I'm a Canadian living in Australia since the mid 1960s. I came to this country as a 16 year old. I've lived here ever since. I've travelled around this fabulous continent ever since, and have seen so much, and have many memorable experiences. Australia is not like any other place on earth. The geography, the fauna and the flora. And more incredible beaches than you can count. Being an island continent Australia is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Southern Ocean and the Coral Sea. For any Americans who come here on their miserly 2 weeks vacation thinking they can see everything. Forget it. Pick one destination and check it out thoroughly. If you come in January to March, go to Tasmania. It's summer in Australia, and much cooler in Tassie. If it's July to September, try Cairns. A tropical paradise. Australia is a very large piece of real estate, so do your research. Most of the middle part of the continent is VERY sparsely populated. And travel distances by road are very large.

When you are in the country travel distances are no longer talked about in terms of miles or kilometres but terms of time for example the distance from Melbourne to Warnambool is 3 and half hours not 164 miles It is a very big place and if you travel into the outback you MUST take extra WATER PETROL AND OIL a lot of tourists didn't and they were never seen again

Iva Davies ( Ice House ) is a classically trained oboe player who decided to give rock and pop a go.
Forget the rock, he doesnt seem to know what ROCK is, but his POP is often next level.
Not usually my taste in music but he does write great pop songs with brilliant arrangements.
Man of Colours is one of my all time favourite songs, and yet definitely not my style.
He uses his oboe as the intro to great effect , creating a perfect ambience to a deep story.

Icehouse captures the distance, the space, the isolation, the extraordinary beauty ... the sheer complex vastness of Australia. Modern cities perched on the edge of the oldest continent on the planet. Australia has landscapes so unique, so startling, they really look and feel like another planet. And when you are in the Outback, standing on a rocky outcrop, casting your gaze in every direction and not seeing one other living thing for a hundred square kilometres, then you really feel you have been transported to a time hundreds of millions of years ago. It is humbling; it is sublime. The land is an immense and ancient presence that fundamentally shapes every aspect of a person.
In essence, "Great Southern Land" sounds like how I feel about being Australian.

I live in Redcliffe, Queensland and across Morten Bay is Morten Island which has some of the highest sand dunes in the world (285 metres). When I was a kid, we'd get in a boat and go across the bay and camp on the island for a couple of weeks. We'd grab our big pieces of cardboard, climb the dunes and toboggan all the way down. The dune was so high that you'd pick up enough speed that you'd fly across the beach at the bottom of the dune until you were almost in the surf!! Great times! Thanks for the video, I really appreciated it.
