Basically what type of accident it says you get. With Soft it's Accident, Accident!! and Accident!!! (with the exclamation marks underlined). Hard it's Accident, Serious Accident, and Fatal Accident. Hard/Soft animations control what happens to the driver. With Hard, they can actually flop forward over the car hood in a crash. With Soft that won't happen and they'll remain fully in the car.

It's so weird to see someone racing in a Corsa. That was my first car and it's really slow lol.
The speed of the car when playing solo doesn't really matter, as the game employs excessive rubber-banding when playing against the AI.
