  • Continuing on with the MX5 gearbox conversion.
    The gearbox is now mounted on the engine, a few small things to watch out for.
    In car work next, Speedo cable, clutch master cylinder crossmember cleaning, oh and by the way I’ve now sent the exhaust extractors for ceramic coating.
    Extractors should be back in a couple of weeks.

      It’s well worthwhile, hence the reason I’m doing my second MG. Makes a big difference to the performance. Additionally no oil leaks, it’s 20 kilos lighter and no overdrive issues.

    Coming along nicely. I recall it was quite a struggle getting the gearbox tail up over the crossmember on install….hope it goes well. Mike Ruckman did me a custom shift knob because I didn’t like the 8 ball knob. Highly recommend his work. Clutch banjo was surprisingly easy as was connecting the speedo.

      Speedo and clutch banjo, I’ll hold you to that. I’ve since had a look at the banjo bolt with the rubber bung removed, agree, it now looks a tad easier. Speedo cable, jury is still out. Thanks for the comments. Cheers Marty

      I machined up a bush and when I went to fit it it looked really ugly so this time round I've gone with the design as supplied, I'm not going to be doing a lot of k's so it should be fine, famous last words I know.........

    Does the Mazda box have the same bolt pattern as an MGB? Or has the Mazda box been fitted with a special bell housing or casing?

      Hi There, The MX5 gearbox has a beautifully crafted cast aluminium bellhousing which bolts onto the MX5 gearbox itself.

    Were the 6 "spacer" washers for the clutch cover the same as the other 11 flat washers ?

      Hi Paul, Had a similar thought when I saw all the washers so I checked with a micrometer, and yes they are all the same. Based on the quality of the conversion kit I sort of knew that if the spacers washers were a different thickness they would have been separated somehow, maybe a cable tie or a plastic bag. Was worth checking anyway.

      Sorry about that Kevin, I’m working on my camera skills, I did a couple with the camera on a stand and people missed what they wanted to see so I deleted them and went back to original, I’m trying not to move around to much, thanks for the feedback, all received with thanks, appreciate the honesty. Cheers Marty

    Hi What back plate have you used is it the standard MGB ?

    • @CrapToCream
      @CrapToCream  2 месяца назад

      Yes used the original backplate, the Mazda gearbox comes with a new precast bell housing.
