You can get the second 1up in the Intruder Excluder stage by simply destroying the fans with the yellow pipe and then jumping to it. You can also destroy the fans by headbutting them, but only if you have the weapon for some reason. You can destroy the gas lines with your yellow pipe too. It's actually really easy as long as you have the weapon.
For sure but for us as kids at the time, the replay value was still there for the earlier levels. Still have great memories. Sort of like Road Rash and X-Men

I won't try to convince you to play it if you aren't into it, but suffice to say I think they did a good job at keeping the spirit of the game in place. Lots of different gameplay variety, fleshed out combat system, and the music is still awesome (the remixes in particular are fantastic).
Just now watching you go through level 8. To get the second 1-Up where the fans are, you simply just have to jump for it. As long as you time the jump with the fans reasonably well, you shouldn't haven much issue grabbing it and not dying. Especially if you have the bar like you did, you can instead just smash the fan on the wall and take your time lining up the jump.

Just beat Turtles 1 again, which is the best NES Turtles game, and I've been inspired to beat this one now. Awesome mike, had the mega drive version as a kid but after emulating the nes version it’s much harder but does look nice is 16bit. I’ve often wondered if you do all your practicing for some games on an ever drive kart to repeat hard parts over and over until you can do them live or whether you just keep going on a oe kart
Hey Mike, probably a random question here but do you plan on doing any more Genesis stuff in the near future? There’s actually a Genesis version of this as well as Battletoads/Double Dragon. Also...I’d love to see you get further in Rocket Knight Adventures. I know you like animation and that game really does blend Disney and Sci-Fi/steampunk aesthetics well together. (Plus...something tells me you’d try the one hit mode. I fear for your couch in advance)

Another great run Mike! When you are holding the sticks on Level 8 - Intruder Excluder you can head butt the fans. That makes it easier to get the 1-up. However you can still get it if you are careful. You just need to jump towards the 1-up and while you are still in the air press the left button on the D-pad. It takes some practice, but it really isn't that hard.

This is one of the NES games in which the whole game is hard as Shiznit. But the end boss is easy. She has a very easy pattern.

Rocket knight is an easy but nice play through. You should do Sparkster at some point. It’s much more challenging.
