It's a well-known fact that Frankie Avalon was so jealous of Peter Royce Bentley that he deliberately sabotaged Potato's career. In 1964, Peter Royce (Potato Bug) Bentley sold over 9 million records. Nowadays, except for this performance, all data on The Potato Bug has been destroyed by a jealous Frankie Avalon

Nanakuli Theater had no roof, yet had a huge stage. Whenever the music started. The crowd would get on the stage and dance. So much fun. Great memories with my cousins ❤.
For those shots PB was played by Frankie Avalon's stand-in/stunt double Ronnie Dayton. He kinda looked like Frankie (a requisite for his job), and under the wig, glasses and moustache how could you tell the difference? The two shots were NOT fabulous traveling matte / split matte technology.
This film actually has deep symbolism The film is a social commentary and reflection the Fears American music had at the time of British invasion, Frankie Avon symbolizes Old guard of Teenage stars like Paul Anka, Bobby Vinton, and Dion. The old Fashioned Teenage stars who used to be the top of the charts, the the potato bug (named after insect Beatle ) Symbolizes the British pop stars who have taken over their slots in the pop charts, and Annette Symboling the future of the American music industry. If you notice The The Potato Bug, shows up out of know were starting out showing up in a Circus tent, symbolizing that this Potato bug hype was all just a Circus. Similarly to how the music industry viewed the Beatles and Beatlemaina when they first showed up. However as his music, increases he seems to become more of a threat to Frankie Avalon's reputation and most importantly his girl. Annettes obsession with Frankie's future, represents the questions many American artist about the future of the industry and the music industry faced at the time feeling their futures are uncertain , " Am I out date?" " Can we adapt " " Is American pop dead?"
Well said. The British Invasion consumed American youth and drew them away from American-bred pop music, in droves. By the time 1965 was over halfway through, music tastes were rapidly changing and many of the 'old guard' American pop acts had either fallen into insignificance or they stopped performing altogether.
@@laurah6845 Oddly i'd argue we are living in a modern-day British invasion with K pop, Obviously not has huge phenomenon(like their are no riots over k pop acts ), nor is the music as good/inovative(not a fan personally), and obviously BTS are no Beatles. However, there are some striking similarities. Korean pop acts have taken of over Armenian pop stations folding the market with acts trying to be the next BTS, Like the British invasion modern teenage girls are going nuts for K pop boy bands and finding them cute. And like The Beatles, BTS trademark hairstyle has become popular hair style with the youth. BTS is also the first group since the Beatles to have 3 albums in the top 10 in the billboard top 100 albums at the same time too.
The filmmakers misunderstood the British invasion singers even more than they did the surfer-youth culture of the US. Frankie seemed to be doing a Terry-Thomas impersonation as Potato Bug.

The filming of the two characters in the same scenes are amazing

Honestly, I'd rather watch A Hard Days Night than these silly films
........this is even better with no context.
Wonder if Mike Myers got some inspiration for Austin Powers from Potato Bug?
Probably did, I know there's a Beyond the Valley of the Dolls reference in International Man of Mystery.

yeah, he does look like Terry Thomas doesnt he
Annette didn't learn those moves on the Mickey Mouse Club. Wow.
If Walt Disney saw Annette shake Her Booty He would have a fatal heart attack.
😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
With Disney's bad reputation of grown starlettes, I wouldn't be surprised if she did.
She was on the Mickey Mouse Club. Wow I didn’t know 😯😯😯
Frankie was in over his head trying to compete against The Potato Bug who was The Man. Let's go Rutles.
I would be a good idea for a middle school talent show skit
Como regresar el tiempo!!❤🥰💫
Adorava quando passava na sessão da tarde
Bons tempos. 👍
You have a nice channel. Keep it up, mate! Let's keep this kind of music alive.
Let's rock.

Did you see the monkey sitting at the table? 2:10
It was so funny to see the monkey enjoying the music. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
Hey that's Clyde
Gorilla not monkey.
Still sounds like Frankie Avalon!
Shouldn't Potato Bug be playing the drums not the guitar.😂😂
Now we know what Crapgame did after WWII.
this Frankie guy is like the 1960s equivalent to Kevin Hart, annoying, not funny, and in every movie
