    Some good ideas here. I had heard about the section at the store having rice, but didn't think about pasta. I will check there next. I also forget about making garlic bread pizza. That's a really good idea because so many times at the stores you can find french bread on clearance so that could easily be turned into that.

    After watching this video again, a year later, it would be interesting to see how much more these $5 meals would cost in 2023. Great meal ideas and suggestions, still.

    something I do when I cant afford to buy bulk chicken is I use can chicken. I have had weeks where I don't have money to buy the big bag of chicken simply based on I didn't have the extra money (although yes, ultimately it is cheaper to, but no money means no money), I buy the can chicken,, making chicken fried rice with canned chicken is super cheap and you can make it last for a couple meals or more depending on how many people you are feeding. I love these videos, thanks for sharing, it always gets my creative side going

    You showed a great example of budget planning in buying in larger quantities and breaking down by price per meal/serving. Some weeks we'd eat lots of chicken cuz it was cheapest protein and there was so much it would last a week! But I've shopped sales and generic/store brand items for over 40 years! Thanks for sharing!

    We have a lot of different sauce packets too. I just can't see throwing the extras away. Soy sauce, Arby's sauce, mustards, ketchup, duck sauce, mild taco sauce, etc. It adds up, and can save money when using it in meals at home.

    Good ideas! Thank you! I didn't really realize there is cheaper pasta in the Hispanic section, so I'm going to have to try that! Here's another super cheap idea: homemade chicken and noodles. Canned chicken (or other chicken you might have on hand), one or two packets of chicken gravy, make your own noodles. Boil your chicken and noodles in broth. Sometimes I add in peas and carrots, too... and then mix in prepared gravy to thicken. We like it served over mashed potatoes. So filling, comforting, and CHEAP!

      Check the dollar tree, and check the ingredients on the back of packages. I find a lot of dollar tree snacks for my kids that actually have decent ingredients and are the same, if not better than the name brand!

    That tip about the ethnic sections having cheaper pasta was great! Also, the advice about frozen ground turkey was awesome! These were really great suggestions! There is a store here called Bargain Hunt (like Big Lots and Ollie’s) and I found Rice A Roni and the Chester Cheetos Mac - and - cheese for .75 per box the last time I was in there so I grabbed four of each flavor. Our family of four will eat two boxes of each so for $1.50 for each side dish for four people is a great deal.

    • @wendywilliams2160
      @wendywilliams2160 2 года назад +1

      They have family size rice a roni boxes at my Walmart for $1.48, maybe check the ounces and compare them, might be better than buying two boxes when you can’t find them at the other stores!

    • @jenniferpierson4723
      @jenniferpierson4723 2 года назад

      @@wendywilliams2160, thank you so much for sharing the information, ounces per box definitely figures into the cost per meal.

    I definitely have a meat and potato man! I try to sneak in Turkey too 😂 He’s so picky! The only “Italian” food he will eat is spaghetti. He loves pizza and we do homemade French bread pizza 😋 in the air fryer! If I don’t have any prepared sauce I’ll use a small can of tomato sauce with some garlic and Italian seasoning! I got him loving carrots but only with a glaze 😂 I need to try that Asian chili wing sauce! Love Walmart brand for stuff like that. There’s a few items I go name brand like Dukes Mayo but there’s nothing wrong with Great Value in my book! I’m a pretty new subscriber & I enjoy watching your vids! Have a wonderful week! 😊
