Beauty, stage presence, energy, musicianship, great songs, crowd going nuts, band loving every minute of it. What a band. What a party. What I wouldn’t give to be transported back there!
I think they could keep a beat in the gloom and the party would still dance and go on with some more up beat and powerful songs to come along. And/or cocaine
Andy added a certain edge and sound the band as they exploded into the scene back then. He shouldn't have left Duran Duran. They all had that perfect chemistry together.
This is awesome. Really shows their energy and that they're a proper band. I'm a lifelong Durannie and have never seen this before. And Simon was just sooo gorgeous sigh.
I was there. An evening school trip. The teachers had told us to stay in our seats but the occasion got to us and we all ran to the front of the stage. The support was by John Cooper Clark, who swore quite a lot much to the teachers disgust. I was probably about 14 at the time.
A school trip?! Serious? The most we did in Australia was go into the city and visit the museum or the zoo. 🤣 Now this would have been an epic school trip.
Wow!😱😱😱 you must have had some Fab teachers. Most of us could never get so lucky! Bet you guys got home real late and told your parents all about it the next day
Duran Duran a boy band. Hardly. Very talented all 5 in their own perspective way. Yet raw and original and innovative. No band can come close to the videos this band came out with in the 80s mainly from the first 3 albums.
All top notch musicians, though most of the guys had little experience, just great ideas and work rate. And, most of all, the drum tracks were all a take through the whole song, no punching in and out back then. Yes, some overdubs with rototoms at some places, but those beats, thats recording straight through the whole song in studio
This was I was here. I was 13 and my first gig! It was a free gig and they gave tickets away in the local paper The Promotor. It was incredibly loud. Quite a few hardcore New Romantics came down from London. It blew me away. Of course I brought Rio when it came out but the early stuff had a real edge to it that you can see in this live performance. It’s really lovely to have a momento of your 1st ever gig
I did too. I can't remember if it was a late-night feature on Night Flight or Nickelodeon of that era circa 1984 but I could not get enough of it. By the middle of 8th grade, I was a Nick Rhodes clone and an utter fangirl for .. the entire band.
@@helenheathmosher3804 Nickelodeon did air it, as part of the Special Delivery block (and presumably as part of the Nickelodeon Saturday Concert block that debuted the following year). The concert was repeated on both blocks several times.
This was filmed a mere two months before they would write and record the album that would launch them into international superstardom, “Rio” ... Their music in its totality will always be the soundtrack to my life.

WOW!! One of my first introductions to Duran Duran. This concert came on after a show called You Can’t do that on Television on Nickelodeon. Memories! Thanks for posting this!
YES!!!!! Nickelodeon..... This was the first time I'd seen them. I went to Bass guitar a year later and I have been playing bass ever since. Thanks DD for inspiring a life long musical journey.
So great that they start the show with Friends of Mine, one of my absolute faves. That ending from the line "what you doing friends of mine" .. wow. The first album is so good. I played it every day for months. And damn they look good.
He used to get nervous and lapse into just playing 16-th notes on his solo with random accents. shame, cause he was and still is, a really good drummer-probably the most solid timekeeper in the business. If you find some of the more current videos of him and John warming up backstage, he really has some good chops.
So many of these great songs are left out of current sets by DD ... 2016 and they still leave them out. Sad ... such great tunes! I heard that My Own Way is amongst their most hated song ... never played after Rio album tours.
Last year they did. I saw them in Palm Springs and then 2 nights in Vegas and they added different older songs every night. The crowd went wild hopefully they keep it up. That is if we ever get live concerts again...
Delighted to find this gem... they were talented, creative and a ambitious group of lads. The first album is still so fresh. Looking forward to seeing them alive again this year
Always a Duranie but its my first time to see and hear this and 💘 💘 💘 the rock sounds side of this songs. I wish they could do this sounds again in their future gigs either 2021 or 2022 onwards!!!🎸 🎸 🎸
Would have loved to be there. My favorite live version of "Friends of Mine" is on someone's phone that shows their opening/introduction from "Clockwork Orange " the Beethoven Theme. The Hard Rock performance with Warren is pretty good as well (no John Taylor).
I was there! Our school were given tickets and we had a choice of a few bands, but I chose Duran Duran - what a great gig it was!
Beauty, stage presence, energy, musicianship, great songs, crowd going nuts, band loving every minute of it. What a band. What a party. What I wouldn’t give to be transported back there!

