- THE BEATELS, the internationally acclaimed Beatles tribute band, performing one of the lesser known Beatles tracks, "You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)" live at The Vanguard in Sydney, as part of the Revolver 40th Anniversary Special in 2006. Incidentally, this was the first time that THE BEATELS had ever performed this particular track on stage. You can find out more about THE BEATELS at www.beatels.com!!!

the start of this song sounds so modern.
Didn't think this song was cover-able! Amazing.
Very good rendition of this song by a Beatles tribute band. Very close to the studio.. Well done!
I was wondering if any cover bands attempted this song. Well done!
the beatles were one of the few bands that had the luxury of going into the studio and just goofed around.
If I went and saw a Beatle sound a like group and they did "You Know My Name..." I'd plotz! Fabulous.
I just can say: "bravo". It's a funny song, not easy at all to play and sing everything in the right place. Great job.
Terrific cover! Absolutely fantastic! Great attention to detail! but most of all, it was very fun! Very good!
Thanks :) That was the first time we ever played it too...
FANTASTIC job guys.
This was always one of my favorite Beatle songs.
I'm also on a Beatles band and I'm honored to see such a performance. 5 points
i applaud! not easy to deliver a song only die-hard beatles fans would know.
Love it..its a fun song..how you guys didnt crack up with laughter in the middle of it has got me..cause i was laughing most of the way through..10 out of 10 ..brilliant as usual..
It is an excellent song...
We had this tune done at our wedding by the famous and Fab MI band Shout. I have tried to request this song at other Tribute Band concerts ever since but no one else plays it. Well done! I espcially like that they carry the song through till the end. My six year old daughter is convinced these are the Beatles. Bravo!
Well done lads. You can see they like this song and they know that they're the only band on earth who play this most unknown Beatles song. Chapeau!
Very precise :)
The best comedy Rock song
This is flawless! What a great job, guys!
We love it too :)
Spot on. Brilliant!Never heard anyone cover this one.
Thanks!
Absolutely COOL! You guys have the sound duplicated so close that you could stand in for the Beatles! Uncanny sound-alike! Great Stuff!
ha cool. Listen you guys are great, it takes alot of practise and commitment to be able to do authentic beatles tunes live. great job.
Thanks - that's lovely, Rita!
It's one of our faves too...
Now that was a righteous rendition. I wore this single out on my "Close n Play" record player when I was 7.
It's definitely there...listen again :)
fantastic,,really good ! You recreated it perfect ! 11 out of 10 ! Keep up the good work to the Fab 4
And on that point, here's one for the fans: after close listening, we realized that during that "Good Evening" bit from John, really softly in the background, you can hear Macca saying "Good Evening" (never noticed that before), but as John keeps talking, Macca has to say it a second time *after* John has finished...we'd only thought he said it once (the last one) until we'd done some serious study :)
An eye for detail - & an excellent judge (Leo, that is)
BTW it was Brian Jones of Rolling Stones who played the sax on this song back in 1967.
i like it. im a beatles fan and i tell you ,, you have done a great job with this beatles song, 99.9% alike ,, good for you.. gretting from Peru.
This is actually a difficult song to do well, because they have to try to incorporate all of those sounds that could only have been impromptu when the Beatles did it, without sounding pedantic or overdone. This band did a very good job!
This is also one of my favorite Beatles songs. I can't believe you recreated all of those sounds. It's GREAT! Come play in Massachusetts. :> Preferably ... Jan 3rd! Come on, you know you want to. Or, ya know, Rhode Island, CT... I need to see you live!!!
I'm afraid we don't know of every tribute band around, but thanks for letting us know & thanks for the comment :)
Hey thanks beatlesque2! What a great little song, eh? The Beatles recorded this song over a number of years...The version we picked was the standard album version. The Anthology version is quite different - it has an additional section!
When you've been impersonating The Beatles for nearly twice as long as their actual recording career, you enjoy doing songs like this even more! We've got more videos at www.beatels.com, and we'll be adding more over time!
You capture the campy, yet affectionately intended parody of the English music halls of the 40's and 50's that the Beatles were doing with this "number"
Cheers and thanks
I can say only one thing, ¡EXCELENT!
I send you a very big hug from méxico city.
¡CONGRATULATIONS!!!
I Agree with that!!, beatles never pass away!!!
Thanks rdsieben :)
woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow very good cover!!!!
I send you a great hug from mexico
I agree. They did this tune really well. I'm surprised that it looks like just about every Beatle tune is covered here on RUclips. I can't seem to pull away from my PC.
"WELCOME TO SLAGGERS"
Love it!! Great!! Moooooore!!!!!!!!!!
You are very very very very good! :) Congradulations!
Inspired. I can't believe how fucking good these guys are.
