You worked so hard to collect these people and film this video and the result is great!
For the record, Senator Joseph Lieberman grew up in an observant home, and his family attended an Orthodox synagogue in Stamford, CT. There may have been periods in his life where he may not have been fully observant, but today he is unabashedly proud of his Jewish heritage and his commitment to Orthodoxy. I daven with him at our shul in Stamford whenever he is home for Shabbat.
If you paid attention at the end, what I noted was that what I really considered admirable was staying committed to their Jewish heritage even when it wasn't easy. What I mean by "spiritually successful" is that these are people who are attempting to bring spirituality and meaning into their day to day lives despite the fact that they're so professionally successful.
Thank you for the comments from my favorite novelist, Faye Kellerman. I love her work. She addressed our faith with such intelligence and sensitivity.
this is not about "jews promoting themselves" - it's about showing that there are many Orthodox Jews who have all sorts of careers. most people don't know that this is possible. we're simply trying to educate the public that one still has many career choices while observing Jewish law.
Thank you JITC. Kind of brings tears to my eyes that my kids can have role models like Alex Clare, Jamie Geller and Tamir Goodman - to show they don't have to compromise on what our values are to achieve their dreams. Here's to many more installments of OJAS!
I love your videos. I'm firmly, deliberately Roman Catholic, but am curious about many other faiths. I enjoy your creative approach to answering questions accurately. Thanks!
I think there were other Orthodox professional boxers. In "Lieutenant Birnbaum" on page 19 , he writes that his father was an amateur turned professional boxer; and I have heard of others. Great video!
Nicely done!! About time someone made such a video!!!
the first thing to keep in mind is that "Orthodox" can look a lot of different ways. the second thing is that 7 out of the 10 pple in this video were born and raised Orthodox.
love this vid! thanks so much for posting!! btw your sheitel looks awesome!!
Amazing!!!!!
It really shows how much work went into this video!!!!
You cannot be serious? This has nothing to do with being POP. It just happens that some of them are. These people achieved a lot in their careers and that takes a lot of dedication, strength and study in their fields. If you only see this lovely message in simplistic manner you totally missed the point. But again that is why the conversation is open.JITC I cannot wait to see the next one...Great message..that goes way beyond. Keep the great work and team...music video editing directing you name it!
Great video. You put a lot of hard work into this and it shows :)
she has already been in two videos so we decided to feature some other people this time. (but she loved it!)
Yes, anyone can be a Jew. We do not prosthelytize though, so while anyone who's sincere is allowed to convert, we don't try to encourage people to convert. The purpose of these videos and all of Jew in the City is to break down the stereotypes normally associated with Orthodox Jews. The mainstream media always paints us in an extreme, often negative way, so we're trying to show a different side to the world.
maybe for next year's list! there are many more!!
So lovely to know that RBG was true to her roots and always let her lawa clerk Rochelle Shoretz out on time for Shabbat.
Amazing video! Very well done. I used to tutor the son of the creator of Dora the Explorer. If I had known you were doing this video I would have made an introduction. Either way, I am incredibly impressed by your hard work. Keep it up!
Very cool video. Keep up the terrific work!
Excellent point, we can be religious and still follow our dream. We just find a way to do it within Jewish law, like leaving early on Friday afternoon to prepare for Shabbat. And keeping kosher and dressing modestly and so on. We can pursue both our spiritual and physical endeavors
Thank you for another great video!
I hope one day such a video can be done for Hasidic Jews holding professional jobs.
Thank you Jew In The City - Thank you All Stars.
I didn't know Joe Lieberman was Orthodox! I didn't know any of the others were either, but Joe was my senator for years, I should have known.
How many people out there stereotype an entire ethnicity or religion into one profession? I've never met anyone that thought that.
ok. Here is the info that I have maybe you can help me make sense of this...
"Lieberman describes himself as an "observant" Jew.[1] In 1965 he married Betty Haas, a Reform Jew. Since the death in 1967 of Lieberman's grandmother, a deeply religious immigrant, he found renewed interest in religious observance" and "He refers to himself as observant, as opposed to Orthodox, because he doesn't follow the strict Orthodox code and doesn't want to offend the Orthodox"...
I loved the video :) Amazing
can i ask- is mayim frum? i thought she was reform...
There is also Yury Foreman
This is awesome!! I had no idea there were so many professional orthodox jews!! (forgive my ignorance )
What happened to Shyne?
Yes, I`m so proud
I am proud to be Jewish, I love very much !

BRAZIL
Excellent! This was thrilling to watch!
very polished video...and your sheitl is lovely!!
we made this video b/c many people believe that all Orthodox men have to be rabbis and that Orthodox women aren't allowed to work. we want people to know that there are many career options a person can pursue while remaining Jewishly observant.
I really identify with this video. This is exactly what I talk about on my own channel!
there ARE men wearing yarmulkes (Tamir Goodman, the Maccabeats) and men wearing yarmulkes under their hats (Alex Clare, Mendy Pellin). the two who are not - Dmitriy Salita - doesn't wear one while he boxes since it would be dangerous if it slipped off his head and Senator Lieberman doesn't wear one professionally which is an opinion that some Orthodox men follow.
