The Versys-X 300 is an excellent gravel road tourer. In 4th gear at 60 km/h I have never wished it had more power. I don't do power slides around blind corners because you never know who might be coming the other way.

I really appreciate this honest review. I’m thinking about getting a Versys x300 and it’s refreshing to hear the good and the bad so I can make an educated decision. It would be my first motorcycle and I would use it for commuting and occasional off road (gravel and dirt fire road) exploration. We have some amazing areas here in central Oregon. Keep the videos coming!!

I bought one of these for my wife (new rider) and I have ridden it more than she has. Fun bike but know it’s limitations . I would suggest removing the stock skid plate so you can see that it was never really intended for serious off road. Cheap crappy mounting brackets that will break easily. A couple of rubber mounts that are impossible to remove if there is even slightest bit of corrosion. If you plan to use it for much off road I would steer you away. I did put a taller windscreen on it and that makes a difference. Also now that I think about it…..80 mph freeway speeds for any extended period is not very comfortable on this bike.

Great video, I'm shopping for a Versys X to replace my VStrom 650. I love my bike, but it's getting a tad bit heavy for me and I have arthritis in my left wrist and hand, so pulling the clutch can sometimes be very painful. I went to a dealer last week, walked up to one, sat on it (seat is really hard yikes) but when I pulled the clutch it was buttery smooth :) As for the seat, you never mentioned anything about it, so I guess it hasn't been an issue for you or did you buy an aftermarket one?

@@StefanoLandi I just paid the $229 and they sent me the foam and cover kit. I just removed the old cover and foam, and installed their kit on the stock seat pan. Pretty easy. A staple gun and some spray on glue is all I needed.

XRs are great!! I have owned a few. That said...the beauty of a dual sport, as mentioned...is that you can ride them, literally...anywhere. The "plate" is a free pass to a ton of riding that otherwise would not be available. But...as much as I love XRs...any plated dual sport bike has the same freedom. ...not dissing XRs...but promoting the dual sport community. Come and ride dual sport ..no matter the bike. It's a great group of riders!!!

Great vid review of a great bike. Kawasaki hit a home run with this design. I have & ride a Husaberg FE390 for serious off road stuff and a Suzuki Vstrom 650XT for more highway oriented trips, but I still like the X300 for commutes, and also mountain & Jeep trails. Rode the X300 from Silverton, CO to Moab Utah on the TAT - includes several mountain passes, Jeep trails, etc, and then rode a few of the easier trails around Moab. Bike did great in general and the Mitas E07+ tires did very well on everythign but deep sand. I'm 6'3" and weight 215 lbs / carried about 35 lbs of luggage on Givi racks with DIY mounted Pelican cases and a soft duffel. The bike is so easy to handle I just plan on keeping it. I added 2" Rox Pivoting Risers, lowered the pegs one inch now it fits me as well as any bike I've ever owned. I added some padding under a Sit&Fly seat cover and really helpe the rock that Kawasaki calls a seat. Thanks again, good comments and good footage.

I'm a long-legged 6'4", so put drop pegs on mine. Now my legs better match the angle of the fairings, and blood can flow to my lower extremities, too. Lost slight lean angle before scraping pegs, but no biggie. Btw, neither of the previous two owners, in their 12 years, scraped pegs. I was the first, on factory pegs, by tucking in tighter and tighter on a roundabout.

Have owned countless dedicated dirt bikes on top of the big red pigs, and I'll say that this is still the last bike I'd sell! Needs jetting kit, good muffler, and bar risers to begin with...and I definitely like a lowered gear ratio! Though heavy, these are a fun, reliable, doomsday machine!

I have 2022…LOVE. Liked and subscribed. Some thoughts on my experience and a question for you/others: Agree 100 with your points. I found the most “necessary” mod categories for me were 1) Maintenance and trip packing: center stand OEM/kickstand foot (GIVI) - ease of use 2) Drop/crash protection: Barkbusters/crash bars (Ricochet)/exhaust slider (T-rex) - I drop a lot due to short legs and adventurous riding 🤗 3) Lighting: LED bulbs all around/driving-fog-conspicuity lights (Denali) - stock lighting, esp headlight, is way inadequate. I LOVE riding at night now; 4) Windscreen: adjustable windscreen mount (allroundsupplier)/windscreen visor (Puig- clip on) - the combination of these two enables the stock screen to offer ~5” more height/coverage, which is fine on highway for me at 5’7” AND allows removal of extension for off road protection (of neck/chest). LOVE this set up for my height/needs! 5) Gearing: 15T front sprocket (JT - rubber bumpered) - significantly increases town and highway/touring experience, and still functional for general off road 6) Seat: aero seat cover (Sit&Fly) - stock seat is notably uncomfortable Have done lots of other things, but these were the absolutely most important ones (for me) for full safety/functionality/enjoyment…again, for me. I LOVE this bike…it is a hidden gem to the general moto market. Question: how often (mileage) did you do the valve adjustment maintenance during your 30k? Thank you!

Thanks for the comment! The lights were something I forgot to mention! The stocks were pretty bad! I went LED all the way around, as well! I haven't been too particular with the valve adjustments. I am at 35k now. I bought the VX3 with about 6k on it. I assume the initial adjustment/check was done before I bought it. I had a check done at 15k (no adjustment needed). I have not had it checked recently.

Thanks for reply. Believe those valve adjustments are the only major expense/“must-do” project for this super value-proposition bike. My bike is running great at 7.2k, so trying to decide my approach - manual’s schedule or adjusted step sched like yours. Based on your experience will probably opt for some kind of stepped schedule: 7.5k. 17.5k, 30k, 45k. Thanks again. Appreciate your channel. Ride safe.

I do two meals. One at lunchtime around Noon and one in the evening around 7:00 PM. This has been something that is natural for me and is not something I started when I went to Carnivore.