5 stars
This was so well done. I hadn't heard this one before you played it that night, but I heard it after that and found out how well you did it :)
Why, thank you donelectroman70!...we did it for those like you who can spot the difference :)
The beatels haha! great tribute! and great vid too. Congratulations. I've been hearing part of this song in a Disco Ruido! remix called Mrs Love.
RAOFF - LMGDFFAO!!! You guys are soooo awesome!!!!
great cover,
I'm planning on covering the full 6.11 version of it. Great song, one of my favorites and its Paul McCartneys favorites too.
A backing track that we play along with...Our "Paul" (Steve, on the left) played the keys on that one...and the "sax"
Contrary to popular myth, the "Brian Jones" credited with playing saxophone on "You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)" is NOT the Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones. He was the saxophonist for the Undertakers, a band featuring Apple Records artist Jackie Lomax. He became a session musician in the late 60s and 70s. Paul McCartney also used him in the 1970s, particularly for Mike McCartney's "McGear" album. This myth has been perpetuated in even the best Beatles reference books, and by Paul himself
wow,
really good! it sound almost exact :o
Thanks alleyk...We'll see about the Vanguard show :)
Great Job on my fav Beatles Toon
Nice Performance. It is interesting to note that the real group briefly(in 1960-61) spelled their name "Beatals", so it's pretty cool for this tribute band to choose the very similar "Beatels"
Smartly done, lads.
Wow that's great.
@HeiHolaHello, only been doing Beatles live every week for 22 years now...so we know a little bit about them...Lennon edited "You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)", reducing the length from 6:08 to 4:19, a more suitable length for a single...I think you saw the Anthology version (which is a different mix - and it's stereo)...
Great One
great track...nice harmonies ...
My Bad ! I must be on drugs not to have heard that. Cant wait to see you guys when your next in Queensland. Thanks Lads... Rodney*
Paul aka Steven Shipley, did the entire backing track (piano, sax, etc)...clever lad :)
Does anyone know if they made another song out of the beat at the very beginning of the song? If not, they should... it's so good!!
An eye for detail...very good :) Space was a bit limited on that stage for Mal...
As soon as a Swedish promoter books us to do some shows over there!
This is great. Who knew someone covered this?
Nyet!
Hi @beatlesfan464,
errr....that is the full version (at least in terms of the finished released recording - they did record various takes of the song & stuck them together to form this, the final released version)
excellent!
WOW
Probably cause people are sitting at home watching us on youTube & not going out to watch live music anymore :)
Steve, our Paul, who made the backing track for that number, had to channel Brian through his fingers, via the semi-spiritual magic of a keyboard that came equipped with a card of sax (& assorted brass instrument) sound samples. A few prescription drugs, a quick dip in the pool, et voila - there it was! Hope that helps solve the argument, genericgeorge...
Really nice cover job of a rare Beatle comedy song!
Dennis OBell, ladies and gentlemen :D
Nice cover guys!
Cool version !
Very Coool, I didnt hear the "welcome to Slaggers" though, keep rocking
Great cover. Not an easy song to pull off.
cool I love this song ja
wow they are good! love this silly song

my god!! thats GREAT!! good job!.. im from argentina .. i think if you like the beatles you must know the best beatle band called The Beats.. i saw them a couple of times...they are incredible and they are argentinians.. just to let you know.. =) from me to you
Bit of fun that one.
I think so :)
Thanks ljncolour...by the way, you spell "colour" properly - love your work! :)
great song (Y)
@thebeatels actually the full version is 6 minutes =) just search for it on youtube.
Thanks for being Frank
I see that Rick bass has the special "piano emulation pickup" installed.
Love Leo McKern's drumming, BTW.
Cheers.
Yes it was, I was saying the Spade in the Gravel part was originally done by Mal Evans, not John Lennon, and no I doubt Mal sung any low voice parts in the original version.
hey good cover
niceeeeeeeeee
It could be said that most music that has followed The Beatles is a tribute to The Beatles! We *do* try to replicate what they did & the way they did it, & in our opinion, if you're going to do that, then do it properly or don't bother. That said, we don't mind hearing other people do their own versions, so long as they do the music justice :) Fiona Apple's version of Across The Universe is a case in point...(though probably not Oasis's I Am The Walrus...LOL!)
Great job, the Beatels! You should have done the full version but after seeing this, I subscribed!
Are you alluding to a song by The Rutles?
Hi @mralan1969uk...errr, really wrong...we are clapping on this number because, well, that's what's on the record - have a listen. :) And as for The Beatles never clapping, one of the major instruments in I Wanna Hold Your Hand is the handclapping...there are many other examples in Beatles recordings as well...
Ta for that...haven't seen Rain, but we'll keep our eyes out...
@dirtydog1965 Steve (Paul) did the backtrack on this one. Fine job as well.
u guys r up there with rain to me anyways...if u guys know who rain is do you?