And THAT GUITAR tone that Andy Taylor had.....SICK!!!!

Duran Duran are one of the most underrated rock bands in history. They helped influence and shape the music industry into what it is today:
- Credited as being the biggest pioneers for the 'music video' as a serious medium for musicians to pursue.
- The 'Fab Five' had an 80's 'Beatlesque' arrival in America - 2nd in world wide popularity only to Michael Jackson.
- Pioneered the 2nd 'British Invasion' (which wouldn't have amounted to much without Duran Duran).
- Only music act to hit #1 on Billboards hot 100 with a James Bond theme.
- First music act to sell a song on-line (Electric Barbarella), going against the stream of the anti-napster lawsuits.
- Formed in 1978, and haven't stopped making music since, despite all the so-called 'reunions'.
- Nick Rhodes is often credited as being the world's first 'Metrosexual'.

Duran Duran weren't a band for girls..their early stuff stands up with any other new romantic band of the time
i was 2 to that time but damn i wish i would have seen this live
Love it...!!
I've gone thru two songs already and this is some of their best work
This was such a good concert it felt like I was there
What a fantastic video! Every single one of these songs reminds me of being 13. They are such a great band!
Young Simon looked like a god...
Absolutely Brilliant !!👌
Just found this;;; jumping up and down in my living room
Never saw this one. It’s dated but the sound is sooooo good. You can hear everyone’s work. Love it! Sounds a bit punk and rock. Very interesting !
Great!! The boys still got it. Just went to see them a few weeks ago in Oakland ca❤️❤️❤️❤️🙌🏽🙌🏽
OMG, simon's old dancing style is Hilarious!!!! :D
Bunny - they called him, Bunny; now you know why. I still emulate him when the old stuff comes on.
@@michaelscoots well i knew that they called him 'elvis' for a while...
Andy pure energy ... great
I love Andy’s energy & voice I miss him❤
omg YESSSS, I have been trying to find this clip for DAYS. I had taped it back on VHS as a kid ... you have made my day!
Well damn. Taking me back to 5th grade. I was obsessed for the next 5 years!
Could you imagine being there? I’m 51 and would of been a very young teen of 12!!
Yep I was there. I’m 54 now so the......14!
@@debbiepakulski6484 oh my gosh!! I can’t imagine what that must’ve been like to have been there!! Lucky!!
So many of these great songs are left out of current sets by DD ... 2016 and they still leave them out. Sad ... such great tunes! I heard that My Own Way is amongst their most hated song ... never played after Rio album tours.
They played a couple years ago live.
Yeah 1980-1982 era DD was my favorite in the catalog
Last year they did. I saw them in Palm Springs and then 2 nights in Vegas and they added different older songs every night. The crowd went wild hopefully they keep it up. That is if we ever get live concerts again...
tremendo desempeño de la banda. Andy 14:57 y Roger... tremendos músicos, y Simó con su voz tan especial, J. Taylor 8:35... Nick un gran secuenciador.
tienes rason eduardo.
Delighted to find this gem... they were talented, creative and a ambitious group of lads. The first album is still so fresh. Looking forward to seeing them alive again this year
They are like no other band in world. Brilliant 🎉
What a band! Andy Taylor is awesome.
The songs remain iconic classics.
Thanks for sharing this, it's fantastic to see such an early gig. ❤

So much excellence!!!
lo mejor verdad sharyn?
tambien eres fan?
ok.
Always a Duranie but its my first time to see and hear this and
💘 💘 💘 the rock sounds side of this songs. I wish they could do this sounds again in their future gigs either 2021 or 2022 onwards!!!🎸 🎸 🎸
Their voices weren't the same when younger. Now they r professional
80's..is the best era
Would have loved to be there. My favorite live version of "Friends of Mine" is on someone's phone that shows their opening/introduction from "Clockwork Orange " the Beethoven Theme. The Hard Rock performance with Warren is pretty good as well (no John Taylor).
Yes!! Opening on clockwork orange was unreal amazing!!!!
I've always heard you calling
Nick absolutely fabulous. Still is.
Excelente Registro y Sonido De Muy Buena Calidad , El Mejor en La Web.
wow.... thanks for posting! I love this band and love to see them when they were new
Jacqueline Iona Hi went to see them in 1981 just coz they were a new band in town ! I never looked back still a fan in 2017 :):)
