  • Bob Crosby (August 23, 1913, Spokane, Washington March 9, 1993, La Jolla, California) was an American dixieland bandleader and vocalist, best known for his group Crosby and the Bob-Cats.
Bob Crosby began singing with Anson Weeks (1931-34) and the Dorsey Brothers (1934-35). He led his first band in 1935, when the former members of Ben Pollack's band elected him as titular leader. His most famous band, the Bob-Cats, was a Dixieland jazz group with members from the Bob Crosby Orchestra. Both the Bob Crosby Orchestra and the smaller Bob-Cats group specialized in Dixieland jazz, presaging the traditional jazz revival of the 1940s. Crosby's singing voice was remarkably similar to that of his brother Bing, but without its range.
The Bob Crosby Orchestra and the Bob Cats included (at various times) Yank Lawson, Billy Butterfield, Muggsy Spanier, Matty Matlock, Irving Fazola, Ward Silloway, Warren Smith, Eddie Miller, Joe Sullivan, Bob Zurke, Jess Stacy, Nappy Lamare, Bob Haggart, Walt Yoder, Jack Sperling, and Ray Bauduc. Arrangements for the orchestra were often done by a young trumpeter by the name of Gilbert Portmore who, during the time he was a WWII fighter pilot in the South Pacific, started an Air Force swing band known as Cap'n Portmore's Hepcats.[1]
The orchestra was actually led by sax player Gil Rodin, with Crosby himself simply the front man, chosen for his personality, looks, and famous last name.[2]
Hits included "Summertime" (theme song), "In a Little Gypsy Tea Room", "Whispers in The Dark", "South Rampart Street Parade", "March of the Bob Cats", "Day In, Day Out", "You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby", "Dolores" and "New San Antonio Rose" (last three with Bing Crosby). A bass and drums duet between Haggart and Bauduc, "Big Noise from Winnetka," became a hit in 1938-39.
Bob Crosby has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, for Television and Recording.
Three of his songs were featured in the successful 2008 role-playing video game Fallout 3. The tracks included were the hits "Way Back Home" (from the 1949 Danny Kaye film "The Inspector General"), "Happy Times" and "Dear Hearts and Gentle People", variously played either on the in-game radio station 'Galaxy News Radio' or the promotional trailers.

The songs chosen for Fallout are amazing. They relate in a subtle way to the themes of loneliness and overcoming your troubles, adding a lot of atmosphere to the game.

Meredith MacInnis Bing was also a movie star, and was ten years older so he got a big start much before Bob. Bing was the biggest star of them all, and Bob was a star. I would say both are talented vocalists but Bing is much more, and Bing sang songs in every genre, while Bob stuck to jazz.

Honestly the biggest reason fallout has always kept my attention was because of the radio on your pip boy. I honestly don’t think I would’ve been playing over and over for years to come if the radio were any different.

I see all these arguments here, about whether you're here because of Fallout or whether you are here because you know about Bob Crosby and don't know about Fallout. What I have to say is:
Why does it matter? If you love this beautiful music, it should not matter why, when, or how you were introduced to it.
I'm a 16 year old who loved this kind of music before playing games with them in it (I also do like Fo3 quite a bit) but I admit games introduce me to great lesser-known artists and songs.

This song fits fallout 3 and 4 perfectly. I remember when I first heard this in fallout 3 was right after watching James die and getting to the citadel. I remember walking to little lamplight as this was still playing and I had a feeling that my character was reminiscing abt the time he had w/ James past and present. Then when I first heard this in fallout 4 it was right after I got out of the vault for the first time b/c I wanted to see if Diamond city radio could hold up to GNR and when this song and many other fallout 3 songs were being used again. I remember smiling.

    Lyrics:
    Wish on the moon
And look for the gold in a rainbow
    And you'll find happy times
    You'll hear a tune
That lives in the heart of a bluebird
    And you'll find happy times
Though things may look very dark
Your dream is not in vein
For when you find the rainbow
    Only after rain
    So wish, on the moon
And someday it may be tomorrow
    You will suddenly hear chimes
And you'll have your happy, happy times
    So wish, on the moon
And someday it may be tomorrow
    You will suddenly hear chimes
And you'll have your happy, happy times!
