  • One of the parts I need to check with the MX5 Gearbox swap is that the engine will turn over correctly and if the starter motor fits now that it sits on the opposite side it used to be.

I’d make sure you’ve got a nice big fuse on either end of the battery positive, just in case of the cable getting pinched against anything earthed.

You're right, I'm also going to put a bulkhead connector in too.

You're right, I'll sort it when the engine comes out again

the pre kent xflow is before my days so quite interesting from the development point of view , and the pre xflow 1500 is linked to the lotus twin cam engine ,nice
why are youtubers putting bike carbs on engines over twice the capacity ?? gut reaction is thats asking for problems or is it 2 sets of bike cabs so its ok as per cylinder capacity?

They share a cylinder block but that's about it.
As for bike carbs. People have been using them since before RUclips, they need to flow a high amount of air and fuel so a 600cc bike revving much higher than a 1500cc pre crossflow will. This is seen in the choke sizes - the fazer carbs are 32mm which is what you'd use in a DCOE 40.
Back in 2006/7 a friend of mine has a 2l pinto running running r1 carbs, once set up it ran well in traffic and flat out.
My setup was started in 2014 and shelved as I had bigger jobs to finish!

is the pinion tight on ring gear,i had it two years ago,i removed some metal out of the right hand side of a starter stud hole and the pinion was releasing ok then.

That's right, the pinion is connecting fine but I think its just that bit too close that it's not relasing. I'm going back and just seeing where I've gone wrong before I commit to anything.
