I have my 1st paid shoot coming up but it's with an extended family (Mom,Dad, son, daughter, daughter's hubby, daughter's kid). How would you pose all of them together?

Thank you for this. There are 20 million videos for little kids and to me they are easier. They connect easy. Teens can be awkward and harder to get a connection in the photos. Only been doing photography for 9 months.
Thank you so much! I’m new to photography and this was really helpful! I normally shoot younger families but tomorrow I have a family with four teenagers!
Shot models professionally about 16 years ago. Stopped shooting for a good span of years. Current time, friends are asking for family shoots which I rarely ever did to begin with. Now! After watching your vids I fell confident to get back in the saddle:)
Hi! Just wanted to say thanks for this video! I've been a photographer for about 15 years but I don't do many family shoots. It was a bit hard to find videos involving older kids - and I appreciate your ideas and examples. Happy to have discoved your channel, keep up the great work!
One video I'd love to see you make, because I love your style of photography and how you present your content on here, is the older generation and posing them. Grandparents often have limited mobility so posing is difficult. There are very few videos of this and the tips that help.
Thank you so much for talking about a time limit. I can't tell you how much anxiety it causes me thinking that a shoot needs to be an hour at the minimum and with older kids it is much quicker and so I felt I wasn't doing enough.
I'm not a photographer yet. We just want to make a portrait of our family, my husband + me + 9 children. And I am looking for an interesting poses for all of us. Our friend is going to take a pictures of us because it's expensive to have a professional photographer.
This is great. I haven't really thought about shooting the walking poses from a different angle. In general, I shoot seniors and sports. I only do families when one of my senior families request it. My main reason for not doing families is posing. It's much easier to focus on one person!
Senior portraits are easier and why not just do those, I agree. I have a headshot client who has requested me for family portraits, it's going to be hot humid and wet on the ground the day of our shoot in a couple of days, I'm dreading it. I love doing commercial work in the studio and seniors, thinking about referring her to someone else.
Thanks for sharing this, it's very helpful. I started doing portraits for people 6 years ago, and last year began to get more serious about things. Posing is what I'm the worst at, even though I have great instincts and am good at working with whatever or whomever is there. I appreciate what you are showing us.
I remember experiencing E- Squared methods on how photgraphers help family members on the fly all feel more comfortable when getting their picture taken regardless of how camera shy some of those family members are. My advice to anyone who buys this service is to include the photographer during the wedding dress rehersal too if at all possible.
Great tips! I’m glad I found your video. Also, do you have any tips on shooting in an open field with no trees? For example, it’s probably better to wait until about 30 minutes to an hour before the sun goes down?
I've been photographing for about 10 years! Started with my kids and then went into family photography photographing families, weddings, and animals! Love your videos I have learned a lot from you guys!
I really wish I could just come and job shadow with you all. But I'm in Germany. 😂 Everytime I have a photography scenario, here I come running back to your page for guidance. I am not a business, by I do photography as a pro hobbyist for the last 2.5 years.
I love this, thank you for posting! I wish I had your tutorials 15 years ago when I started and friends asked me to do portraits. I do more landscape photography now,but occasionally do portraits and your videos have helped so much!!
Thanks for yet again answering all my questions and making me feel better about my upcoming session. I watch one or more of your videos before each session I have to help ease my nerves and up my confidence. Thank you! ❤️
two years I took up the camera and this year started photographing humans, did a wedding, senior photos, couples, now families. I am a hobby photographer Nikon D800 and D600
I love the cheek to cheeks pose. So many ways this will look great! I have a family of 11 kids plus parents plus spouses and babies. How could I do some great cheeks? Thanks Emily, I've been shooting for 34 years, but business only 1 year. I love the artistic outlet! Sunflowers & Smiles Photography
I love this...new question though for a possible video....what do you do about "larger" people? I had a recent session and the "larger" sized family members couldn't get their heads together to look close and even sitting and getting close was a challenge, etc. How do you handle this and diversify the poses?
Hi! Love your youtube videos. Especially posing senior girls. I just got bak from Showit United and wondered do you ever go to/speak at photography conferences?
@@esquared.photography Showit United was so much fun. Everyone so nice. Wonderful keynote speakers: Amy and Jordan Demos and Katelyn James among many other very talented and sweet educators. Any terrific breakout speakers…Hope Taylor and Cassie Claire among many others. This was the last year for United. So glad I was able to attend my first and only Showit United.
Really? I had my first Family Shoot with older kids yesterday! Where were you Saturday with this information? lol Kidding of course. So much enjoy your training!
I used to photograph babies and maternity. Still have my camera, all my stuff & I thought, my kids will be at the beach let's do a family photo! My son & daughter are both over 6 foot, my husband and I look like toddlers next to them! 😁 So I came here looking for ideas.... One, I'd love for their height to be seen but two, it will look awkward in the photo.
Your walking pose #3 where the family is backlit with sun flare...this is where I have trouble with settings! The pictures seem to be much grainier and out of focus. What were your settings for this particular picture? If I could tackle sun flare, I would solve a lot of my problems -LOL!!
Thanks for the video. I have large family shoot (10 pulse 3 grandchildren). My question is do you shoot for 8x10 or 8x12? Or do you shoot and frame your shots so they would work in both?
I take a family of 4 kids: 3 teens boys and a teen girl. I always wonder how to not make the boys hold hands or link arms to convey togetherness lol in different poses.
How are you able to shoot natural light with the subject lighted perfectly with the sun to their back and the background not being blown out. When get the background where I want it, the subject is dark.
Hi! Um, I have a question. I know y'all have made videos on getting sharp images for group photos, but what about what focus point to use and who to put it on depending on how everyone is positioned?

Thank you for the insights! I received my first 35mm camera 39 years ago and shot mostly scenic photos until my kids came along.
Thank you for doing a video of Families with older kids! These are always a struggle and not a lot of education about them out there!
Absolutely!
Love that this is geared towards older kids. I struggle with older kids during sessions. They are so much cooler than I am.

Liked moving to a different location and doing the same poses. They might be more relaxed or just better at it the 2nd time around.

Do you have to do a lot of head swaps on post? Must be so hard getting everyone to look good in a single photo if they are walking, chatting etc
This is great. Any tips for adapting this for if there’s only one adult child?
We would do the same things most likely. It’s hard though with that because the session will go so quick.
