      i think your close to being right. but i don't think it was the ascended Alterans who did it. the lore explains there are other ascended beings outside of the human ascended beings within the universe and are of much higher power than they are.
      perhaps when the new stargate comes out, this will all be explained as this was my theory as well, but i don't think it was the ascended Alteran beings in this case.
      i do think it's related to that background microwave radiation they were firstly looking for though.

      Another aspect of mystery that Universe brought was that there were no human like aliens, the aliens were distinctly alien rather than the humanoids seen in SG-1 and Atlantis. The Nakai were closest to conventional bipedal, but could never be mistaken for a human in make-up. It really sells the undiscovered nature of the worlds the crew of Destiny visited, and adds more mystery around the signs of civilisation discovered because the crew don’t have the luxury of time to properly explore it. It’s a good thing Daniel Jackson wasn’t on Destiny, he’d have gone mad knowing he couldn’t excavate these areas.

    One of SGU's strength is bringing back the unknown and discovery into Stargate. The idea of traveling to so many new planets outside the known planetery systems is really great. I think SGU had a similar vibe to early seasons of Lost, with the mysteries and danger. This Eden planet is a good example of it. The Destiny ship having a mind of his own and the crew being only here for the ride with little control over the journey was unique and compelling to follow. I'm really sad the show had to end this early.

      out of all alien races hinted at, this race is the most interesting, the whole galaxy they are in is so different than the milkyway or pegagus. It seems so very much older. • @Haiyken
      @Haiyken 3 года назад +5

      @@meganoname I get what you're saying. SGU made the choice to focus more on uninhabited planets because Destiny was so far away from known civilization. I personally liked that as it made the show more unique. Since the basis of human expansion in the universe is because of the Ancients and then the Goa'ulds, it make sense that we wouldn't find humans there. They could always have found a way to make a lost Ancient settlement somewhere along the journey. The ship was also traveling from galaxy to galaxy, so they could have found a human-like planet somewhere. In the end, SGU was less about exploration than survival. But I do understand and agree that maybe this clear departure from the SG formula (and the darker tone) is what made a lot of people don't care about the show.

    Universe definitely brought back a sense of mystery to the franchise, and a deep sense of alien-ness. Unlike Stargate Command and the Atlantis bases, Destiny was always on the move and turning back was rarely if ever an option, so long term investigation was never on the cards. When we met alien races they were distinctly differently from the ones prominent in SG-1 and Atlantis in the not only were they definitely alien looking, there was a major communication barrier, as the Ursini didn’t speak English and lacked translation devices, the Nakai had ulterior motives and the drones were just plain hostile with retreat always the only option.

    The notion that they froze to death because the door couldn't be closed was unbelievably stupid. They were there for how long before winter and they never thought to winterize their shelter? They're in the woods, they received survival training by the military personnel before they were ordered to return to the Destiny, but none of them figured out a wooden frame and door placed over the shuttles hatchway could be constructed in a day with all their manpower. Hell with an added hooded smoke vent to an open fire pit they'd have been extremely comfortable.

    • @CaseNumber00
      @CaseNumber00 3 года назад +18

      Yeah I agree, it was stupid. Nearly everyone on the ship was a very smart person recruited and picked for the US government's top secret space portal, in one field or another, and that, more often than not, transfers over to general knowledge and critial thinking. By statistics there would be one or two who camped with a family or as a hobby and had some knowledge. Even without that, some foresight would develop to maintain survival in the wilderness, like after the first few nights experiment with some fire and maintaining heat. Also, they been traveling in space for months, hunting gathering on every planet, and didnt develop skills and knowledge to preserve food?

It's not a knock on them but as a farmer and college educated, it's easy to see, even among the engineers who design machinery but can't grasp the simple concepts that are needed for some to do a better job in the real world.
      I'm thinking the planet didn't have a regular seasonal rotation. I think they got caught by surprised by a sudden onset of winter and probably thought the paradise was going to last forever and had no reason to make winter hardened shelters. I still would have done better than just use simple tents and lean-to's after time there though. Seems they didn't make basic cabins.

Having said that, I'd have to know that to quote GOT Winter is coming and would have immediately started to figure out basics like, how to build a fire. They had ample wood. Like all the wood they'd ever need. They didn't need to become carpenters overnight, they only needed to chop down some trees, line them up beside the door to reflect heat inside, and learn to build a fire. Heck, they'd only need to build it once and then keep it going. I think as with most stories, just a couple of lines of dialogue can make it much more realistic. Have it be not just cold be something like -120F cold, like so cold that a simple fire wasn't going to do it. Or have it be massive storms or flooding. Or heck a forest fire would do it if there's no escape path. Just "it's winter so they all died" is pretty lame.