I think it's important for people to see that "Orthodox" does not always look like people might assume it does.
Very good you should be giving out these videos more often to spread the truth
I love it! Such am awesome experience to create music for the best message ever...orthodox Jews can do anything!! Woo hoo!
Great job Allison !
Are you going to trust a Wikipedia article or the words that came out of his mouth? I recommend reading his book "The Gift of Rest." He's an Orthodox Jew!
Also David Draiman from Distured was an Orthodox Jew.
there are many people that assume at all orthodox men are rabbis and that orthodox women aren't allowed to work. for instance, i was interviewed by the Daily Beast a few months ago and the reporter wouldn't believe me when I told her that most Orthodox women work. another example: orthodox author wendy shalit's husband is a computer programmer but newsweek wrote an article a few years ago saying that he was a rabbi - why? b/c he's orthodox they assumed he was.
I absolutely love this video!!!!
i wasn't raised orthodox and i remember how orthodox looked from the non-orthodox vantage point: scary, extreme, backwards, misogynistic - there is widespread misinformation. it's only when i met *real* orthodox people that i saw the stereotypes were largely untrue (there are still bad pple in our community!) JITC's mission is to bring this knowledge - this personal connection to real orthodox jews to the world.
Wonderful
there are elements of the orthodox jewish world where men and women don't go into so many varied professions. HOWEVER, this is not the entire Orthodox Jewish world. and there is a stereotype out there that Orthodox Jews can't/don't have interesting/successful careers. But that's not true. Many of us do. We made the video to publicize that message! :)
whats your point?
Oh that was wonderful :)
Yeah! Congratulations!
Thanks for the response. I have done a bit of research myself and so far I have gotten information that several of these individuals did not grow up orthodox at all. these include:
Alex Clare
Jamie Geller
Faye Kellerman
Dmitriy Salita
Joe Lieberman
That is five people who are Bal Teshuvas at least according to their bios. Are you trying to hide something from your audience by being dishonest??
Joe grew up Orthodox. The four here did not. Six did.
A definite new face to Orthodox Judaism!
three of the All Stars in this video are Hasidic
i always tried to learn about jewish because i really think its the right way.. but every time i ask for guidance i been ignored because i was not born to a Jewish family.. my family are Muslim but i don't believe in it, well my grandmother family long line was jewish. but o well maybe someone can help me out here
Inspiring!
There is no halakhic obligation ordained by Hhazal for men to wear kippah's.
So with all due respect your opinion does not trump the dictates of our Sanhedrin's.
The Hasidim in this video are Chabad, but there are other types of Hasidim excelling in other fields, like Lydia Kess - the first FEMALE partner in the super prestigious law firm Davis Polk. You're correct, though, that these types of Hasidim are generally not excelling in their professions to the extent that Orthodox Jews from other communities are - but no one ever said they were!
Cute video. However why aren't any of the men wearing yamulkas? Being an orthodox jew, myself, i believe that an orthodox man should be wearing a yamulka, especially on this kind of video.
Mayim refers to herself as "aspiring Modern Orthodox." She's growing...
Good Stuff! That's how it should be does. Who says you can't adore and respect your God and still be Human.
U helped me thx keep it up
thanks!! :)
Love it!
Great video.
Hello, i've a question. Can anyone be a Jew? I ask because it seems you're advertising your religion, just like the mormons are doing it.... and the scientologists, etc. Anyone can enter that religions, but i thought not everyone could be a Jew. Could you explain? Thank you.
10 on the KVELL-O-METER! LOVE "da book" and how the guidance teaches the BEST ways to live the best life ! INCREASED & MULTIPLE BLESSINGs b'KOL YISRAEL shel kulanu!
Great!
outstanding kiddush Hashem and funny too !
hmm. some of these individuals dont look orthodox at all. which makes me wonder if this is some sort of set up. what are their backgrounds? were they born into orthodox communities/families or did they become religious after they already had their professions? do they get special permission aka a heter to do what they are doing or are they allowed to do it because they grew up secular and this is an incentive for them to be religious? this is very confusing indeed:(
I sincerely don't get the point, I am sorry. I come from a strictly religious country and family (i am roman catholic) in which a lot of women and men are used do a lot of interesting things and in which a lot of them have also to go out from their small cities in order to affirm themselves in the professional field they want to be part of. No religion has ever denied a woman or a man to study or to be professionally satisfied (every society needs doctors, lawyers, engineers etc).
Cheers
Manlio
so one day!! good luck to her...
Love it!!
i LOVED this so much i facebooked it
Good work #jewinthecity
Where's good friend Mayim Bialik?
sweet
Funny and true :)
It's unfortunate that you perpetuate the notion of equating pop culture cachet with the success of a person or community. Also what in the world is "spiritual success?" did you check up with God to make sure they were tight with the Big Guy?
Wooooooooah.
JEWISH GUYS ARE SO HOT!!
why IsraeliXdude need to object to Jews talking about their religious lives?
Why Jews need to promote themselves?
The jewish religion is the closes to GOD its very interesting
