Big shoutout to Shawn at Perfect Pitch Roofing & Exteriors for letting me borrow his XR650L! Be sure to check out his website at www.ppgeinc.com/. Also, don't forget to visit the Adventure Palooza website at www.adventurepalooza.com for info on the upcoming event. Thank you all for the amazing support-it means a lot!
Here is the XR's mod list: The bike is equipped with ProTaper YZ High Bend bars, mirrors, a Clarke 4.8-gallon fuel tank, smog delete, billet footpegs, a skid plate, a battery relocation mod with a lithium-ion battery, a Tusk rear rack with subframe support, a Seat Concepts low comfort seat, hand guards, a 1.75" lowering link with a matching kickstand, a taillight mod, Rox Speed offset risers, and a Big Gun Evo slip-on exhaust.
I had one back in 94 and sold it to buy a Harley, what a mistake, all I did was work on that thing all the time, I have 13 bikes now street bikes, vintage bikes street and dirt, modern bikes street and dirt but I just picked up a brand new 2024 xr650l and I’m having more fun riding this then any of my other bikes, thinking of selling a lot of them now the XR is all I need, I might try a cross country ride with it this spring and if it goes good I will definitely sell a few of my bigger bikes
XRs are great!! I have owned a few. That said...the beauty of a dual sport, as mentioned...is that you can ride them, literally...anywhere. The "plate" is a free pass to a ton of riding that otherwise would not be available. But...as much as I love XRs...any plated dual sport bike has the same freedom. ...not dissing XRs...but promoting the dual sport community. Come and ride dual sport ..no matter the bike. It's a great group of riders!!!
I owned the first year of production (93), had to sell it, and have been riding a 2016 since new. Have owned countless dedicated dirt bikes on top of the big red pigs, and I'll say that this is still the last bike I'd sell! Needs jetting kit, good muffler, and bar risers to begin with...and I definitely like a lowered gear ratio! Though heavy, these are a fun, reliable, doomsday machine!
The mod list is directly from the owner and is accurate. Maybe you are looking at the Mod list for my Versys-X 300 which is also in the description (the Versys-X is my main bike). The XR mod list should be just above that. Thank you for watching!

You are welcome! Thanks for lending me the bike!
I have the grandfather of these, the 1983 XL600R, runs like a Japanese Seiko watch. It's kick start only, but sure is fun on the forest service roads.

@@SheldynRyder
It’s amazing but not gonna lie got a seat concepts seat ordered don’t think I could do Adventurepalooza on that stock seat
Are you taking the XR for Palooza? Or sticking with the KLR?
@@SheldynRyder gonna ride the KLR. I’ll look ya up in Mexico don’t forget your rain gear!!!!
@@mcclen03able sounds good brother! I already got it packed lol 😆
I use to live in Audrain county .
The changes over the past 30 years were BNG. Bold New Graphics.
40 yr old technology. Yes, probably reliable as but do I want to ride a brand new bike that rides like my last dirt bike from 40 years back?
sure.
If you could only have one bike, would you pick a Versys X 300 or this XR650L?
I would lean more towards the VX3 if I had to choose! But it would be a tough decision.
Good video. But your list of mods for the XR is completely inaccurate.
