do the same job, might give the liquid a go. Thanks
For my case I had taken baking powder mixed with sugar. This deposite also at any places like the kitchen and bathroom. It helps also 100%.

I've been using Borax tablets in my sailboat & i still have ants. I'm going to hive this a try & prayerfully they'll be gone in a week!
They won't eat boron/borax straight. You have to add something sweet to draw them like honey or jelly. Don't even have to water it down like this. Just mix the powder into your sweet substance, then add a little water to make it more into a paste. Then put in a jar lid (or something thing small enough for you to set in a corner & easy enough for ants to crawl in. Learned this from my Danish Grandma who learned it from her father.

Can I use baking soda instead of borax?
You are right! I've been using borax and sugar for years. It really works everytime. Thanks for the video.
This was so helpful! But is there any other alternative that I can use instead of borax? Thank you!
Thorax works good
Baking soda powdered sugar and a pinch of yeast.

Rob Maxwell thank you!
Pour about a cup of gasoline over all the ant nest in the ground, and set it on fire.
Great solution....not to mention the left over borax can be used as a laundry soap booster. Just get a new box next spring 👍
I'm going to try this. I've been doing something similar with no results. I did not add hot water. I just mixed Borax with syrup and they did not go for it. I'll let you know.