      With Young, I spent the first season yelling "how are you a colonel" at the TV. The role of an officer is to make plans and decisions, and Colonel Young showed no ability to do either. They started to turn that around about a third of the way into season two. By the end of the show, he was fine.
      Chloe was extremely underwritten for a big chunk of the show. She gets kidnapped one time, then mostly processes oxygen into carbon dioxide. That got better as well later on.
      Overall, though, I never would have made it through the show if I hadn't been forcing myself to watch so I could say I gave the show a fair shot. And it does get better starting around episode seven of season two. There's absolutely no way I would have made it that far if I had been trying to watch during its run.

    Again this also points to the seed ships being even more advanced then the Destiny itself. The Destiny is slowed down considerably here because it didn't have the right telemetry from the seedships. So either the seedships are better at dealing with these situations or the are just faster (more logical since they have to travel bigger distances to seed the gates all over the place. And there is also that detail that they have to gather and make those gates while they are at it.

    Let me tell you when I saw this episode my first thought was Furlings not ancients. And now all these years later I still have the same thoughts. Of the four great races we still know the least about them!!

    • @mang4260
      @mang4260 Год назад

      Do you realize, Furlings were part of the alliance in Milky Way, and so far, Eden is located millions of years trough constant moving of Destiny away from Milky Way? What you tell here makes no sense logically speaking.
      Specially when they established the age of the sun of Eden is posterior to seedships, that are basically beyond Destiny's path but close enough, so that would mean Furlings would have created this during the time they were part of the Alliance in the Milky Way.
      Even if we don't know anything about Furlings except from this moon-trap episode from SG1, this makes no sense to think this is Furlings doing.
      It's also established the four races were basically able to communicate between them, so the Furlings know about Ancients, and they would be able to communicate with Destiny's current crew, not sending back dead people out of nowhere.
      This is clearly an unknown race, that's why it's more intriguing. Creating a sun & a planet in a few thousands years instead of millions is way beyond every race we saw in the franchise, even Oris or Ancients.
      Ancients were basically here for millions of years. When the 4 races Alliance was created, they were already on the Milky Way since millions years. They are considerate trough this Alliance like the more advanced, by Asgards telling it.
      Then they still died from pest or else. And you think, a race like Furlings, that we don't know anything about, but was part of the Alliance so at least close level to Ancients, could do something like creating a sun and a planet?
      When Destiny itself was struggling to understand why this planet and sun weren't indicated by seedship?
      I'm sorry, but this statement is so contradictory with the lore of the franchise, i can't.

    So random question here. From my understanding the human race began on Earth. When the first Goa'uld came to earth the found us and discovered we made better host/slaves. They took us through the stargate and spread us across the galaxy right?
    If that is true. What are the ancient? They seem to be humans as well. Not only them even the Nox are close to human physiology.

    • @GateWorldDotNet
      @GateWorldDotNet  3 года назад +4

      In the timeline the Ancients has ascended long before the Goa'uld came along and discovered humans on Earth. As for the Nox, as far as we know, while they look rather human they are very much not. But we don't know anything about their origins or how long they have been around, relative to the Ancients (who first arrived in our galaxy many millions of years ago).

    • @yazanmowed
      @yazanmowed 3 года назад +2

      The ancients (aka Alterans, then Lanteans by themselves) are or were humans beings or very very close that evolved in a galaxy far far away from ours, they used to be like or very similar to us, however they are millions upon million of years older which gave them enough time to evolve into something more, culminating in them reaching a stage in which they understood the universe enough and could control matter and energy sufficiently while being in the right psychological headspace to be able to shed their biological bodies and exist as pure energy instead.
      We are the second evolutionary form of them and we are heading in a very similar, but not necessarily identical evolutionary path.
      It is highly implied that in the Stargate universe, alien life, certainly sentient alien life and even more so technologically advanced versions are nowhere near as abundant as in other universes. And that even the little we see is mostly just starting to pop up all over. So much so that when the Alterans, after leaving their home galaxy just before the outbreak of a major civil war there in order to avoid it, first found our galaxy it was nearly completely devoid of life, which was a major factor in them choosing to settle it (along with it being very very far away from their home galaxy).
      They ruled an empire that lasted millions of years, some say at least 55 million years, before it collapsed due to a strange virulent disease that they couldn’t contain no matter what they did.
      Eventually some escaped in secret in the city ship of Atlantis three million years before the show started leaving the rest of their civilization to die. The last of the survivors in the Milky Way galaxy used a device they built to help terraform planets to wipe out all life capable of sustaining the virus, themselves included.
      The Ancients did not creat the Earth branch of humans as those evolved on their own (as evident in the episode were it is shown that they were surprised to find us on Earth when they returned from the Pegasus galaxy), they did however create the Pegasus humans.
      The Nox are a completely different species and has nothing to do with Humanity and the Alterans.
